  • SN: Sacramento Northern Vintage Video is played as a former passenger, Tom Buckingham of Oakland/Moraga discusses his memories of riding on the train. Video was 16mm then converted to digital for RUclips that covers from Oakland up to and across the Lisbon trestle. Some video from the cab of a freight engine, other along the RoW as the passenger cars roll by. Some neat little tidbits of history are also included. It's neat to hear from a former passenger about his memories of riding the train, and his sharing of his videos helps keep the memories alive of the great SN!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this with narration, and especially thanks to Tom for making it in the first place. The narration is key in making this useful to those of us who would only recognize bits and pieces on our own. This is truly priceless!

This video and the other similar companion one were originally recorded on 16 mm film taken by Tom Buckingham, formerly of Oakland and now a resident of Moraga. The voice you hear is also that of Tom Buckingham. Although he has always shared this material and has no problem with someone else placing them on RUclips, he is disappointed that he was not given credit for all the work he did.

Amazing to see all of this, especially being a railfan of 32 years and living in Sacramento and knowing a bit of the area.

I grew up along the Sacramento Northern tracks, they ran across from my Grand dads home on Chabot Road in Oakland and My dad and I removed tons of the old red wood ties at Port Chicago for retaining walls in Pleasant Hill in 1954, wish I had save the dating nails. My dad used to talk about jumping the train with his brothers in the 20's and 30's to ride into town, lots of fond memories of the old electric locomotives and the noise of the traction motors when they were running down hill into Oakland.

The film collection 'Sacramento Northern 1940' on VHS and DVD has great scenes of the Sacramento Depot and SN's 17th and D street yard.

Did the Vacaville Branch not go around Travis to the north? I watched the Diesels when I lived there from 1957 to 1963.
