Hi Becky, My husband has been farming his whole life, so I asked him about your nitrogen/bean root question and he said that the beans take approx 98% of the nitrogen from the roots to mature, so they leave an estimated 2% behind. To organically add nitrogen to your soil, early every spring, when the ground is still frozen, my husband underseeds the winter wheat field with red clover and it's the red clover that leaves nitrogen rich nutrients behind to help fertilize the next crop. Hope this helps☺
Yes, the only way to really add a surplus with beans, is to not actually grow them for harvesting, but only as like a cover crop, so you wouldn't let them mature, & you would want to incorporate the entire plants back into the soil. But still, leaving the roots in the ground- even if only 2% of the amount of nitrogen in the entire the plant, is better than nothing.
@@AcreHomestead also, even though they are at the end of their life, they still look to be iron deficient. The dark green veining g & light color of the leaves usually means iron deficiency. Laura from Garden Answer recommends chelated iron, because I think it's more readily available for the plants to use, however I've not been able to find any products in a small amount/ that didn't cost an arm & a leg. I know for flowers, in containers, PW has a water soluble Fertilizer that has chelated iron. I only use it in containers because it's not organic but I did use it once on a veggie bed once where I had some very sad looking plants that I really wanted to save, & ot did work very well.
Your parents are the best! What a blessing! I'm 61 yrs old, and I still help my children. It's not as easy as I get older. My grown children don't even notice that I'm growing older. It's definitely a challenge to work hard along with them, and they still don't notice that I struggle more. That is because I push on, I still want to help, and I refuse to show weakness. I really feel it later, but to be with my children and grandchildren, it's all worth it.
My husband is a certified pesticide applicator and that is an Orb Weaver or commonly known as a garden spider! Super good sign that she's in there. Totally harmless and doesn't care to come into your house.
I love your videos I can't have enough of those ,and when mom and dad are in it's a plus ! I think you 'll have couple of months of potato's and black beans! Good job Becky you earn the medal of no.1 gardener!❤❤😊
I agree. Her consistency is what really kept me around. Don’t get me wrong I love her energy and how much she motivates me as well but Forreal I know I can depend on her any time she’s suppose to post. Lucky me I’m newer and I can still watch “old” videos that feel new to me 😇
My Granny used to use the tiny potatoes for steaming with green beans. She would add bacon pieces and sauteed mushrooms in with them sometimes. So very good!
Just so you know for next year, there’s no reason to plant your potatoes that deep. 6 inches will work and your newly emerging potato plants won’t have to expend so much energy just getting to the sunshine, therefore they’ll have a little more for the potatoes. Plus you won’t have to dig so deep to harvest them. Less soil disturbance too! 😊
Fun fact! The nitrogen fixation by the black beans is actually a symbiotic relationship between nitrogen fixing bacteria and the plant. Where the plant gives energy in form of organic acids and by "buffering" oxygen(which is important for the nitrogen fixing process in the bacteria), and the bacteria provides nitrogen.
I love that your parents support your passion. It was so much fun to watch the three of you in the garden. Not everyone has that kind of family and it's nice to see. And homegrown potatoes are THE BEST!!
Becky It’s amazing how we watched the entire process of moving in, having baby Acre, building the entire garden area , watching it grow then going through the harvest and canning with you🎉🎉🎉 you have taught me so much and I thank you for that ❤❤❤

You and your parents harvesting together is my favorite. I feel like I know them because I was your dads channel too. He’s so sweet and your mom is so encouraging ❤
Your dad and harvesting potatoes is enough to bring a smile to anyone's face. I've seen him do it over the last few years and he cracks me up every time. Bless him and your mom, and your family too!!😊
That's a nice pile of onions you got, just from helter skelter onion plants. Many grand blessings everyone everywhere.
I follow Laura on Garden Answer. She has the most magnificent gardens. She has about 4 acres of plantings in her yard. She plants everything. Everything she grows is just beautiful. She tells you what she uses . Very helpful.
I absolutely LOVE your parents! My mom is gone now but she used to come out and help me do all sorts of things like this. Enjoy every minute you have with them!
Seriously, could your parents be any sweeter? (“Treasure hunting” for potatoes!! And your mom with the garden spider!!) What a blessing to get to spend the day in your new garden, in the rain, with them! Beautiful memories!!
Your parents are so sweet! Love how excited your dad was about the size of potatoes.
Just what I needed today. Thanks for a slice of a rainy day with your folks. :)
this is great watching you with your mum and dad working together
Thanks, Becky's parents for helping!

What an amazing journey so far! ❤🎉🫶🏻👏🏻
Your dad is so lighthearted and fun!
Becky, your Mom & Dad are naturals infront of the camera just like you. Love your videos. Wishing you all the best. Congrats on the bountiful harvest!
Your father seems to truly enjoy helping you treasure hunt. I love it! Great memories. Your first year was a success. I also am commenting from the video you made peach salsa and tomatoe salsa to freeze. I prefer to raw/ cold pack my diced tomatoes.
Your dad is so adorable! This was such a fun video to watch! (all for your videos are so fun!)
A day without Becky is like a day without sunshine! You certainly brighten my day!
You are to sweet lol
watching you in the garden with your parents reminds me of how our family gardened. I love seeing your father's excitement over the potato finds 🙂
