I'm really loving your channel! It's nice to find someone so close to my age for a change. I'll be 30 this summer and I think you said your early 30's yourself too. It's also nice to see someone without a huge family doing this too. And you know a lot but are still happily learning too. I find your great at explaining things as well.
Thanks so much! I turn 31 in July. I was hoping people would enjoy watching b/c I don't have a huge family lol most of them do or have grown kids and people seems to enjoy watching me try to figure things out.
I love the get er done no nonsense way you get things done. It's so good for me to see. I grew up with a very type A (everything gets done in a very particular way) mother and was very type A myself for a lot of years. I still am halfway but I'm learning getting it done is better than never doing it bc the way you do it takes 18 years.....
Just watched another 3 of ur older vids ,enjoyed every one ,only time I really relax is when in watching ur vidios ,so relaxing ,thanks for taking us along ,
This was extremely satisfying to watch..Leeks are one of my favorite vegetables especially for broths/soups, and sautéed into potatoes with unsalted butter, the flavor is undercribably delicious. I Love your videos Becky, and all the regular noises in the background of normal everyday life add to the genuiness of your videos.Keep those great videos coming..it would be wonderful to meet you some day,but I imagine your life is full, full ,full.
I’m loving them! I have already used so many. I now wish I have started much more. They sat outside for so long and I didn’t use them but now that they are inside in my pantry I’m loving it
I like this format of video that takes you from harvest to preserving. Very helpful. I love planning, planting, and caring for my garden. Harvesting is even great! But I find I avoid harvesting....because then you have to DO something with them!
Maybe a small outdoor sink/counter for prepping veg before they come in the house. The drain for the outside sink can go into a bucket and poured back into the planting beds. This way all that dirt is not going into your drain. Just a thought maybe for the future. Great job on the leeks.
I’ve got white onions in my dehydrator right now. I’m enjoying making my own onion powder out of them. I just harvested a bunch of tomatoes so I’m going to dehydrate a bunch and then store them in a jar with olive oil.
I know I'm somewhat late here, but I find soaking the sliced leeks in deep water better at getting the grit out than running water. Your enormous harvesting bowl would be awesome, but you could just clean the sink and fill it with water. Then swish them around a bit. The grit sinks to the bottom, so *scoop* the leeks off the top, rather than tipping through a colander. You'll be amazed at what you find on the bottom of the bowl / sink 😬
The second video I've watched and I love it, subscribed immediately! I love your energy and ideas you are so resourceful thank you for sharing with us x
Thank you for this video. I grew leeks from seed this year for the first time. I also grew potatoes so I could can potato leek soup. I had a great crop of leeks and need to freeze and dehydrate some of them.
Loving leeks. Can’t wait to grow some. In the meantime they are ‘cheap as chips’ in the supermarket so I’m off to buy some. Dehydrator - here we come !
I slice my leeks lengthwise but not all the way thru the leek only to the middle. This cuts down on having to wash it twice. I also freeze my leeks in snack bags and then put them in a large freezer bag is it gives me individual servings and it helps with freezer burn.
I learn so much from you. I have obviously heard of leeks but I really have never eaten them or really knew anything about them. Now I want to go try some. It’s not at all what I had thought they were.
Yesterday I took all the tarragon out of the garden and made tarragon salt with it. The rest went into the dehydrator. I didn’t get that much, maybe two cups of the salt, but I am hoping for another harvest before winter. Zone 5b here. I have just one row of leeks and I can’t wait to get them into the pantry. Thanks for this. I actually like the idea of freezing them as well for leek and potato soup in the dead of winter. Isn’t it so satisfying to preserve it all?
I’d like to dehydrate. Some leeks but they are so expensive here in Canada ,and I tried growing them and they did not get big enough, such I dehydrated Green onions instead and they are so versatile for soups ,eggs anything and I make green powder as I need it from them!
Becky, I don't know if you rad about this or not. Heather was in a car accident the night before Valentines Day. She unfortunately lost her husband. She and their 2small owners were injured sent to different hospitals..They are all home and having much therapy. Heather loves when you watch her video 's and cannot wait to start up again. Givr her a shout out . Heather @ the Kneady Homesteader
Awesome! I’m going to dehydrate some leaks today too and use the leaves as well to make leak chips 😛 I’ll post a video of my how to as well if you want to check it out 😊 happy homesteading ❤
Hi Becky , not sure ,if this is what you had in mind but homestead heart, March 21st 21, she has a promo and review of a nice looking dehydrator, maybe ya wanna check it out....she has a pretty nice channel.. I remember You said you were looking for another dehydrator
I can’t understand how to keep leak in my garden in this area. They are almost all eaten by animals around here I didn’t get to pick a single one :( How long shall they be in the ground abs growing for?
Leeks, onions, garlic and chives lose a lot of their flavor when dried. It should be considered a no other option thing.... Better to use them in a recipe for canning. As a general rule the more a plant smells up your house when fresh the more it's going to lose its flavor when dehydrated. (Volatile organic compounds).
That is interesting. I've not heard this before, but I am just learning these sorts of things. My kitchen definitely smells lovely and the Excalibur is a hummin. :) just bought a house over winter and they grow wild. My first ever harvest... we shall see what comes of it!

I’m new here but feeling the same way. I’m 32 with one child and just found my love of gardening and homesteading over the last 2 years 😁😁

Leeks are a main crop in my household. Glad to see someone do a video on preserving them!

Watching while pumping for the babies 🐄 😅- your videos are so relaxing, thank you!!
I need to do some leeks , I don't know why I never thought to dehydrate,,thanks They look great in the jar,so pretty

A salad spinner should also work for water removal on the chopped leeks.
great idea
I love your channel! I was thinking 'hey I should dehydrate these leeks'. Look for a video and my favorite girl has one!!!
❣️❣️, sorry - I didn’t start commenting until today. But dear lord, I’ve been binging the Becky!!!!! ❣️❣️ even hubby is in on it a lot of the time.

I bought a laundry sink with legs and found a place to set up outside and used my hose to fill it …then the water goes back into garden
OMG, you 11:11'd! 😍😍😍 I do it all of the time, people think I'm crazy! This makes me want to try growing leeks!
I’ve got white onions in my dehydrator right now. I’m enjoying making my own onion powder out of them. I just harvested a bunch of tomatoes so I’m going to dehydrate a bunch and then store them in a jar with olive oil.
I grew my first batch of leaks this year I am ready to harvest thanks for info

Thank you. You are so inspiring. I just planted 15 plants of sugar snap peas wish me luck.. I need to plant me some leeks too! 😊
Thanks so much! Best of luck you got this :)
By the time I'm done with your channel I can totally see myself buying a food dehydrator

Wow those area all great tips! Thanks so much
@@AcreHomestead Hi Becky - do you dehydrate your fresh herbs too?
So many plastic bags, though.....
I learn so much from you. I have obviously heard of leeks but I really have never eaten them or really knew anything about them. Now I want to go try some. It’s not at all what I had thought they were.
Hi. I totally forgot to use my dehydrator for leeks. I will definitely be using this method next time around. Thanks 👍🌱
A salad spinner works great to get water and dirt off and help dry them!
I have one I just bought but It was dirty and I didn’t have time to wash it
Great idea to dehydrate leeks and crumble them into food. I do freeze them as you do, but never tried drying them. Thanks!
I use a salad spinner to get the Max water off before dehydration
💚 leeks

It’s the best feeling Mary! I need to grow tarragon!
@@AcreHomestead it’s really good with chicken and a cream sauce. You’ll love it 😊

11:11 make a wish!! Lol, I'm 45 and STILL do that!
Haha
Enjoyed the video. What is the light you have plugged in in the background by your sink? I love it!
I have the same dehydrator
what temp did you set it at
great video
How in the world did you find a dehydrator on market place? Here in California can’t find any thing worth a dollar. You’re so lucky . ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It took lots of looking! Lol
You should try creamed leeks over boiled potatoes...sooo good.

I just left 12 more jars on your porch!
I saw that! They will be filled!
Where did you get that colander! We are a family of 8 and I could really use one that size! 😂
amazon!!
I came to ask this too!!
I bet it does smell good!
Hello Becky. I just found your channel today, it's so interesting. How long do your dehydrated leeks keep? Do you use oxygen absobers?
What temp? I swear I thought you said 70ish the first time I watched, but now I can't recall it!
You don’t think the leaks might start growing again if you don’t take them out?!? Just wondering.
I don’t know.
They go to seed
👍
What would happen if you left the roots planted and only cut off at the base? Would they grow again and give you seeds?

do you guys do leeks in cheese sauce? bc that is all I could think of this whole video
No! I need to look into that
Is the device taking a long time to dry? Does it consume electricity? From which store was it purchased?
It does use electricity but the food lasts forever!

how long do they last in the jar??,
A long time!
