Motor Toon Grand Prix (モータートゥーン・グランプリ?) is a racing video game developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan (SCEJ). It was released for the PlayStation in Japan on December 16, 1994.The game is commonly confused with Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 which was released under the title Motor Toon Grand Prix in North America since the first game never left Japan.
Motor Toon Grand Prix was developed in-house at SCEJ and began production under the title "Poly Poly Circuit GP".The project was directed by Kazunori Yamauchi, who stated that it was the team's goal to create realistic driving simulation without distracting from the game's enjoyment. "Basically we're not trying to fake reality - I'd rather create the sensation of handling a remote control car but with the kind of dynamics that you'd expect from a real car," Yamauchi stated. "The cars' suspensions actually work - we've attempted to simulate the dynamic forces as they go around corners."Yamauchi's development group within SCEJ later formed Polyphony Digital, the company behind the realistic racing series Gran Turismo. The character designs in Motor Toon Grand Prix were done by Japanese artist Susumu Matsushita.

I want there to be an easter egg in Gran Turismo 7 where you find a hidden race that's an HD remaster of Motor Toon GP.
Childhood memories
Cool. I've never seen this game before, and it doesn't look bad at all. :)
Who is here because of Gran Turismo?
BOOOOOOOOMB!
Father mario kart!🤔
MK was released before for SNES
DanGanev ho yes 😁
Good tech demo in '94, crappy game in any year
gran turismo on acid and 50 gallons of hennessy LOL
Who cares, this is way more fun than Gran Turismo.
Xyloblast lol triggered
Doom Guy He said that cuz this is Polyphony Digital's second game.
I remember when it came out, I walked past it at the shops & was amazed at how fun & good it looked at the time.
It had the best graphics of any racing game available to me on release.
The style hold's up well, but it's a polarising game because it was so different to anything else available.
Ha. This comment was quoted in Donut Media's most recent episode of their Past Gas podcast about driving games from this era. Never heard of this game before but I wouldn't have guessed that grand turismo was basically "hidden within" this game under the skins that Sony figured would appeal to a larger audience than a straight up racing sim, which the creator of both games, Kazunori Yamauchi, wanted to make from the start but Sony feared a racing sim might be too boring so they had him make something to compete with Nintendo's Mario kart for the release of the playstation instead. And if you don't know, now you know..
My brother and me got the PS 1 for christmas back in 1994 and Motor Toon 2 was our first game. We just sat together and the christmas tree was shining and my brother and me played Motor Toon together and we were just so happy.
Gran Turismo for a 3 year old children.
Played this game so damn much as a kid, and i still remember some tricks from the game.
Like at 15:40 you can use the boot and jump over the chickens to get ahed of the rest by alot, and theres a few other places you can use the boot to take some advantages of the map :P
The first map kinda look like High Speed Ring...
Because it IS High Speed Ring. This is Polyphony Digital's first game.
Second. This game is actually a sequel, the first one never left Japan.
*High* Speed Ring...
Gran turismo was crazy back then
this was my favourite game growing up
Been looking for this game for ever huge nostalgia trip ha thank you!!!
this game would be gorgeous if it was remade in HD.
Maybe Polyphony want to consider a few car as a DLC on GT Sport, who knows? 🤷🏽♀
SONY needs to make a new one! This game was awesome!
Erm polyphony digital makes gran turismo series now
I am well aware, even from the first Motortoon that never released in the US.
@@webofhair If anything, they should make a Motor Toon Grand Prix HD that would have all the tracks from both games, as well as the mini-games from MTGP2.
Lord Yamauchi's adventure starts.
Nostalgia... Still play this to this day.
Do you still play it in 2022? I know I do.
I would if i still had it
this game is under classics in the PlayStation store if you have a ps3
Hey i am in the progress of marking an history Video about gran turismo and I wanted to ask if I can use this gameplay footage for an background in my video would you mind if I use this greetings from Germany
gran turismo on acid lol
The screenshot in the thumbnail shows a track REALLY similar to Grand Valley Speedway, in terms of layout.
My first game for PS1
Who’s here after playing Astro bot?
Astro Bot brought me here
This Is a classic hidden gem. Imo It's actually just as fun as Mario Kart and Crash Racing etc.
Fawkk YuTuu it as deffidently up there
Gran Turismo Prologue
Man the colors in this name were amazing . Played the shit outta this as a kid . Man I miss the 90s
miss this game
loved this game as a kiddo
I honestly think this game should be either remastered for PS4, or released just as it was for PS1 back in the days, for PS4, just so you can play it on PS4.
That’s how much I love this game.
It contains beautiful stuff that’s beautiful to see, and a really amazing soundtrack that is pure magic to hear, and have as MP3 files in the Music application of your smartphone.
We who know about this game are happy, honored and thrilled people who feel like we are in the land of dreams. 😊😊😇😇
EDIT:
And also, too bad this game is not available on the PS Classic console (2018). ☹️😞
Me too! This is my childhood game. I almost remember all the power ups, car, and the tracks! Miss it so mush.
Reynaldi Suwardi Wow! 😃
This game is very rare, and not many people know what it is, and I didn’t think anyone would like my comment or agree with me, so thank you so much for your like and reply, Reynaldi! 😊😊😊🤗
@@jfsoloasjd Yup. I thought it was so rare and not many people know about this game. Glad I am not the only! 😊
I didnt remember the title of this game, so I searched on google with keyword "crazy mushroom racing ps1" and then the title came out! Haha
Thank you for like and reply too! 😊
Reynaldi Suwardi 😊☺️
Reynaldi Suwardi Anyway, do you have the game Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled? 🙂
If so, wouldn’t it be great if they made a Motor Toon Grand Prix as a Grand Prix in that game, with the characters, karts and tracks from Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 in Nitro-Fueled?
And also Tank Combat and Submarine X as game modes in Battle Mode in Nitro-Fueled? 😊
i use to play this on my ps2 without a memory card
I always wanted to rent this everytime I got the chance to at blockbuster when i was like 5 or so. I loved the hell out of this game
to think that this is where Gran Turismo started, even down to the physics code, is pretty wild...
Gran Turismo before Gran Turismo
I fondly remember renting this a lot around the time Emperor's New Groove came out on VHS... dang I'm old lol.
This game has 3D graphics that impress by the year of its release (1994), already demonstrating power of the Sony Playstation 1- a newcomer.
Trivia:
At 0:31, the Opus Corp. was also being used in American Laserdisc Karaoke company United Karaoke, it is being called "Opus Licensing Inc.".
Played this game when I was a small toddler, the nostalgia is real. I really want to buy a playstation 1 just for this game. :P
Astro Bot brought me here. Crazy that Gran Tourismo started from this lol. Very cool
Motor Toon Grand Prix or Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 ???
The cutest game I ever played was this.loved it ❤️
man the AI was rubberbanding out of hell in this game. i rembember that the AI that started 3rd in the first map was your nightmare. you could drive like god himself, he always gave you a challange, one mistake in the highest difficulty meant: you're f'ed
Here's the origins of Auto Drive here at 2:44.
Motor Toon Grand Prix (1994)
Gran Turismo 7 (2022)
Lol this is literally high speed ring from granturismo. They just re used it and re modeled it a bit when they made the GT games
Nostalgic! My favorite game! Certainly you can do a shortcut in the crossing part of the third stage.
Yup. To make the shortcut it requires a jump power up.
1:36 that was definitely a reference to the movie psycho
заметьте на на братьях рапторах написано Аллах
Im sorry but that opening trailer was way ahead of its time
WOW, este juego me parece super bizarro, todo lo contrario a "tierno"
I lived in a small town most of my life up to a few years ago and in the late '90s you could rent PS1 games at the grocery store in town. We had a few movie/game rental stores in town but that was the only place in town that had this game available. Anyway, it's always crazy to see gameplay again!
Astrobot brought me here in 2024
The father of Gran Turismo.
pretty neat for an early PSX game
This was my favorite game for years growing up.
To be honest, as a child the game scared me just like nightmare creatures or sentinel. It's like Crash Team Racing, but one that hides a knife behind your back to hit you when you let your guard down.
You know... nothing has changed.
Cara amei os gráficos! Não preciso mais q isso!
Bolbox was my go to
i'm going to tell my children that this gran turismo ps1
Hey, isn't that High Speed Ring from Gran Turismo? 3:30
That's because this was Polyphony's first game before the Great Gran Turismo starts
The OG Gran Turismo 💎
It looks like the second episode.
From this to GT is wild
I had this game, how I liked.
and some people think that crash team racing was sony's first kart racer guess what it wasn't
This looks fun, im not going to lie. I only know about it because of that demo disc that had the trailer.
Go, go, go Motor Toon!
De lo unico que recordaba sobre este juego era algo referente a "Pinguin Bros" por que era el que siempre elegia. Pase buscando el nombre de este juego por aaaaañooooos. Que bueno que vi este video.
Exciting surprises, like secret characters!
I remember this game that for reasons to bully me by my big brother.
Este juego lo jugue en mi infancia. Es una lastima que este miedo olvidado
I had this game when I was a kid, and there was a time where I had to stop playing because I would have nightmares of being trapped in that world.
🤣💀
Why would you have nightmares about being trapped in the world of MotorToon Grand Prix? Are you afraid of losing your grip on reality?
@@alexk8792 I was 6 bro lol idk
@@PuppyMonkeyBabyy Ah.
Amazing graphics engine for a 1994 ps1 game
i miss my ps1
Wow
daaaamn... i missed out on this??? i remember a neighbor kid brought this game over wanting to play it. at the time i didn't even have a memory card... it refused to play unless i opened up i think it was 8 blocks... impossible! this game looks nice.
i just looked at the cover of the case on google, it says 1-15 blocks, however i remember the game whining that it wanted 8, lol... well thank goodness for emulators.
7 year old me played the absolute fuggggg out of this game
Memories
I remember getting this game as a rental back in the day
Very good graphics for ps1

Whose car literally looks like a Batmobile.
Used to love this game
my God the COLORS.
I remember playing this game when I was a kid. The graphics did not age very well though.
My god, and I thought Looney Tunes Racing was bad. O_o
Well, I'll be damned. They've come a long way.
Holy shit. I haven't seen this in 25+ years. I know this was posted long ago but thank you for this.
