- In this episode. I show you how to swap a Speed controller unit and remove the speed restriction on a #crusher #kommoda Bike. I also show the effects of these changes on max unloaded speed. Please note that for Legal use on UK roads, it is required that the #ebike bike is restricted to 15.5mph of electrical assistance. and that the assistance can only be accessed by turning the pedals.

Ridiculous UK law which deters people from taking up cycling, if I'm paying for an ebike rated for 750 watts output, that's what I expect to get.
I feel that the laws relating to ebikes in the UK will be reviewed soon. Not so much to make us happy, but because the current rules dont assist in moving folk onto Ebikes from Cars as a more common transport method for shorter journeys

Why would you want to change the motor speed controller? And you didn’t answer Paddy’s question, where do you purchase a new controller?

Motor controllers can fail on all brands of E-bike. As I had a spare new controller, I decided to show how to change a controller at the same time as showing how to de-restrict the top speed. Different controllers have different max speeds due to variations in manufacturing.
I got the replacement controller from the Cyrusher website.
Yes the derestricted bike will deplete its battery faster when in max power mode than in the restricted max power mode. But the Eco and Low modes will still consume the battery at the same rate. as they limit the maximum wattage (power) supplied to the motor.
I estimate that you will only get 50% of the standard run time if running unrestricted.

Great video 👍 As this is a large fat tyre bike that looks a bit like a motorcycle do you think it attracts attention to be stopped as an illegal bike?
Hi @Pdc2938. I have never been stopped by the police to check anything, and if they did, I would have no problem with it. As mine is totally UK street legal. and it only takes a few seconds to look for a throttle and to put her in high power mode and spin up the raised wheel to check the max assitance speed.
I know that in London and other big cities, the police will pull over bikes that are clearly doing more than 15 mph without the aid of pedaling or gravity. And if they follow a bicycle for miles and no pedaling occurs then they are well within their rights to pull you over and ask why there are no number plates on your moped.😁
To be fair i think the 20 inch fat tyre look, is relatively common now and doesnt create too much additional attention.

Mine does 38 mph

Drops to about 34 on the flat. And slower on hills but does it's job ok
speeds with no load.
