If you're not from Atlanta, here's the difference between the Suburbs and the City. The suburbs have better public schools, that's all. That's literally all. In Atlanta the choice between city/burb isn't like the choice in cities like Chicago or NYC. In America's older cities you often need to move away to the burbs if you want nature, a house, yard, etc. But if you live in the city, or ITP (inside the perimeter of I-285) you'll have better commutes, prettier neighborhoods (if you can afford it of course) more natural beauty, denser forestry, more hills, better hiking, the river is actually prettier ITP than OTP, and ironically, you'll be able to get to fun destinations outside the perimeter as easily as those in the burbs and sometimes faster. For example I can get to parts of Lake Lanier to the east, or Woodstock GA to the west faster than people in Alpharetta. And I can get to blue ridge GA at least as fast and be in the mountains/wineries in about the same amount of time as those in the burbs. Why? Because all of the major interstates and HW 400 converge in the city. If you're in the burbs it can take you twice as long to travel less distance than me because you have to take back roads the entire way, or at least until you can get to an interstate. And your commutes to work ITP will be 45 to 1.5r long each way. Especially on the way home which is always worse. Schools are very important so I'm not undervaluing that. I'm simply saying of all the attributes you could list, ATL ITP scores higher in all the ones I can think of except public schools. But my kid is in APS and she's fine and will get into a fine college. So, having the worst of everything else for a marginally better school is NOT worth it. And I've asked her if she'd like to move to Alpharetta and that's a hard pass from her. It's really the best of both worlds. I call it Ciburby. City/Suburban. So if you're looking to move here. Don't think you need to move to the suburbs to have a suburban life. You can have that in the city along with better commutes and be close to everything. And, more people are actually moving to the burbs than the city. Only like 5K people moved ITP in a recent survey whereas way more moved to the burbs. So come on in, we ain't full haha. Oh, and houses are expensive in the burbs too. Not sure if you're getting that much bang for your buck to give up all the other benefits of being closer.
Yes. Decatur is close to downtown Atlanta. This video is highlighting the top 6 suburbs in Atlanta. All of these are actually about a 30 minute drive into downtown - unless there is traffic, for sure!
Right and in a comment I just posted, you don't get anything better in the burbs than you get ITP. It's not like NYC where you go, ok, we're married and want kids so I guess if we want a house and yard, we gotta move away and become commuters. Even the neighborhoods are better ITP. They literally create a beautiful canopy over my house that never gets old (leaves are an onslaught in the fall but it's beautiful too!) and I'm right off the interstate and 4 miles from midtown. Takes me 5-20 minutes to get almost anywhere ITP.

NO, you should not lump North Decatur with Decatur because they are not the same school systems. Decatur is City of Decatur Schools. It's a small school system located as the seat of Dekalb. Marta train runs through Decatur. They have built a lot of condos which are ridiculous in the city. It use to be known as the small city. Decatur and North Decatur aren't that far from Atlanta like Alpharetta and Johns Creek really are. North Decatur is a part of Dekalb County Schools which is not the same school system as Decatur.

No, one will rent to you when your unemployed and collecting unemployment. Finally was able to move back to parents home 2014. They are deceased. I’m tired of getting phone calls and text messages from people wanting to buy the property.
@@brucet2756 which gives you a choice at least, but the traffic is still horrible. Worst traffic I've ever driven in was in NYC. Atlanta has heavy rail and buses. They're not great because we don't have the density for a lot of train stations.
Do you understand what suburbs are? City of Atlanta actually have suburbs and it’s not Alpharetta or Johns Creek. The area that I live in is considered the actual suburbs of Atlanta. I’m 2 miles from Grant Park. I’m at the City and county line.

Everyone has their preferences, but these were based on ratings for safety, school, diversity, good for families, and housing. It really just depends on what your values are to determine your own top suburbs! That's what you and I do everyday with clients. It depends on what is going to be the best place for THEM😉
Alpharetta is not a hop skip and jump from Atlanta. You need to be mentioning how far people will be driving. Houses are selling over $500,00 or higher.

We have lots of other videos that mention how bad the traffic can be along with that commute. If people can drive into town during the off hours, it isn't so bad though. Do you live in town?
Oh! And yes, house prices have gone up a ton in Alpharetta! Median home price includes condos and townhomes. But, you can still buy a house under 500k, surprisingly. They just aren't as nice as they used to be at that price. We are about to shoot a video on how much house you can get in each of the top suburbs. Be on the lookout!

As someone who lives in the area, she's dead on about most of the cities. I would say unless you like the urban scene, avoid Decatur.
if you want a decently priced place without major traffic congestion move south of the city. You won't have to be more than 20-30 miles away.

I lived in the City of Decatur and was forced out after 28 years. My landlord sold the property.

my brother moved there over 20 yrs. ago, it was small then, now it's grown so much and got very expensive
