I have an opportunity to buy one of these for 500 dollars. It only has 103000 on it. Little old lady owner. What a stupid location for the thermostat. But great job on the video my dude.
All I have found so far is ecotec videos. I don't have the ecotec, and where you show a heat shield, is where my air intake manifold is. Can't find my dang Thermo anywhere. Edit: the non ecotec has the thermo on the front passenger side of the engine
Heck yeah they do.. dumb enclosed trans system no dip stick wtf is this bs I gotta service the trans and they put no drain bolt or dipstick 🤦 this is why I want another Toyota
Agreed, have to replace mine, stuck partially open. A nightmare job. I replaced many thermostats in various cars, never seen anything as dumb as this. Very poor engineering.
The 3rd hose located by the top to the coolant overflow tank isn’t connected to anything and my car overheats when I’m not accelerating. But when I’m on the freeway the temperature gauge goes back to normal and car doesn’t overheat anymore. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK THE ISSUE IS?
I know this is old, but wanted to confirm that OVP (Original Video Poster) is correct. Just had this issue with my own Cavalier, fan stopped working followed by coolant reservoir rupturing, causing the tempt gauge to go up past 230 before I shut it down. There are fuses/relays for the radiator fan, but changing those did nothing in my situation. Replaced the reservoir, put new coolant, replaced the Radiator Fan Motor (My housing was fine) and had to replace it's connector because I could not get the old one to connect. After doing all of that, I still could not get the fan to kick on initially, and it always ran at 194-198. Thermostat opens at 180f, which made me think the fan "wasn't" working after fixing it. But all research said that the normal operating temperature was 210-230 (210, 220, or 230 based on google), and my local chevy dealership would not help me over the phone. I finally managed to get it to 220, and the thing kicked on one day out of the blue, finally confirming I had did the job correctly and all that. The reason I was suspicious that swapping the fan motor and relays did not fix it, initially, is because throughout my time of working on cars I had never known a car in which the fan did not automatically kick on with the AC. My Cavalier does, and still doesn't have the fan coming on with AC. But the more interesting thing about this car, is that the fan, once hitting operating temperature, stays on for like 10-20 minutes AFTER shutting off the engine. I have yet to find a reason for this, yet. Many have said it's normal, but a customer at work had a similar issue and his turned out to be thermostat on his truck. Just something to think about.
Why is your coolant green. I have the same car as you but the owners manual saids to use dexcool. And my dexcool liquid is orange. Is that a more efficient formula??
Some people drain flush the rad of dex and put in reg Green seen done on some cars from early 2000"s and chevy blazers requires a lot of flushing Dex out .
Have you had any issues where the car runs passed the mid point? Mines was running at 195 since the day I bought it. A year later it started running hotter than normal, about 2 lines passed the mid point. Ive replaced water pump, replaced coolant, new thermostat, radiator has been flushed, heater core has been flushed, pressure test was done and it seems to hold pressure ok. Not sure what it could be.
'06 cavalier..... lol... if you post something make sure you know what you're talking about... last production was an '05 and was replaced by the cobalt
Great easy for fill tank. I got 2004 cavalier I have leak somewhere which occurs over night💦 unfortunately i can't work on it outside apartment cramped environment. I keep adding antifreeze. Nothing in oil yet over 200,000 miles . Hoping have a look at container once weather changes it's too cold ⛄❄️ outdoots the Fluid ends up pass front tire. As for thermostat that's to much here but seems open as it should without getting stuck . Thank you for this video . No more eco techs like the older engines
Replace cap that was one my first issues if it won't tighten it's junk . If you can't get off pull up as you twist this is way they are made and push down as you tighten
I need to find the engine coolant bleeder valve. I know that it is on the thermostat housing (10 mm screw) and, due to this film, I know where is that housing, thank you. But in this film that screw is not seen. Now I start to think maybe it is that small bolt @13:56 right above your hand when you are attaching the housing back on the intake manifold, but it looks it is attaching something. Pls could you tell is it somewhere below or it is that screw above your hand? Thank you again.
@@Gh0sT489 I found and used it already, but thank you for the replay. Now I don't remember what size, but I used it. Not pleasant to go under the car when the engine works. Otherwise it is a simple procedure. Thank you again.
Good job!!
Just I need.

Thanks for the video. I can't believe you have to remove the manifold. What a great engineering design Chevy.

You dont
yes he does and me too

Oh absolutely

Good camera work.
What evil diabolical nutjob decided to put thermostat in that location. Engineers act stuff will never break and need to be repaired.

Sounds like cooling fans and or water pump

Could be the sensor itself
@@GibsonGarage I am assuming that you are referring to the Engine Coolant Sensor correct?
I bet it was your catalytic converter. Your check engine light should've popped on.
@@LuisMendez-up5te Not sure what happened but it ended up running right after a few days. Might have been air in my system I guess.
