The challenge is to play as Czechoslovakia and survive the German attack. We have to stay democratic and join the allies, defend ourselves and then strike back at Germany. This one went a bit in an unexpected direction. Can we succeed? Tune in and find out.

In light of this Czechoslovakia challenge, I propose another one:
As Czechoslovakia, defeat both Germany and the Soviet Union. However, do not fully conquer them, because, being the glorious line that Czechoslovakia is, it may only annex states in an east-west line, east of Carpathian Ruthenia and west of the Sudetenland.

Thanks, but I don't necesarilly suck at micro, I know how to do it when I have to, but I just really, really HATE micromanagement and hence choose not to do it :) And I suppose the question is whether not doing something is the same thing as sucking at it. If you believe so - then ok, I suck at micro ;) I would not play this game at all if you had to micro units. Micro is absolutely no fun for me.
Alex's videos are meant to be more funny and entertaining than anything

I felt like HOI4 is supposed to be more like an "Armchair General" play, where you do little to no micro. You want micro? Go back to HOI3-2.

@@idonotexistprobably4755 And thats where you are wrong. At the time we had extremely well developed military and weaponry. One of the best in Europe at the time actually. Not to mention mobilization order. So much so that germans right after ocupacion started using a whole lot of our weapons and weapon factories.
So if certain guy (Chamberlain) didnt want to stop Hitler by impeachment and instead France and Britain chose to support us in a battle thats where war migh have ended. Then again it is might have could have... But search a bit of info about it. Without our weapons and factories Germany would lack a lot of firepower it had later on. Not to mention they wouldnt be able to use blitzkrieg so easily. Especialy against us. Look at map. Most of our border is made out of mountains and hills and on most of them were (and still are today but abandoned) many and I mean MANY bunkers.
I hate to speculate with could have, might have, should have... But to say we wouldnt survive? Yeah I wouldnt be so sure. All we needed was some military support back then and the whole thing could have gone down whole different route.

Germans would have invaded SSSR earlier which means they would have pushed the Soviets more
So at the end allies would probably have more of a foothold in eastern Europe

Meanwhile a time-travelling version of Taureor was recording the Mongolian Empire episode and got screwed by USA. If i remeber correctly Czechoslovakia refused & held for a long time in that episode too.

That would be fun, but RNG would likely make this challenge extremely difficult, if not pretty much impossible! First he needs to form the HRE which has pretty low chances. I believe you can only do this with Germany as well, so just Britain, USSR, and France would be boosted, and then the task of fighting the major powers on fully boosted seems like it would take a million tries! It would be amazing to watch that happen, though. Maybe I just suck at this game and it would be able to be done.
theres a difference between HRE and roman empire. rome can be formed by italy when all it's territories are included

When I first started playing HOI4 on May 20th, I was confused about why people were complaining about manpower since I started out as the British Raj and they have like 4.7 million manpower to begin the game on volunteer only. I have since made many different playthroughs as different countries to get more of a challenge, then recently I stumbled along the save file again. I chose to play it, and in September of 1937, I already have 16 million manpower, and 32 troops. (All surrounding Siam since I want to puppet them for their manpower) I will update more when I am finished.
I completely forgot about this. I turned fascist and I got independence after wwii which we barely won. At one point, the u.k. Capitulated and we were to fight on our own. It was weird because I was fighting fascism with fascism. I gained African colonies, independence, and plenty of puppets to sustain myself. I then went to war with the allies after leaving, and won that. I created a faction called “Long life the scammers!” For no apparent reason. In 1953, and the game running at 5 days per 5 hours, I chose to call it quits. The only things remaining is South America, Central America, Germany, Soviet Union, Italy, Japan and plenty of puppets.
My grandfather and many of his generation (at least those I ever spoke to about the subject) almost insisted that Germans spun their war machine on CS shoulders and if CS would defend itself there were according to them two mostly cited possible outcomes.
First was that CS would fall after a roughly two years of a bitter fight, but would put so much of a strain to Germany, that allies wouldn't have half the problem beating the Germans back.There are mountains all around the borders making tank warfare especially in early development very unlikely and taking in the account that CS developed and deployed very effective anti-tank barrier, the so called "Czechoslovak Hedgehog" which unlike the other designs of the kind couldn't be disabled by any practical means as not even direct hit from artillery shell would be enough to destroy it. That combined with extensive border bunker network was admitted to be more than enough to hold on even by Germans themselves (after they took the Sudetten).
Second was that CS would weather out the German onslaught only to end up being framed as instigator of the war and then forced to hold out literally against the whole world. Mainly because defending the CS would most likely be perceived as rejection of Munich Dictate.
It can be simply explained by following phrase> (CS) did not bend and give up the land and (Allies) have a war on their hands because of it.
Some said that Hitler wouldn't advance forward with his plans until he would deal with CS, but I find it hard to believe considering how smashed he was from cocaine abuse (at least according to his doctor's notes which may also explain his increasingly violent temper over the years and rather unjustified overconfidence in his decisions, some of which later proved so disastrous)
Finnaly someone whit a fucking brain.
Some German generals believed that Hitler is a dangerous crazy lunatic, at that time. They were prepared to overthrow him if an opportunity would appear. Such opportunity could have been the adventurios war with Czechoslovakia. Unlike the Czechoslovak one, the German military was not in a very good shape at the moment so the war would not go quite smoothly, which could help the insurgents. Maybe the nazi regime would end in Germany in 1939-1940 in such way if only Czechoslovakia would defend itself. But it did not. After that Hitler had achieved so many successes that nobody in Germany thought of overthrowing him for next 4 years or so.
I really hate cornflakes command system. It`s so annoying. It`s impossible to keep tidy frontline because when the line moves, armies get reassigned in a random and stupid way. It used to be a problem earlier, but you could just move some troops to other part of frontline by one click - now it`s impossible due to unit limits in armies. Also, number of armies is impossible to menage in late game. It`s hard to create enough generals, and most of them is always inexperienced. Just irritating. Those random events (mutiny, strikes, etc.) are also annoying. All in all, I would prefer to have my HOI from before Cornflakes.
Although, new production options, enhanced construction tool etc. - those are OK.

I don't think this would work, in the game, the border defence was ready in about 1940, in reality it would be done in 1942. Also, the uprisings of sudeten germans weren't really a thing in the game. And neither was the slovakian betreyal.

Germany on historical settings(if at all. Here we have seen them never attack each other due to being buzy with Allies) will attack soviets only in 1941. By that time player led Turkey would have crushed all of Middle East and maybe even capitulated Raj. If USA wouldn't join yet, then they'll get a peace conference and can use indian manpower through puppet divisions. Soviets will have ALL of it's border attacked. They'll fold on initial blitz, that's what I'm saying. No desperate defense that will succeed, no counter offensive.
Limit on special forces was one of the best ideas for balance and realism that paradox has made for this game.
This makes me feel patriotic. Almost a teary eye....

I tried playing Democratic Czechoslovakia once and I was doing well holding off the Germans but I made the mistake of conquering Hungary and Croatia and so opened myself up to the Italians. When I had to split my defenses the Germans managed to break through one of my forts and that was the end of me...
when you ask if "nuclearly" was how you said it and no nuclearly is not a word. Its a case of English tense issues, the past tense adverb for a nuclear bombing is "there were bombed, atomically" love the channel

I did this a while ago. Basically, by not surrendering Czechoslovakia breaks the entire world. I remember in my playthrough, the british did not capture Koinsberg, so Poland did not fare that well. Still, I don't know if the IA was smart enough and doing it intentionally, but having captured Krakow they held back their forces on a completelly defenseless Warsaw until the soviets declared war on Poland and forced the allies to a war agaist them.

I always wanted some good film studio to make film from alternate history where allies didn't chicken out in front of Germany but stayed to the contracts and sended their armies to defend Czechoslovaks.
We had really great defence system at the borders with Germany but didn't have enough soldiers or tanks etc. to match them. But with bigger army (allies) it could've be really great war film.

When I first started playing, I played Germany. And didn't know about frontlines, so I manually ordered ALL my troops to Warsaw and there towns, one by one. The super army didn't work out.
I always go for the easy encirclement as Czech, when germans are attacking poles, If you time it right and have some luck you can cut off massive amount of forces between you and poland.
Before playing HOI4: I don't know why these youtubers complain about democratic playthroughs!

Since they have man power in the game they should put in horse power as well. The amount of horses that have been sacrificed to the meat grinder by Taureor is astonishing.
How funny; I was playing Czechslovakia the exact same day that this video came out. It didn't go too well, but I annexed Hungray and made a faction with Romania and Yugoslavia.

Taureor I dont know i guess the cuts come at the right times and the clips are perfect in length. These are the only strategy videos i have the attention span to watch from the start to the end.

Czechoslovakia was one of my favourite playthroughs for Death or Dishonour, I got really lucky in my Democratic game, the Germans fell to pieces against the Allies allowing me to push out quickly. I had a harder time trying to get the Czechmate achievement but Waking the Tiger made that trivial.
I bet this is the hardest challenge: Conquer the whole world as Switzerland.
