    I appreciate Paul's honesty. He's very honest about all of insecurities, he puts the man beyond the paint on full display. Gene's book on the other hand is the opposite from what I read. I think he mentions wiping out half the vietcong by blowing a fire ball at them, but I could be mistaken.

    Stanley's memory needs a recheck. Vietnam wasn't in "full swing" in 1970; the Marines were already gone and there were only two fights with ground forces which were left; Cambodia and Ripcord. By the time he was trained, he'd have missed both which were finished by mid-summer. But, he wasn't even eligible for the draft since the lottery had been implemented --- no one was eligible but for the single year he turned 19. Stanley would have been 17 or 18 when he graduated, meaning he wasn't even eligible until 1971-72. By then, with virtually no ground forces left in country, the USAF had picked up the tab, and the Air Force never used draftees

      How could he or anyone know at the time?

    • @KB4QAA
      @KB4QAA 2 года назад +1

      MNPD3: While there may have been some reduction in overall fighting and total forces, that is not what he public perceived and there is no way Stanley could "know" that he would be 'safe". In fact public furor over Vietnam reached a peak in 1971.

      My Dad did too he Joined the Navy and spent Vietnam serving his way.

    • @davidtingley9978
      @davidtingley9978 3 года назад

      There's always a way to game the system. Lots of people volunteered for branches based on the odds of not being sent to Nam, or what they'd likely be doing over there.
      I have a friend who's dad volunteered for the AF (went anyway and survived getting his plane shot down) just ahead of getting drafted by the army. The MP's came looking for him---im AIR FORCE BOOT CAMP.

    • @wvu05
      @wvu05 Год назад

      My dad had the same logic. He sent letters to all four branches, and while he really wanted to be a Navy machinist, the Air Force was the only one to write back, so that's where he signed and he ended up nowhere near Vietnam. My uncle, his older brother, wanted to be aMarine, but never heard back from them, and he got drafted by the Army. There were certain places where it was expected that you do something, and in many places in rural America, the idea of college was pretty foreign to most, even with the GI Bill fir the prior generation.

    To all who shame Paul, it serves no purpose if your a KISS fan to mock, mimic, or denounce him. He and four others members set into motion all the memories which we now have in our lives. Yes, I believe now he has changed and also I did not know him personally but only as a fan. I too think he's very condescending and now after the $$$.But it's his life and not ours. He has traveled many different roads than we have and experienced many others as well. Paul is a musician first and foremost, he never said that he was either this or that or something else. Regarding his ear, grow the fuck up if it restricted him from Vietnam so be it. He was not physically fit to serve for his and the other troops protection. So get over that point. Paul rock on, but do not forget where you came from those humble beginnings and don't be so condescending with remarks regarding old band mates. It sucks listening over the same dialogue in the stories.Good luck, but I wish KISS would play older stuff at the concerts. By the way, Eric Singer is not that great of a singer and needs to try harder vice not trying his best.Wayne

      Parents can be just as dysfunctional and stupid as any band member. If you've really read or heard what Paul has said in his book he went to consult a psychiatrist to find out if there was something wrong with him. I get where he's coming from because my parents were similar to his. I kept getting these shit guitars (no amp either) because they thought I was "making noise". It wasn't til my father actually heard me playing in a band that he *finally* realized that I can play! Then he went bragging about it to all his drinking buddies and acquaintances. I started playing in 1970 with a acoustic finger bleeder and I finally got a '76 Gibson SG in like 1983 with my own money!

      Kjs Saxton - I wish Paul had been in my band - he's a f'ing leader and will succeed no matter what. I salute him getting to point Z and superstardom. I also genuinely hope he is at peace now. I, am a drummer. Any band that gets lucky enough to have Paul, Gene, or guys with determination like those two, should be so lucky. It takes work work work to realize the Limelight.

    Comparing this book to Ace's No Regrets, it strikes me how egocentric this book is compared to Ace's. Every sentence starts with "I". Ace is a lot more humble and gives a lot of credit to people who helped them.

BUT, I'm smart enough to not listen to any of it and not listen to anything any of them have to say. I just don't care. I listen to things I'm interested in and care about and enjoy. I don't hover around things I don't like and screw it up for people who DO like it.
