I like the in depth commentary and going over all the details. Thanks for being thorough! I'm decking out my new 17' jon boat and your videos have helped me more than anything else. Keep doing what you do cousin
After watching numerous videos on the install. Finally got the information I was looking for!! 2.750 is the key I've been looking for!!!! Thanks Bro!!!!
Finally decided to add struts to my Jon Boat hatches. Anthony's RUclips installations are the best by far. This is especially true for those of us whose Jon Boat is a multi-year ongoing, I got to tinker with it, project. Thanks, Anthony I dread the day these videos would ever be gone.
Thanks so much man! I miss this good old days of tinkering slowly in the garage on the top gun jon boat! A lot has changed since then but I will continue to make builds and videos and have some good tutorials in the works! Thanks for the support!
I'd put a piece of 1x2 under your cross brace where the strut bracket is. Then you can put in a 3rd screw and it will also help support so the 2 screws don't spit your wood
I love all your woodwork. Your are a master of fit and finish. It seems like if you swapped the placement of the strut, close at the bottom and high on the hatch, it might be less likely to be in the way when pulling a fish out of the well. I think the strut would flip over and still be out of the way when you closed the hatch because of those ball joints. Just a thought.
Thanks for the suggestion! You very well may be right! I just installed based on strut manufacturers instructions. I may look into that though, thank you!
Just found your channel earlier today. I have now watched every video! Love it all! Got me inspired to do some stuff to my job boat! Keep up the great work! Thanks for the videos!
Yeah, I thought about that but I'm pretty much to the point where I'm not sweating the small stuff anymore. I just want to finish it. I thought about just cutting off the overhang with a dremel to make it clean. Not sure if I'll do anything though as it functions fine and is very tight and secure with the two screws.
No not necessarily, once downtrend pressure is released. Id recommend some sort of latch though opposed to pulls just in case they pop openbut that's just me!
Do a tour of the whole boat and putting some pictures of like what it started out looking like before you did everything to it like it did it have seats or no
I will be doing a reveal video that will be professionally edited (not by me at least). It will only include the finished product. For progress pics or what it was, all on my Instagram @adubjones
Awesome video as always!! Im going to be starting a tiny boat soon. (Not for fishing, but for diving in rivers.) A lot of your ideas will crossover to what I am doing. I am taking it a step above tho. i am mounting a 97 seadoo 717 in the boat. South Carolina rivers have a lot of rocks that kill outboard props.
Nice work. Do you have any content on how you framed the aft deck on your boat? I've seen the front deck framing video. Getting ready to frame my build, but I'm struggling with the aft framing layout.
Anthony, I check out the stuff you do a lot. You seem to take great pains in your measuring of things, while Michael Lopez admits he doesn’t ever measure much. You do a great job, so thanks for the content you provide. Am just completing an old Jon boat, but not as a bass boat. Am more of a multi-species guy but my attempt at a jon restoration isn’t up to your standard. Next time I’m going to give it a better shot. Thanks again for what content you put out.
I belive they are installed incorrectly. I think the need to be more vertical so they will close much smoother and not come crashing down on someones fingers. You should beable to close the hatch halfway or even more with having to hold on to the lid.
Install more vertically and they bind. Geometrically you can flip it but it doesn't support as well on lower pressured struts. The close rate us determined by the pound pressure of strut. The trick is to dial in the right size length and pressure accordingly for the lid. I find success with 10 inch struts in 8 pd, 10 pd, and 22 pd depending on lid size.
3 things. 1) that's a really heavy deck box. Not a light weight hatch lid in a boat. Your not gonna smash fingers on a hatch lid. 2) biggest issue, he has the struts mounted under the track or at a lower pivot point on the second lid. In a boat, especially a livewell, you cannot go that low, needs to hit framing. 3) im simply reshowing the manufacturers instructions, included withthe struts. But do what you prefer my friend
I’d be curious to see how the struts handle wind. Wind from the stern trying to close the hatch or from the bow trying to hyperextend them. Down here on the Texas coast or out in West Texas the wind is always blowing.
Great video HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you need to be a little more specific on the clips. DO NOT under any circumstances "pop the clips off". Use a small flat tip to spread the clips if required when installing or removing from brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best Strut install on RUclips. The rest of the people gloss over the detail. Thanks, you have a gift for this.
Thanks so much, I appreciate the kind words!
You might even impress the ladies 😂
Love the videos and have helped me get ideas for my boat

Thanks cuz, appreciate u
You’re so helpful. Thank you. You could charge good money for customizing fishing boats. Great work. Great advice.
Most helpful youtube video I've seen in installing gas Struts because of the plastic packaging dimensions! Lol
Haha, glad it helped!

Tony, you really are a talker. But hey, your talk makes a lot of detailed sense! 👍 Thank you!
Thank you! You have provided insight, detail, and practical considerations. My third try now will be successful. Really appreciate your videos!
Thanks, definitely appreciate the feedback!
Thanks for the great details in your video that other just skipped over.
Thank you, glad you like!!

Thanks, very informative video.

Thanks Anthony great video ! I installed some, one lid opens good but closes real fast.Do you think going up in poundage would help slow that down?
Very clear install great vid keep up the good work
Thanks!

Awesome man! You might be the first one to binge watch my channel. Thanks
Anthony Jones no he’s not
That recessed seat base is really good looking! Any chance you could share how you did that?
How did you come up with the 2.5 inches as to where you mount the strut?
manufacturer specs
Great video!!! God speed cuz
Thanks cuz. U tha man
how did u flush mount that pedestal base? looking for ideas TY
Where did you get your hatch latches??
Can you comment on the carbon fiber look splash guard? Is that merely tape or is it a hard piece and where did you source that? Looks amazing.
If you wanted to...install an extension piece for the bottom screw. I know that would bug the hell out of me.... Boat looks great man.

That's pretty slick Anthony! 👍
I don’t even have a boat but I’m still gonna watch all these videos
Nice videos,Curious, would I need compartment locks to use them, I currently have the original pull handles
Thanks for any info

U should show a little bit when u got it or when it was bare bone

I do not, sorry. If you message me on Instagram I can send you pics of the rear build. May help you out.
As always great video. Thanks again brother! You are much appreciated! Can't wait for you to do an overall reveal of the entire boat.
Just saw this, thanks so much man! Can't wait to show you guys the full boat done!
👍

any tutorial on how to mount that seat mount? i'm surprise 1/4" board can hold that much weigh
11/32" is closer to 3/8", not 1/4"

Did the strut ever start rusting or having issues closing while being exposed to water from the live well. Would have been my only concern over time
Not yet as I haven't used it. I could see that happening though. Good thing is for 5 bucks I can simply replace it. No big deal
Anthony Jones For $7 you can get nitride coated.
They use them in boats all the time.Ive installed 100's

It'd take a hell of a wind to affect them.
If the wind did affect them they were undersized psi.
We need a wiring vid plz!!!! good video btw
once it’s all done how ab a complete walk thru??🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
I will do a reveal video that will feature everything.
For the STUFF...lol

Holy rambling
Don't watch then... It's free info bro
They go up to 300lbs. I installed them in high dollar boats I used to build for 17yrs
