For me it was the incessant begging or tipping. Started on the Tour Bus. Our guide introduced herself and said that her minimum tip was $5 per person per day and the same for the driver. Then at each place of interest we were joined by another Guide who stated his minimum tip! And these were often much more expensive. So why were we paying tips for two guides? There were around 40 people on our bus, so these extra guides charging $25 were making $1000 per bus with time to do two or three per day. Then we would go for a meal and expected to pay tips. We were told to carry lots of $1 bills because the barman expected a tip for each drink! I volunteer as a Tour Guide in York with the Association of Voluntary Guides. We don’t take tips, because we are not beggars and have some self pride. We are mostly retired people who do this to help our city and look after its visitors. For me visiting the US is like visiting the third world, you are surrounded by beggars as soon as you get off the plane.

    About Americans' loudness:
In my first job in the incentive travel in London, we "corralled" a group of middle-aged American tourists. We had pre-booked hotel rooms for them in a fairly up-market hotel. The group wasn't very large, all were very "proper" except for "the" odd-one out who was wearing a Stetson from morning till night.
When they arrived at the hotel, they had to get their keys from the reception desk. As they were couples, they were handed keys to double and twin rooms.
A few minutes after they'd all gone to their rooms, Mr Stetson was storming back down and, from the elevator door, bellowed to the Receptionist, and for all in the hotel lobby to hear "Maam', I ain't slept with my wife for 25 years, and I ain't gonna start now" ... as he'd been allocated a double-bed room ...

Oh, Conner! Is someone going to explain to him that in 1776 you chose whose side you were on but Canada, in 1781, became a colony of Britain. So much so that in 1815, after years of Murica trying subjugate Canada, you got biffed on the nose and a few bonfires were lit up the Potomac River and buildings were set alight!
So I am pretty sure that with the Queens Head on the Notes and Coinage of Canada, they are closer to Europe than to Murica, not forgetting the French speaking provinces, Quebec, Yukon ans Newbrunswick!
So, calm down and breathe, you will soon realise that neither Mexico, nor Canada, want to become the 51st State!

We went to see but no, there was just an American tourist in there speaking excitedly to her companion at 5 times the volume of everyone else 😅 everyone was looking at her like WTF and she was oblivious.

I rented a car in Los Angeles and drove around for hours. Ended up in Beverly Hills and stopped on the side of the street to take a walk and look at the houses.
I would never have done that. Two guards with their hands on their holsters rushed up and asked what I was doing there.

"Whenever I try to remember three things I end up remembering nothing". I feel you Jib (ADD here). I'm in the living room and I have to get something from the kitchen, get the mail and turn off the AC. I get to the kitchen and wonder what I was supposed to do there. When nothing comes to mind I go back into the living room. That's when I suddenly remember what I went to the kitchen to do. I obviously forgot about the other two things I was supposed to do and only remembered them later. Very annoying. I've gotten the milk from the fridge and walked into the bathroom and just stood there with the milk carton in my hand.

    • @brigidsingleton1596

I don't have ADD but have been doing stuff like that all my life. One example, during the 1970's I worked with horses and was grooming a big hunter name Duke, he staled* as I groomed him so I went out of his stable to fetch a broom to sweep it out...and walked into the office next door!! I stood there for about 30 seconds wondering what I had gone in there for, turned back and went into Duke's stable and saw the reason - I needed a broom so went back out to where the yard tools were, picked up a broom and swept Duke's stable floor clean! (* stale is what horsey people call horse urine!) No need to go into the office at all and yet I did... I was around twenty tears old at the time and felt rather silly at my actions, but that was just one of many such "silly" things I've done in my life. I am 71 now, so hopefully will make fewer "silly" mistakes (but cannot promise I won't!!)😊🐴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🐴♥️🐴🇬🇧🐴🤔🐴🖖

Connor, I thought you meant the tv skit with the crossword puzzle ("The Two Ronnies") where at the end of the skit the Nun asked for a rubber to erase a mistake she had made on the same crossword puzzle in her newspaper...
"What lies at the bottom of a budgie's cage, four letters, ending in 'i t' ... _Grit_ - oh, has anyone got a rubber?!" It was meant to be seen as innuendo, and the thought of a _Nun_ needing a 'rubber' - other than as sn eraser - was amusing!!
...by the way, a budgie is the shortened form of the Australian wild bird called a _Budgerigar_ I think it's an Australian Aboriginal word, like 'Kookaburra' and 'Kangaroo' etc...
People used to (and may still do?!) keep them as pets in portable cages on a stand in British homes...
My late Mum used to breed and keep budgies, and finches (and other birds) back in the days when keeping finches as pets was allowed.
I think perhaps they (and others) are not allowed to be kept in cages anymore.

9:43 "If I was in Europe..." it just depends on the country, in southern Europe people are more social and definitely talk to strangers/say hi on the elevator. Not as social as US citizens, but not cold lke scandinavian countries whatsoever.
Also, an hour commute in the morning is very normal for people that live in the outskirts of big cities like Madrid/Barcelona and have to take public transport. Even with car would be like 30 minutes at least most of the times.

    • @dfuher968
      @dfuher968 17 дней назад +1

As a Scandinavian Im tired of being called "cold". We're not cold. We respect each others space. U can say hello, but if we're not in a mood to talk, take the hint. Otherwise u just feel very pushy and disrespectful. We're very direct, we dont do "how do u do" as small talk, if u ask us a question, we assume, u really want the answer. And so what Americans call small talk can very quickly become very personal and intrusive to us, asking questions about things, we only share with close family and close friends.
If u stop us on the street and ask for help, we will gladly give it. But dont expect us to be ur new best friend. We very often have our social circle. And while we will stop, even if busy, to help u out, we dont have the time or inclination to entertain some random stranger, when we have kids to pick up, grocery shopping to do etc.
We're actually very laid back and accepting. If u feel, we're cold, its often a reaction to ur behavior, that we feel to be intrusive and disrespectful.

@@dfuher968 It wasn't an attack, I have a lot of scandinavian friends, when they come to Spain to visit they are the ones saying that we in souther europe are a lot "warmer" than them. I think what you are saying it's Europe in general, in Spain we are also very direct, but one issue of northern countries that it's a fact is how isolating your societies are in comparison with others.
Also, I could say the same, as a Spaniard I'm tired of people calling me warm. So what, we are talking stereotypes, generalizing a country is easier than a continent, that was my point.

  • @dfuher968
    @dfuher968 17 дней назад +3

Theres so much, I could add to in this video, but heres just a couple of things.
The flags. U say, yes, we do love our patriotism. Thats whats so American about it. That u have linked ur love for ur country to a flag, and not worshipping ur flag and displaying it constantly is considered unpatriotic and bordering on treason. We love our countries, just as much as u love ur country. We just dont feel the need to brag about it constantly. Or to equate our country with a piece of cloth, our love is much deeper than that.
Ur rants about Canadians. One was a person saying, they used to live in Canada, nothing about being Canadian. The other was a Canadian answering a European, trying to explain, why US servers steal our credit cards, which is, how we view it, if u take it out of our sight. Its a security thing.
The various comments about food. Its almost impossible to get US foods in the EU. Coz u guys pump it so full of pesticides, hormones, chemicals and other toxic additives and loads and loads and loads of sugar, which makes it unfit for human consumption. And for animal consumption for that matter. The US brands, u find in Europe, have been produced in Europe with changed recipes to make them comply with food and health regulations (not just food/drink items). Also, how Walmart is able to sell all that "food" without it going bad. Its so filled with preservatives, it basically cant go bad, it'll just poison u instead.
And finally, as a Dane I have to stand up for my fellow countrymen and our Scandinavian sisters and brothers, since we all get stamped with being "cold", even by some Europeans. Its simply a misunderstand of our culture. We respect each others personal space. If u say hi to us, we will politely reply, but if we want any further conversation, we will indicate it. We prefer fewer and deeper relationships, we dont stop, whatever we're busy with to entertain some random stranger wanting to talk. If u ask us for help, we will gladly give it, even if we're actually busy, but dont expect us to be ur new best friend, just coz u introduced urself. We're very direct ppl, we dont really do small talk except perhaps a few exchanges about the weather.
If u ask a question, we assume, u want an answer, so "how do u do" isnt a greeting, its a question to us, and so American platitudes, that are used for small talk in the US, can very quickly go into very personal territory for us about things, we only share with close family and close friends. If u ask us, if that shirt, u see in the window, would look good on, we're not going to give u polite reassurance, we're going to u, that it would look horrible on u, some more politely than others but none the less. And we dont really talk about our jobs and definitely not about money, talking about how much money u make is considering bragging, and we do NOT like ppl, who brag. We talk about our families and leisure pursuits and personal interests.
But we're mostly very laid back and accepting. If we seem cold and offputting to u, thats usually a reaction to ur behavior, that we feel is intrusive and disrespectful. The biggest problem with US tourists in not just Denmark, but in Europe in generel, is, that almost none of them do any preparation about the countries and cultures, theyre going to visit, they just expect, that everything is like in the US, and that they can behave like in the US. And not just in public places. Like, getting invited to some1s home in Denmark is a really big thing, its very personal, u have to respect our home, starting with taking off ur shoes, some Danes dont do this, but in most of the country its really disrespectful to wander into some1s home with ur outdoor shoes on. Those little details matter. Instead there are often tourists, who react like that American replying to a comment about ppl not saying hi to him in the elevator, not understanding, that the locals arent ignoring him, theyre respecting his personal space.

We know more about the US not because where are smarter or whatever, its beacuse of all the american culture that is fed to us since forever. Also Euroepans has the means to travel more. But ask a european a random question about a southamerican country or so e random afrikan country and they will be as cluless as any american!

It's not that Canada seems European, it's that the USA is stuck in the 80s. Instead of saying "we're from xxx country." We should say "hi, we're from the future."

The amount of stuff in Walmart confused me. For example, Eggs, It's like Walmart is expecting a small country to come in at any moment looking to buy as many eggs as possible.
In Australia, when the shelves are running low on stock, they refill them as needed, maybe once or twice a day, in Walmart I think they fill them once a week with as much as humanly possible, so unless there actually is a small country coming to do their shopping, they're good to go.

Sorry buddy. Canada is more European than you think. Most of us are immigrants from Europe and Asia. We are a melting pot of our various heritages which we are proudly encouraged to live and be proud of. We have learned to live in peace with our differences and respect each other's cultures. That's the difference. It's not what land mass you live on, it's what's in your heart.

Regarding rating people based on their politics - I have to disagree. In many cases (particularly in divided times like recent years where extremes get into positions of power, people who literally idolize & emulate authoritarian dictators), a person's politics can directly reveal their prejudices and bigotry, and therefore their core values.

Every time I hear about TSA not knowing basic things about other countries, I always think that they HAVE to be new to the job. How can your job be interacting with people from all over the world, regularly asking questions of people from other countries, and being trained to do so, and you don’t become aware of common differences between countries? Is the TSA training that bad? 😆
(…don’t bother replying with cringe like “🤤bEcAuSe aMeRiCaNs aRe DuMb...”
