- In this video I put our Epoch Batteries to the test and see if they can get us through a full 24 hours off grid.. Epoch sent me these batteries to install and use. Find out how they do in this day in the life test with only 320 watts of solar on the RV.

Good info on your setup. We've been able to stay 1 night at harvest hosts on 200ah of batteries running a residential fridge and be able to take a shower and run a couple lights. Would love to add another 100ah and charge them with truck alternator while traveling to next location. Always have to be cognizant of electrical use with a small battery bank.
Good job testing the system before heading out into the boon docking field. I also tested my system a few days to make sure the system is on point. I would try to add more than 1 solar panel to your system. We would like to charge the battery as fast as possible when the sun is at its prime, also we would to get most out them when its a grey day. Thanks again Sean from montreal
I love the detail you go into when you do your videos. Well done.
I was old school, too, which Patrick advised me to stay, but when my AGM batteries died, I took the leap into lithium. I only need the least amount of lithium, for the way I camp!
Yes, everyone camps different.
I camp old school.
160 watts of solar, 2 6 volt lead acid batteries.
No inverter.
4 days boondocking & no issues with batteries.
I do have a 2500 watt generator as backup.
All depends on how you camp.
I'd trust the state-of-charge value on the Victron shunt more than the Epoch bluetooth SOC indication. If those batts are anything like the Epoch marine 12v/460ah (B12460A) batts, the internal battery shunt doesn't register small current flows at all and seems to not be as accurate as the Victron shunts in general.
Great informative video. I’m a fan of real life test like this one. The Epoch batteries are great batteries.
Yup thats the way things should be. I'm waiting to see if Epoch will be running a Black Friday deal and we plan to pick up 2 460ah batteries. We have 1300 watts of solar so on decent sun days we should top off each day.
Thanks
Thank you, Patrick! I may not need all the Lithium that you do, but I love learning everything possible, just incase I change my way of camping and need more lithium. Another thing… once again, RUclips isn’t sending me notifications on your videos. It’s so frustrating, because if I hadn’t search for your channel, I would have missed your last videos on lithium and maybe other videos. You’re not the only channel I don’t receive “all” notifications like I’m signed up to receive. It’s so frustrating. They don’t miss sending me other channels I didn’t sign up for, though! 😡
Good test of how running everything you normally would run in your sticks and bricks home would work without electricity. I don't think it would work for a real boondocking trip, but there are plenty of ways to conserve for those trips (and I'm sure you know them all!).
Generally, the rule of thumb is 2W of solar for every 1Ah of battery, so with 600 Ahs of battery you should shoot for 1200W of solar...especially since, even at high Noon in the midst of summer you NEVER generate the full Watt rating of your solar panels.
Great batteries
Hey Patrick how can me and my wife who by the way have similar stories. My wife was a teacher for 42 years and just retired and im also retired and we are in our mid 60s in good health and active. We have E - bikes and love camping. Where can we meet people like you and Patty to go on camping adventures with… any ideas?
Great video Patrick! Ive been eyeing the 29rl as my retirement rig as well. However, I'm now seeing the OTG solar package on the All Access line having just a 200w panel and a 15amp solar controller, along with prep for only a 300w inverter! Yes, that's 300, not 3000. Sounds to me like they've cheaped out on the solar wiring for the All Access units. Given my solar requirements are similar to yours, would you recommend a new 29rl? Or should I be looking at the beefier 32rls full Avenue?
Oh, and FYI, the Super Solar Plus package is not available on the All Access units.
My 5er has 300AH and can run for 3-5 days depending on furnace hours.
On that first consumption reading at 3:56, you were’t consuming 1500watts, you where consuming1900 watts, look at your battery consumption not your AC load. AC loads don’t read accurately on Cerbo GX for one and also the AC load doesn’t account for conversion loss.
Your batteries are already obsolete, they released v2 and v1 and v2 can not work together, also no updates for the V1 battery either its not updatable. RIP
