As valuable as this video is, it was way too hard to find. RUclips algorithm needs to get its act together. Thank you for putting yourself in harms way for this demonstration.

I wonder how many lives you have saved by making this video, great stuff. I been around for while but have never been exposed to this type of brake but knew they were dangerous. I am on a tunneling job which has rolling stock with these brakes fitted, I will be showing you video to our mechanical team as a safety talk as a most of them have no idea of the dangers of with these units.
A quick question, should you disarm them if they are going to the scrap?
    Cheers

First I want to say, yes I'm the Mr. Weeks in the video. This was not my first time doing this, it was the first time filming it. I wanted the spring for brakes classes to illustrate the size of the spring. That being said, with my experience doing this I knew where the spring was going to go. Yes the cutting torch set is there, but the angle makes it look closer that it actually is.
It is quite humbling to see all the comments and how it is being used outside of our college.

What pisses me off is brake chamber band clamps coming in contact with the adjacent chamber when mounting. You then have to loosen the clamps and rotate the clamp. Fucking dangerous.

  • @shamanenrique

nah nah nah, you just replace the phreakin can. there ain't no rebuilding or replacing diaphragms, you replace the can. replace the diaphragm on the fronts all you want but when it come to drive and trailer brakes...REPLACE THE PHREAKING CAN!!! duh

My Dad had a small trucking business years ago when I was really young. He was teaching me how to service the trucks. One day he after he just got back from a trip he told me to change the diaphragm on one of the brake cans on the diesel tractor which I think had 13?bolts holding the can together. The one bad thing he didn’t tell me was I had to bleed the air system first. I got all the 13 bolts off and was tapping on the brake can with a hammer to sort of loosen it up and lifted my head off the creeper to see why it wasn’t coming off. Right when I was moving my face out of the way it blew off barely hitting the side of my face. I received a huge lump and bruise to my cheek bone and I socket. If my face was directly in the way of that sudden explosion it might of smashed my face into pieces and maybe bled out since I was the only one at the shop.
