I am old enough that I once was able to ride the train through the tunnel from the tunnel opening to downtown Los Angeles. I was absolutely fascinated that the train ran underground and ended up under a large building. It is a fond memory. I am so sad to see that the remnants are now tucked away in an expensive apartment complex that the folks in the neighborhood can't afford to live in. I wonder what archeologists a few hundred years from now will make of this.
Yeah, it's still there. Only the tunnel is no longer accessible due to being permanently sealed up and there's a security guard who watches it along with the new apartment building.
The sound is from "Interurban Memories". It is from a recording of a trip south on the 4 track main line from LA to Watts, 1959, made by Stan Kistler. PE whistles once were heard all over LA.
and now we have luxury apartments that nobody can visit unless you are a tenant or know a tenant. Thanks Los Angeles for making native Angelenos feel welcome

Does anyone know what the Toluca Yard building was used for? It always seemed to just sit there non operated.
The building that was just outside the tunnel was a powerhouse that generated the electricity to power the cars in that area.
so that tunnel is still there and station but only underground
So that area is gone? What a shame.
