    In this how to video I show you how to install these new boat style latches Ive used in a few builds recently. I like them a lot more than the push button knobs i used to use that were cheap and kept breaking, these seem much more heavy duty.

    ABOUT ME
    I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born to be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. I design and build all kinds of custom wood work and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California!
    Please email me solidwoodworx@gmail.com to get on a list and when the shop is ready I'll be back in business!

    Thanks for the video I'm using 3/4 ply for decking on my boat, the latches I have are chrome and metal so I'm not sure if they are the same measurement to modify the ring, but I'm glad I saw this so I wouldn't have to return them! I guess we will find out Thursday

    When using a hole saw you can stop about 4mm from punching through and come in from the other side if you are drilling grained timber this stops the back from blowing out as it does in the video. Not so critical with MDF but it does have a neater finish on both.👍

    I appreciate all of your videos and you sharing your knowledge and craftmanship!
    This type of latch came on my current camper van (made by LA West back in 2000). I recently purchased and installed matching ones on some new cabinetry that I made. I wanted to note that these do come in a model designed for thicker applications, in my case I bought some made for 3/4" application. They work without modification. They were Southco brand, purchased from Amazon.
    Keep up the great vids, please, I watch them all!

    I appreciate you making these videos, It's great how thorough you make them. I've been interested in these kinds of latches as they look very similar to the drawer latches in the westfalia vans. They should work just as well in a a simple sliding cabinet drawer right? PS You're saying altercation but I think you mean to say alteration. An altercation is like a conflict between two people.

    These will work well with the quarter inch birch ply I like using for my doors. Don't have to worry about screws coming out the back side. Is that a vinyl covering on those doors? You ever use masking tape over the hole area to try and cut down on the tear out?

    • @SolidWoodWorx
      @SolidWoodWorx  4 года назад

      Yes i find one just a bit smaller than the door height on these kind of upper cabinets. But you can mount them however far up the side to get the angle you want the door to open too!

      @@SolidWoodWorx sorry so where the catch on the back is 180 degrees rotated. Then the front pull would be easier to pull on a upper cabinet.

      I see what you mean it's not a matter of tue latch function it's a matter of operating them so in this position it becomes more of a thumb pull than a finger pull unless you get in the habit of flipping your hand around all the way.
