Interesting story, thank you for sharing. I'm a bit lost as to how they got to the 72K when the people from KIA have been quoting lower numbers all along ?
Insurance wanted to write vehicle off rather than repairing it. A lot of insurance adjusters seem to be anti EV and don't want to have anything to do with repairing EVs it seems. Better to lease EV than finance at this point. Manufacturers need to also reduce battery prices as stories like this will put off potential EV buyers and even current owners may switch back to ICE. There seems to be a major pushback from dealers and insurance companies in North America against EV adoption.
Thanks for sharing the story very interesting. Did sound like a nightmare, glad it worked out in the end and you're getting a replacement car rather quick.
I think it’s scary that the insurance company wouldn’t initially speak with Kia Canada to work this out. I agree with the idea that insurance companies need to establish a pathway to repair EVs. They are going to be the dominant vehicle so repairs need to happen.
Which insurance company did the "guest" deal with? My insurance (TD) didn't let me get an EV while my EV6 was in the shop for repairs. They did pay for the gas that I used, at least.
I can't speak for Guest but my car is in the shop for repairs after being rear ended and I have a Tesla rental. They wanted me to get whatever the rental company had but I refused to accept and found a EV rental company myself and had them get in touch with my adjuster and they agreed to the insurance daily rate.
Thinking of the possible outcomes if it had been an oil pan that got punctured , leaked out, and ruined a new car's engine. Maybe waiting months for a new engine to come from Korea? Not an easy situation either.
On the parts issue, the guest made the right choice. I punctured a tire on my EV6 in September 2023 and I still don't have the replacement. I had a non-EV tire put on when the incident happened at a Costco, but the dealership has been unable to provide the proper replacement tire. The Service manager has the damaged tire sitting behind his desk to remind him to call every couple of weeks. They still haven't sent him one.
Unless the specific tire they're looking for has been discontinued, I don't see any reason they can't find you a tire. I'm guessing you Googled the tire yourself to check it was available anywhere?
The voice of the Guest is super familiar but who I’m thinking of is a big Tesla person so it probably isn’t him. I know of several horrible stories that are similar with the IONIC 5 and this one sounds more of an issue with the insurance company than KIA. I have a EV6 and the story is unfortunate.
My concern was the fact the owner didn't check with dealership as soon as the battery coolant light activated, and let it go for several days before addressing the issues with the dealership. This whole situation was a disaster. From the owner through the insurance company, what a mess LOL The driver who caused this damage? Wow Sadly I cringed the whole time watching this video TBH
I think after watching the owner only drive a couple of days. Lilley being new to the whole EV owner ship (I’m guilty of this myself) he maybe didn’t know what to do? Just an assumption.
Further enforces my belief of not allowing anyone else to drive my vehicles nor driving other peoples vehicles as there are too many other bad drives on the road that can cause issues. Keep up the great work on your videos.
Hi Murad, I've been away for a few months, but will get caught up with you again. On this story...did this incident end up costing the guest any money? He had a $500.00 deductable, but will his insurance go up substantially as well? My Mom had a car written off about 6-7 years ago but because she had "accident forgiveness" her insurance didn't go up.
Hi Gail Yes, I know you were away. Mexico right? How was your trip? No, given what Guest had to go through, the insurance company decided not to increase his premium.
The Tesla is a rental because my Kia EV6 is finally in the shop for repairs after the accident.
Interesting story, thank you for sharing.

Greedy insurance companies.

Absolutely. Especially when you have expensive cars like yours 🤑
Thank you. I'm glad you like them 😊

This is the exact situation that scares the shit out of potential EV customers like myself.
I don't blame you
