I thought I would clarify some confusion that some have in comments and elsewhere. They are mostly pakhtoun people and they have mind that of dichotomy: what that means is if you come as a friend/guest, they protect you with their bare skin and with their lives. On the other hand, if you come with weapons as an enemy trying to destroy them and/or their independence and freedom, then they don't flinch razing enemy skin alive. To me, it's a fair game. Everyone has the right to defend themselves from oppression, and all people in the world have done that. What sets them apart is they have never been defeated. The only reason Alexander survived 8 years (and other empires) among them was because Alexander/Army made a truce with tribal elders and mingled with them thru intermarriage as well. However, there have always been hard-core elements among Pakhtouns who never recognized the truce or others domination, and kept ambushing them. You saw the same in this century with British, Russians, and NATO. They tried very hard to make truce, but in the end defeated by the hard-core ones whom today we call Taliban. While you were in Bamyan, did you visit the site where the Taliban, destroyed the two Buddha statues? The Buddha statues had been carved into the face of a cliff, and dated back to the 6th century. One was 180 feet tall and the other was 124 feet tall. The Taliban are very proud of this achievement. You should have seen the damage the Taliban did to the Herat Citadel, before UNESCO came in and restored it. They are mostly pakhtoun people and they have mind that of dichotomy: what that means is if you come as a friend/guest, they protect you with their bare skin and with their lives. The only reason Alexander survived 8 years (and other empires) among them was because Alexander/Army made a truce with tribal elders and mingled with them thru intermarriage as well. However, there have always been hard-core elements among Pakhtouns who never recognized the truce or others domination, and kept ambushing them. You saw the same in this century with British, Russians, and NATO. They tried very hard to make truce, but in the end defeated by the hard-core ones whom today we call Taliban. They are just having a laugh and joking by calling their friends a "terrorist". They don't really mean it and they don't understand the significance of how powerful the word "terrorist" is in the West. Unfortunately, as Americans, the American government has done and is doing a lot of awful things. They are basically saying that they would love for you to share the gift of Islam so that you can truly be one of their 'brothers'. This is a highly respectable comment amongst Muslims and should be received in good faith. The world right now is going through a battle of good vs evil and as Muslims, we are on the side of the good and we forbid evil.

While you were in Bamyan, did you visit the site where the Taliban, destroyed the two Buddha statues? The Buddha statues had been carved into the face of a cliff, and dated back to the 6th century. One was 180 feet tall and the other was 124 feet tall. The Taliban are very proud of this achievement. You should have seen the damage the Taliban did to the Herat Citadel, before UNESCO came in and restored it. I'm sure this is an adventure for you people but portraying the Taliban as friendly and normal people, is a disservice to the average Afghan who is suffering under their control.
This just reminds me of that one attack on titan episode where we all were taught to believe they are evil but when eren and the bois sat down with them they were the most friendly ppl on earth
