I'm assuming you heal up after the fight but keep your food, so the thought process was probably that it would be ideal to win without using extra food since then he has more food available to use in the future and the same amount of health either way. Obviously that didn't turn out so well in reality, but it is a reasonable line of thought in many similar situations.
@@TheSquareOnes There's a camp after the boss, so while it's not a full top off, you do heal 15% of your health. It does make more sense to eat though especially if your health is below the Boss' minimum attack damage.
He had an ability that made his diamonds +3. The number next to his deck shows his total. I agree thats its not the easiest to parse at a glance so I can see how he missed it.

Every character has a different power to use with the energy, while the knight (which he played this game) has a very powerful power to use, it’s starting equipment is fairly bad so it balances out

the first boss is supposed to be a gate. if you cant beat him, you would've died later anyways. you have to either be able to deal, enough damage through the block, block/tank hits from him, or make him not do either of those things
The production value of the game is horrendous and it looks like a game that might've come pre-installed with Windows 98. But the gameplay is actually really dope, and I say that as someone who ordinarily does not enjoy most card-based games. It took a few turns, but I totally warmed up to it, seems fun and speedy!
