When I saw them in 2018 they whipped this thing out for the first time in like 5 years because a fan had requested it to Ruban over insta the night before. I'd never heard it before and now im obsessed. UMO are amazing, and I'm glad they got me to go back and listen to some more Can
No the dislikes are from people who know how special the drum roll in the original version and needs to be heard with it. It’s what makes it so special and unique
This cover was fucking phenomenal! To say that it was anything less than phenomenal, is insane! Go back and listen to it again. Only this time listen to it through headphones, earbuds, or every speaker in your house, like I did. If you don't experience goosebumps several times throughout the song, you lose. You're doing it wrong!
Listening for the 1st time now through a quality pear of headphones. I was looking for a live performance of the original by can. Halfway in. No goosebumps yet.
Hey, is anyone able to identify the pedals he used here with his Mustang? They can be seen in 9:18 for example. Or do you guys know how to get such a cool noisy sustain out of a single coil? Update: alright imo they are (left oto right): Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone, Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano, Fulltone OF-2 Octafuzz and Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner. Don't quote me on that tho.
this song deserves every bit of adulation it receives and then some. I am missing the original bass and drum groove here, but i still appreciate the effort. Loved UMO since i heard 'boy witch'
Very nice cover. One thing: what always fascinates me on the CAN original is the almost superhuman bassdrum triplets, maintained so perfectly thoughout the song. Thise are what makes that recording so special. Jaki Liebezeit was a unique virtuoso. Nevertheless, these guys prove that without them it’s still a great song.
You know it! Jaki was one of a kind. I watched a 1970 exposition Can gave on West German TV. Jaki set the tone for hours, all the audience members were stunned, and Damo freaked out all over the stage with his newfound shaman vibe, or whatever. Epic, confusing, baffling, revolutionary. Incredible.
I say that the first drum machine was a human being after hearing Vitamin C, dude was on a different page than all of the other drummers of the time. 👌
Great cover! They gave it their own spin while retaining the spirit of the original. To argue whether UMO is a better / worse band than Can is almost a moot point (Can being one of the greatest musical outifts ever, really) - this was a great version of a classic.
How dare they cover this classic of Kraut Rock band Can! Who do they think they are?? They should.....er....wait a minute......its utterly brilliant......fuck.......
Nah you dont understand, by standing in one spot and nodding your head to the beat and with the VERY OCCASIONAL shifting of your weight position on your feet (to the beat of course) shows you have a very deep understanding and connection that goes over the head of people like you who want to have FUN at a gig
Not every Cover of a song has to be a perfect imitation of the original. Different takes on the same song are much more interesting. But that's just my opinion.
I don’t want to hear an exact imitation of a song when it’s covered - I want to hear it turned into something different or completely destroyed. My problem with this cover version is that the drummer fails to capture the uniqueness and pulse of the original drumming by Jaki Liebezeit. The guitar player is good though.
One thing is a cover and another is a version: a cover does it exactly as the original, is a more or less successful copy; a version is the way you play a song, more or less different than the original. This one is a version but a pure gem itself. Well done boys!!!!

Trying to cover any Can song takes great virtuosity and courage, a bit like trying to cover a Velvet Underground song. I must research and see of anyone has covered Hallelujah from Tago Mago? It's still my favourite ever Can track , and believe me there are many that I love.
To even dare to do this is takes some balls. Of course, the Jaki Liebezeit groove cannot be reproduced. There is no use trying to just sound exactly the same (that's also not the purpose of doing a cover, in my opinion). But, seriously, if you cover this song, this is a damn good way of doing it!!! Must have been very enjoyable for the audience!
