Dude! I can't tell you how happy this video just made me. I'm doing a very advanced Jon boat to bass boat conversion for my first build. I have easily over 200 hours of RUclips watching to learn how and how not to build a bass boat. 10+ hours just on hatches and this is the ONLY video on how to use slam latches for 1/2 wood hatches! My only option for hatch latches before this video was cam latches. At $15-$25 a piece for cam latches, and I need 18, that just was out of the budget. Thank you so sooooo much for this vid!!!
Thanks for doing this video. I've never even heard of these latches before today and am trying to get my ducks in a row before I start modifying the boat I bought this week. Just trying to gain as much knowledge as possible on all aspects before starting. Great video. Thanks again.
This video is exactly what I have been looking for. Purchased the exact latches for Amazon and could not figure out how to attach them securely. Thank you so much for such great information.
Thanks, perfect timing. Just finished carpeting my hatches and installing hinges, now it’s time for the latches and struts. Your video confirms my plan of attack for the latches.
Nice video man. I've been working on my 16 ft 70 beam Jon boat. It has an 3/4" corrugated aluminum deck. I disassembled the front deck and put new carpet in. I rewired the boat because the trolling motor wasn't fused. I moved the switch panel and put in new toggle switches. I have it ready to fish now.
11/32 plywood is 9mm thick. I’m just looking at wood I can buy and can not find 11/32 or even 9mm. So you say you buy it a Lowe’s?? The hatch looks like a great thickness which is super nice.
Ummmm I do not not. I bet FireAnt Fishing did something though! I'd start there. I know he did a "budget build" recently and they showed how to cut out a few hatches.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats I was asking because I see some holes in the body of the latch and I think when water from the rain starts to build at the handle, at a certain point will reach those holes and then water goes inside.
I don't think they will work with 3/4. They mechanism that latches will hit the plywood. It needs clearance to catch the latch. Manufacturer states 1/2 inch max I believe.
you should have just mocked up another lid for the demo instead of removing that finished lid and not chance breaking it. thanks for the video, good tips!
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats glue was a great idea. i was just cringing when you went to pry it off because knowing my luck I'd break the latch and the wood and Amazon would be out of the latches 🤣. I love the attention to detail and the finishing you put on the project. Looks great. Thanks again.
@@alorr4uz Haha, I had a few extra I recently purchased just for the video so no worries! Thanks again for the compliments, hopefully done soon enough.

Thanks for the latch tutorial
No problem, thanks for watching and leaving positive feedback!
Also, I'm doing my framing with 1.5" aluminum framing and these latches, with your modifications, will work perfect!!

Glad I could help
You have greatly inspired me. In actively looking for a 14ft jon boat to literally deck it out into my dream boat
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck building your dream boat buddy.

Awesome! Strut video coming in a few days!

Thanks man , good luck on your boat, sounds like a beast!
Dude this just helped out so much with figuring out where to drill my 2” hole! Just saved me a ton of head ache thank you 🙏!
No problem man, thanks for the feedback, definitely glad it helped ya out! Thanks
Thanks brother!! Huge help to me on my boat project.
Glad it helped. Thank you for the kind words
TRULY GREAT VIDEO. LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT
Dumbing it down for viewers as always. AWESOME video brother!
Thank you sir
Great Video thanks for sharing .Your attention to detail is awesome !
Thanks a lot man!
Awesome! I'm almost to this point and this has helped me greatly! Can't wait to see the strut video as I will be doing those also!
Thanks man! Strut video coming in a few days. Love how they turned out!
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats Can't wait to see it!
Did you install carpet prior to measuring and cutting the hole? thx Boss
I typically cut the hole in wood before carpet. It can be done after, but easier and more accurate before.

Looks great and thanks for the these videos. 👍
No problem my man
Hey do u have a video or know of a really good video on cutting out the deck hatches?

@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats thank u
Any weight limit issues with the wooden hatches? I'm 320 and seems like I might have to be careful where I stepped.
Yeah I'd recommend aluminum build for my o lineman anglers
hello sir, i have a broken one that i need to replace do you have any input or suggestions on how to do this?
thank you
How far from the edge do you put the latch?
Are they okay with the corrosion?? The screw in the latches ??
Thanks for counting each one individually. I wAs wondering how many.
Here to help
out of curiosity, are those water tight? I mean during rainy day are those latches allowing water into the compartment?
No. Water has never gotten in. Very tight.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats I was asking because I see some holes in the body of the latch and I think when water from the rain starts to build at the handle, at a certain point will reach those holes and then water goes inside.
What's the max thickness of hatch this would work with?
They are nade for 1/2 inch specifically. I'd imagine that's the max but hoping under as I did isn't a problem.
Where can I get a sticker like yours?
Fantastic Job! I'm just now ready to carpet mine. Where did you get the carpet? I've looked at Home Depot and Lowes, not too impressed with either.
Home Depot, it's not that great but despite my quality level on my build, i cheaper out on carpet. lol
Do you have a motor review? I’ve been trying to find the best size motor for my tiny boat.
I do not. I will do a review on my Newport Vessels Amazon electric motor I will be running once boat is in the wster.
Anthony Jones sounds great! Thanks
Nice. Did you dip that battery tie down bar?
Decided to make one out of real carbo fiber.
Has anyone used these lattches on 3/4" decking with carpet?
