Best board I have seen made in terms of craftsmanship. Love the colors. One major issue. The board cannot be played on. In chess, the white pieces are placed starting on the A1 square and the white queen would end up on the white square. Meaning he placed the letters edges where the numbers should of been and vice versa. I wondered if he could fix it.

Your work somehow completely keeps me awestruck and enthralled. Congratulations on providing a truly educational, peaceful and rewarding experience on RUclips.

wow that is actually a fantastic looking board you've made there, apart from the coordinates issues its looks beautiful, although looking at the thickness of the board and the board that the coordinates errors on it, I would consider slicing the board in half and getting 2 boards out of the project

  • @ParaglidingSweden

It’s a beautiful piece but as many has already said the square of A1 should always be black. Think you can move the board around and the result will be impressive!!

mtmwood I think there might be a minimal-effort fix here (if you still have the board). Inlay walnut rank and file indicators on a maple background, zip out the ones that are there and put the new references in their place. Could be done in a single strip on each side or circles for each. By reversing the colors, you're not inlaying the walnut on itself, and it will hide the original issue... making it look like it was intended.

@Santo White's queen goes on its own color which means white's H1 square is supposed to be light. The carpenter wasn't paying attention made White's H1 be dark instead of light. A beautiful board marred by a simple mistake. :-/

About a year and a half ago I found someone who had a walnut log and he cut it into 1 inch slabs for me and I ended up with about 150 board feet, he charged me 300.00 and I thought I got a real good deal. A few weeks ago I was planing it down and hit a few nails so it was off to a bad start. After running it through the planer I noticed all the knots and sapwood so I decided to use some red oak that I had instead for a dining room table and some benches for my daughter. Someday I will use the walnut, just not sure what for now. Thanks for all your videos, very interesting.

Great looking CUTTING BOARD! Only improvement I'd offer is to see the inlay between the field and the border recessed as a blood groove.Yes, the field is off, but a 90* rotation before assembling the border will fix that. Great work though, watching the CNC do it's thing is mesmerizing!

I hate to say this because it's so beautiful... The letters need to be where the numbers are and the entire board rotated 90 degrees in either direction.. When setting up pieces, the rule is: white on right, queen on her color. This means that when facing your side of the board, the square at the furthest right on the row closest to you is supposed to be white. This board can be played correctly or called correctly but not both.

The letters in chess are misplaced while playing chess light square (light side) always comes to players right side hence A B C D starts from black and end at H at black Here A is starting from dark square instead of white light square which is incorrect else a nice video
so A1 should be a dark square

Also the ranks are numbered from white's position, so white's queen is on d1 and black's queen is on d8. I realize this years ago but hope it was easily rectified.

Whether the H1 is white or black - I couldn't care less. The woodworking is amazing. I had a look at your website, and see that you are selling your chopping (cutting) boards for a very low price. Perhaps in Russia, $126 is a lot for a handmade item, but globally, I think you could and should charge more. This chess board is a work of art, and I hope that you don't sell yourself short on it. I think I would charge $300-$400 for something like that. Best of luck to you.

+dave1234u That was intentional as this is a "cutting board", not a playing board. He also makes playing boards on this channel.

+Bo Belga +zorgi He meant "I don't think so pal" as in, it's an obvious mistake, why would you intentionally make a mistake on a cutting board just because it's not a chess board? Personally when I attempt this great demo I'll do it with White is Right, even though I'm not going to use it as either a cutting board or a chess board.

Dear your work is impressive, from Argentina I look at your work and I am impressed by the skill you have. Now, I should pay more attention. is the second video since I see your work and you make the same mistake, h1 is white not black. Can you imagine that from Argentina you can order a board and do not know if the paintings will come as they correspond? more attention at work. However, it does not take away the excellentness of your work. Congratulations

Very nice result - Can I ask why you didn't make the squares from one strip of wood each?

    • @mtmwood
      @mtmwood  9 лет назад

Steve SteveS The side of the square is 50 mm. I need 52 mm in the working process. I can't get this thickness even of 2" lumber, only 48-49 mm.
