This gave me a great idea for a baritone guitar I bought on a whim last year. I haven't found anything that really strikes me with it yet. Thanks for the video!
Two possibilities suggested by a top string manufacturer are: 1) Gauges: .011, .014, .018, .028, .038, .049 Balanced for detuned setups, offering just the right tension for a drop to C# standard. 2) Gauges: .010, .013, .017, .030, .042, .052 *(hybrid set)* Slightly *lighter top* for solos but with *thicker bass strings* for punchier low notes.
I alternate between C# standard and drop B. Both offer really deep resonance and still has nice mids and treble. Not to mention you can play something really heavy or something really clean and it sounds good. I know that last statement sounds silly, but there are few tunings IMO that offer such versatility and the ability to do both so well.
Different tunings are another reason why I prefer a tele to a strat, and why I think it's a more versatile instrument, even though it appears not to be at the first glance. Although, my strat is permanently tuned down half a step because that just sounds better to me on a strat.
Sounds great! I "stumbled" on to C# tuning recently when I bought a guitar that was set up that way; heavier strings though. It sounds really great clean with the heavier strings. It is manageable, but definitely a workout for the hands! I like C standard a lot too, but C# has a more crisp tone.
As a long time fan of stoner and doom, I have done this for a long time. It never fails to sound like the most badass tuning ever! Nce video, but I have to respectfully disagree about not down tuning to C# or C with humbuckers. They just have to be low output vintage PAF style ones with more clarity than active/high output pups. Gives it that awesome growly tone. Listening to Tony Iommi or Josh Homme is a good point of reference for this.
I always play in Standard Tuning (strats in E#) and it never occurs to me to tune down a regular guitar til I pick up my baritone, and then I forget about it til the next time. I have plenty of extras so I'm making a pledge to move a couple down a few steps and spend some time experimenting with alternate tunings. (Just not the Robert Fripp one because it made me angry and insane last time). Excellent vid Sir!
I am a big fan of the Karnivool tuning. It is lowest B, F#, low B, G, high B, and E. Check out the track "Themata". Just huge sounding, interesting chords. Anyway, C# standard. It is said that Tony Iommi played this tuning with 9s or 10s. On a Gibson SG. So, that 24.75 scale, and then dropped down to C# standard? No wonder "Children of the Grave" sounds so good!
Aayyy, I’m a huge fan of Karnivool too! I’m actually working on making an 8 string version of their tuning, I’m thinking I’m going to do C# F# C# F# D F# B E so it’s Karnivools tuning in F# instead of B and I have the extra high E and low C# strings
I sometimes do these experiments, but i have to set truss rod too. On my 52 tele it is not so easy and fast, i do it with another tele. I agree about chose single coil pickup for these tuning if you still want to rest defined
You're not the first to make that joke at one of his videos. But I really wish you wouldn't. The only similarity is the curly hair. Zuck is evil and a narcissist. Joey is cool.
Nah. E. :D But seriously tho, different tunings works for different songs, and some songs can sound very nice even in different tunings depending on the singer at the moment.
Must try that tuning. Sound alot like what this danish band uses ruclips.net/video/jH_Lh5zYBzg/видео.htmlsi=YBU6lyTzVUBngT-K ruclips.net/video/GvfFCXtsJQ8/видео.htmlsi=tu60o0Ogs2_dswAA
The jam at 5:20 mins you should definitely turn into a song. I love Shady Belle.
Totally agree!!! You have great taste!!!
As a lefty myself, it is sooo disconcerting to watch another lefty play. I can't wait to try this tuning! Thank you for sharing the video

C# is probably gonna be too high for baritone, definitely use lighter strings
Its funny seeing a guy make robin Tower faces while sitting like that
I’ve got guitars in drop C, D5, Eb, E and C# and I love how mello but dark it sounds

I can vouch for #1. Very balanced tone. Of course, a bit more difficult to do big bends than with lighter guage on top.

Thanks Joey, that answers my question regarding the tuning for "Rise Again"........🙂
Sounds so rad, I love it. 🤘

No fair!
You let the cat out of the bag about my favourite new timing!
It’s awesome!
Damn man. That jam was amazing. I hope it gets turned into something longer. Nice job!
I Love Rise Again. Brilliant song Joey!
i just recently did and its the best thing ever!!! everything just sounds perfect
Since I bought your tab, I play this riff on my Baritone guitar in B standard! Sounds great!
great!
you look like you are having so much fun playing that it makes it fun to watch you. Then i want to play guitar too.
That’s the intention. Hoping to be a source of inspiration for all of you. ❤️

That's so sickkkkk 🤯🤯🤯
While we’re all at it, try putting 7s on for E standard if you want that insane fast and easy playing feel without down tuning.

Some Andy Timmons vibe. Love it brother ❤
I love 11s on my Tele and Strats and I can still bend the shit out of my notes. Just love the 11's
Trooper. 🤘🏻

D standard, P90's, .011's. 🤘

@matthewbehrle4428 , that sounds interesting.
I ADORE Karnivool. Sound Awake is one of my favs albums.
Shoot, I totally forgot about them! I have two of their CD’s too, Themata and Sound Awake. Time to go down the rabbit home again!
@@IGrocker, I would buy their latest, *Assymetry*, as well. It is like a mix of their other two, sound-wise.

Beast
i prefer "D-standard" tuning seems to be the "sweet spot" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :)
What's the name of the track at 0:24? It's amazing!!!
"NEVERENDER" by my band Shady Belle. You can find it on all streaming services.
@@joeyjooones Thank you!
Teles always sound good low for some reason
Could you try the tim Henson ernie ball new signature 9.5s down tuned like this?
Mark Zuckerberg's got the chops.

It's nice to see how you just forget yourself in jamming! 🙂
IMHO it's the 2nd best, number 1 being Drop C#. With 9 - 42 strings, of course.
I’m a drop C# guy too, I use 11-52’s though.
Pretty sure Tony Iommi played loooots of sabbath songs in C# standard
Must try that tuning. Sound alot like what this danish band uses
