The federal government needs to set up programs that remain because this is an America problem not a Missouri or Kansas City problem. We had slavery for about 250 years and affirmative action for 30 cannot solve it. Honor Dr. Martin Luther King by reclaiming the area burned and abandoned in the riot and reclaim it. Let it be the Martin Luther King district and Benton Blvd would be a much better choice to rename the street. The area around Linwood to 31st, Indiana to Troost could be the MLK district. Monument to the riot, those who died and those who remain. Set up centers for the education of youth, pre-k, seniors, veterans,, ex-cons. The technical and vocational retraining for displaced workers, young and old adults, tutoring, language training, union apprenticeships, IT certification programs and housing redevelopment. Get private partners, VA, and YMCA. This would be for a social and cultural center set for retraining, revitalization for all the citizens. SCLC wants a street, how about a district in honor of eliminating the damage of the riots and showing how it can be done if we have the will. Private partners, trade unions, and civic organizations - Cerner, Cisco, Google, UMKC, Truman, VA, JC Nichols, ... Vote Kansas City Vote for change.
