When that was active though, simply standing near the face would also cause heat damage to you, which didn't happen here, so that's probably not what was happening.

I think I know what happened with that temporal mantle not triggering on radobaan - the hp was getting chipped so it wasn't meeting the threshold that would trigger the mantle's effects, it looks like. That said, they should've gotten flattened that close up to begin with
