@defbroadcasting the state supposedly "didnt have funds", basically meaning it was either a toll road or no road. Exits 26-69 will be tolled, while the OG 26 miles from I-40 near RTP to I-87 Knightdale is the only untolled section
I've been down the existing toll portion in the last 3 years , when I went up there , for my cousin and her current husband's wedding , back in August 2021 , in Fuquay-Varina , and it only set me back between $1 and $2 each way , from my hotel 🏨 , at the Hilton in Brier Creek , in the northwest part of Raleigh , based on the prices displayed on the transponders . I just paid my toll , with my credit card 💳 , when I got home , when it arrived in the mail 💌📬 , up here in : Brasstown , in Clay County . That's 2 hours north of Atlanta , in southern Appalachia 🏔️ , in the southwestern part of North Carolina . Now I can see how , this can easily add up , if you're someone driving across the western , southwestern , and southern suburbs of Raleigh everyday ! I'm sure that's going to add up , for some of you , who will be using the new section of NC 540 , in the southern suburbs of Raleigh ! I'd hate to have to drive from Cary to Garner everyday , on NC 540 , later on this year ! That's really going to add up , really fast for some of you , who have to travel that distance . Look at it this way : you're paying a little bit more , to not have to sit on I-40 , during rush hour traffic , and go a whole mile , or two in 10 minutes ! I don't know about anyone else who lives up there , but I wouldn't mind trading a few hard-earned dollars , to not have to sit on I-40 , or even I-440 everyday , to or from work ! I used to live up there , and I'll be moving back up there , over the course of the next 2 to 4 years , and I can't wait to finally get to drive on the new section of NC 540 ! I can't wait until 2028 : a completed NC 540 ! 2028 can't get here fast enough ! Bring on , Raleigh beltway #2 !
is the triangle expressway opening soon? this weekend
Toll? WTF? I'm not using it...
If it cost money, why is it also a toll road? They could have made it free.

It’s tolled because the state wanted to finish it sooner but the federal government wouldn’t allocate funds until many years from now.
