Well he graduated Harvard for Political Science, so he knows what he's talking about most times. Sure a lot of it is his opinion, but regardless it still holds truth in reality. He's not just pulling this shit out of his ass. He obviously knows what he's talking about, and it's not like he's rambling either. He's very collected and direct with his answers.

I'm not American, I'm a female and I listen to metal, rock and the multiple subgenres that follow. I play and also write music (in English) and being bilingual has a lot of benefits and doesn't make the experience of listening to music any less greater. Although some Americans don't understand that unless they're musicians or very open. Talent is spread but not everybody thinks like Tom Morello people!

Yeah Ive always loved black metal but like the fact that so many of both the fans and the artists themselves are racist, homophobic, xenophobic really bothered me. Metal and hard rock music, to me, is a place where no matter where you grow up, who you are, and whatever background youre from, the music will always be there to help empower you that you arent alone and that there are people out there who feel the same. Yet some of the artists will close themselves off to those people and it just doesnt make sense to me. Closing yourself off for a specific demographic is something the radio does and MTV does, not underground music

In the Latino community I don't think it's seen as shocking at all for liking metal. I think plenty of bands in Latin/ South America are examples for Latinos in metal. However, I do think it is harder for blacks to like metal because like Tom Morello stated, we don't see as many mainstream rock/ metal musicians.
Maybe a further topic could be NSBM bands.

I'm black and I literally couldn't care less. If people want to hate, that's their problem, not mine - I enjoy life and love playing metal on my Jackson guitar - and a bunch of haters wish they had the power to change that but they don't. When I see/hear about racist people, I think "poor them, must be horrible living a life hating other people and having absolutely no power whatsoever to do anything about it".
I don't think we should have a conversation of racist fans - to hell with them. However, the important thing is that artists, who are role-models to many people, represent decent values and that's not just related to racism but to other topics as well. Therefore, when Phil Anselmo does stupid comments (not the first time), that's more of an issue than a bunch of stupid KKK fans.

There's a really fine line between in-house conversational racism, and organized racism along the lines of the KKK or Identity Evropa, who do have political power. The FBI itself has acknowledged that White Supremacists have infiltrated the police force in the US. "Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses."

My favorite musicians are Babymetal, Yvette Young, System of a Down, and yes, even Tom Morello. Jimi Hendrix is an inspiration to anyone who plays the guitar. I really resent Tom's statements here.
It's all about different cultures. I'll break it down for you. Southern metal comes from the deep south of the USA where there's a lot of white people. Viking metal comes from Scandinavia, where there's a lot of white people. Same with black metal. It's just because there are a lot of white people in these areas that metal has such a dominant white standard. So why don't more people around the world pick up the electric guitar?
Well, isn't it obvious? You look at most Latin American, Asian, and African countries and they live on about $5 a day. A cheap guitar costs about $200 and a cheap amp costs about $60. So they'd have to starve while saving for this stuff. God forbid they want two instruments or a drum set. They can't afford a Fender Telecaster plugged into a Marshall amp. They didn't go to Harvard. These people around the world just aren't as rich as Tom is. Hell, most people aren't.

Weird. I never cared one whit about the racial composition of a band. I either like them, or not. Over the years, going way back, listened to lots of Metal bands with members of various races. Living Color. Suffocation. Death Angel (Filipino members). God Forbid. Either they play music I like or they don't. Who gives a crap about race? I never did.

As much as I disagree with Tom Morello with his political views, I know people who went to that Ozzfest show and saw a lot of skins/neo nazis. However most shows I've been too didn't have obvious neonazis and also that's such a big venue that it'd be hard for bands to see.

What really pisses me off when people talk about rage against the machine is when they will get so wrapped up in the fact they have leaning ideas that they forget to see the message of anti war, anti corruption, and anti racism. That is bullshit. I love my country to death and hate communism with a passion, but this country is not perfect and who gives a damn if they’re left or right, They are being patriotic by voicing their thoughts. And yes it’s your right to criticize, but it’s my right to criticize when your just plain wrong. And one more thing, how dose rage get the Left commie hate flag, but the Mc5 get off free. Keep in mind I love both bands

Not a real Limp Bizkit fan, but Tom Morello wishes he could play guitar as skillfully as Wes Borland. That's why Rage doesn't put out any more albums. One they are all rich hypocrites. Two, Tom Morello is a one trick pony guitarist with no range.

The races of mankind are different, intrinsically. Different average intelligence, different psychologically, different in talents and proclivities. One size does not fit all.
I could be friends with a guy like Tom Morello, listening to music (not his music, RATM sucks) like Priest and Maiden, talking about guitar, etc. But when he get on to politics or race, his commie-biased views, I'd have to shut my friend down.

I disagree. Not all music is political, the best music allways becomes some form of folk witch gets embeded in culture. Politics comes from resentment and some music is based on that too. Folk music sings about the life people live in a given time, theres no resenting, thats the diference. Love, respect RATM.
