That is a function of Congress, in a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate, lead by the current President of the Senate, generally the current Vice President.

Republicans have always one way or another tried to suppress the vote. Over the years all kinds of poll taxes have been thrown out. It would be great if all citizens had a photo ID. Everyone must call their local Voter Registration Office and check on the status of your vote regularly until November. Some states have changed their voting regulations. For example, if you have moved recently, you must re-register to vote, whereas before it was automatically done. And you won't know until you go to vote that you're not registered. Purging of votes for simple spelling mistakes. Check to make sure your name and address are spelled correctly. Don't let them take your vote away from you! If it wasn't important, they wouldn't be trying so hard to take it! VOTE!

I live in Georgia and they’re purging people off the voter roll. My husband and I check our status every 2 weeks to make sure we’re still active. So far, we’re still active.
I live in Georgia too...I've kept my party affiliation status as "republican"....to keep them from pucking with my vote. I use mail in ballot...gives me time to read it...I personally hand my sealed ballot at the county registrar office. 🇺🇸👍
I once thought the same, but now I'm not so sure. I'm coming to realize that the fragmented, decentralized nature of the USA electoral system may actually be a bulwark against corruption because it needs to be attacked across such a large number of separate 'cells'. If it were more homogenous / central in nature, it would be easier for bad actors to undermine or take over. Unfortunately, we are right now seeing such a broad spectrum attack on many 'cells' of the elections 'body'.

They're busy with FEDERAL crimes. The individual STATES are solely responsible for their own elections and each State differs slightly due to their existing rules. Having each State run independent elections greatly reduces the likelihood of systemic voting issues as well.

The last Republican I voted for was George Sr. I asked at City Hall when checking my registration if I should change to Democrat and they said no, doesn't matter. I am 70 and have never had an issue with my registration being purged.

There was a Rethuglicon back then, Paul Weyrich, who actively preached to rw leadership about getting more Americans not to vote as the "voter turnout goes down, Republicans chances of winning go up." (He said that in so many words.) Low voter turnout has been the American way since then. 2020, only 66% of eligible voters voted. 34%, 10s of millions of Americans didn't even bother and that election was considered to be "great turnout." To not even vote, you must be ignorant, lazy and pathetic as these same apathetic citizens refuse to do this simplest thing--just once time every 2-4 years. US has lowest voter turnout of any developed country in the world. We need to tax the f'g rich.
On the face of it, insisting on voter ID is a sensible step in a country of 330 million people where it is easy to move from one state to another and people forget to de-register from their last state before registering in their new state. The answer surely lies in government-issued ID (free or at minimal cost for photo) to every citizen who turns 18. If the US can pay 7 or 8 hundred billion per year for its military, why not spend a couple of billion on ID which would prevent some of these voter suppression antics? The next step is for voters to put in a ballot initiative to demand their state legislatures provide sufficient polling stations so that nobody has to wait it vote for longer than a half-hour and that there is federal protection against intimidation.
Some states have, and some are trying to, have automatic registration to vote with issuance of 18 yr old driver's license. Would have to be a special ballot issue in red trifecta states because Repubs/particularly Maga don't want others to have the same rights or the electorate to expand, especially to the youth. I thought this occurred via Shapiro in Penn, it was a battleground state. This is what could make such voter challenges/Purges into a law breaking practice as the licensing system is now so integrated so the bs claims for both could be easily debunked. Australia also has an automatic system in place from what I understand, there may be even an expectation that all citizens vote. This voting thing is still another thing that people in other countries shake their heads at, wondering what is wrong with the US. We are like the third world level of democracies - all because of the lying cheating Republi-cons. I'm Independent because I want a candidate to earn my support, but rarely have, and pretty much never now do they ever have any thing to offer. Certainly their "values" are Bunk, and their Friedman/Trickle down 'economic' theory (it actually has other previous names, always with the same intent - to benefit those with already enough. I'm beginning to consider the "commy/capitalist" blather is maybe more of a diversionary- devisive tactic so a con can be made) has been clearly shown to be a vehicle to subsidize the wealthy and to ever expand wealth inequality. Since 1945-1955 when the 'New Deal' expanded the 'middle-class' so quickly to its largest size, those hating to pay their fair share have developed all kinds of ways to privilege the already wealthy. By the 1960s the Repubs were turning that party into always the biggest deficit, crooked party. When Reagan got the 1st Heritage Foundation 'Mandate for "Leadership" in 1980, they have been making far more coordinated attempts re the "Powell 'memo'" etc. None of what Marc & Paige are talking about is Republican 'accidental' outcomes.

That is a function of Congress, in a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate, lead by the current President of the Senate, generally the current Vice President.

For example, if you have moved recently, you must re-register to vote, whereas before it was automatically done. And you won't know until you go to vote that you're not registered. Purging of votes for simple spelling mistakes. Check to make sure your name and address are spelled correctly. Don't let them take your vote away from you! I once thought the same, but now I'm not so sure. I'm coming to realize that the fragmented, decentralized nature of the USA electoral system may actually be a bulwark against corruption because it needs to be attacked across such a large number of separate 'cells'. If it were more homogenous / central in nature, it would be easier for bad actors to undermine or take over. All new voters need to register as Republicans even though they will vote Democrat. I would bet those registrations would not be purged.

@liztubs3838 Yes, so agree. I live in MI have been registered since I was 18 as a Republican. The last Republican I voted for was George Sr. I asked at City Hall when checking my registration if I should change to Democrat and they said no, doesn't matter. I am 70 and have never had an issue with my registration being purged.

There was a Rethuglicon back then, Paul Weyrich, who actively preached to rw leadership about getting more Americans not to vote as the "voter turnout goes down, Republicans chances of winning go up." (He said that in so many words.)
Low voter turnout has been the American way since then. 2020, only 66% of eligible voters voted. 34%, 10s of millions of Americans didn't even bother and that election was considered to be "great turnout."
To not even vote, you must be ignorant, lazy and pathetic as these same apathetic citizens refuse to do this simplest thing--just once time every 2-4 years.
US has lowest voter turnout of any developed country in the world.
We need to tax the f'g rich.
On the face of it, insisting on voter ID is a sensible step in a country of 330 million people where it is easy to move from one state to another and people forget to de-register from their last state before registering in their new state. The answer surely lies in government-issued ID (free or at minimal cost for photo) to every citizen who turns 18. If the US can pay 7 or 8 hundred billion per year for its military, why not spend a couple of billion on ID which would prevent some of these voter suppression antics? The next step is for voters to put in a ballot initiative to demand their state legislatures provide sufficient polling stations so that nobody has to wait it vote for longer than a half-hour and that there is federal protection against intimidation.

Some states have, and some are trying to, have automatic registration to vote with issuance of 18 yr old driver's license. Would have to be a special ballot issue in red trifecta states because Repubs/particularly Maga don't want others to have the same rights or the electorate to expand, especially to the youth. I thought this occurred via Shapiro in Penn, it was a battleground state. This is what could make such voter challenges/Purges into a law breaking practice as the licensing system is now so integrated so the bs claims for both could be easily debunked.
Australia also has an automatic system in place from what I understand, there may be even an expectation that all citizens vote.
This voting thing is still another thing that people in other countries shake their heads at, wondering what is wrong with the US. We are like the third world level of democracies - all because of the lying cheating Republi-cons. I'm Independent because I want a candidate to earn my support, but rarely have, and pretty much never now do they ever have any thing to offer. Certainly their "values" are Bunk, and their Friedman/Trickle down 'economic' theory (it actually has other previous names, always with the same intent - to benefit those with already enough. I'm beginning to consider the "commy/capitalist" blather is maybe more of a diversionary- devisive tactic so a con can be made) has been clearly shown to be a vehicle to subsidize the wealthy and to ever expand wealth inequality. Since 1945-1955 when the 'New Deal' expanded the 'middle-class' so quickly to its largest size, those hating to pay their fair share have developed all kinds of ways to privilege the already wealthy. By the 1960s the Repubs were turning that party into always the biggest deficit, crooked party. When Reagan got the 1st Heritage Foundation 'Mandate for "Leadership" in 1980, they have been making far more coordinated attempts re the "Powell 'memo'" etc.
None of what Marc & Paige are talking about is Republican 'accidental' outcomes.
@@ragauerk9310 Heather Cox Richardson the historian has shown in her various substacks that the communist label has been applied exactly as you mention, a diversionary tactic so that people won't notice the unfairness of how the economy has been run. I think people are beginning to get a clue about it though - hopefully - and that they will finally understand that the tax cuts for the wealthy are actually subsidised by the poor and middle class with higher food prices, higher rents etc.
