  • @andrebrait
    @andrebrait 9 месяцев назад +3

    Even if you ignore the fact the devices always negotiate the lowest common denominator (device power and charger max power), the devices also vary what they ask from the charger based on their own charge!
    For example, a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will charge at 45W only until a given percentage. After that, it charges slower, to preserve the battery and reduce heat output.
    That's why it takes about the same time to charge it with a 25W charger as it does to charge it with a 45W one, with the difference being mostly on the first couple dozen battery percentages.

  • @maxk4324
    @maxk4324 2 года назад +10

    Power draw is determined primarily by the device being charged, not the charging block. The Wattage listed on the charger is just how high it can go before frying.

  • @JustinEmlay
    @JustinEmlay 2 года назад +477

    More people need this so they look at it and wonder why they are seeing the numbers they are seeing. This will force them to educate themselves on POWER PROFILES. Just because a power source is 90W, doesn't mean you can get 90W even if your device supports 90W! There has to be a compatible profile for it to talk to. An amazing example of this is Apple's 90W charger. You would think getting an iPad Pro and paring it with their 90W adapter would be awesome, right? WRONG! The iPad has no compatible profile for it. In fact I think it maxes out around 60W but even better than that is you will NEVER get 60W out of that 90W adapter because it has no compatible 60W profile for the iPad Pro, THEIR OWN PRODUCT! I've been able to get 60W into my iPad Pro from an Anker adapter but nothing from Apple, not even their 60W adapters. So all those people buying larger Apple adapters for their iPads....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
    Keep in mind, all this info comes from iPad Pro 2nd Gen. I've not look at it since then since my Anker gives me max power. Hell, even my 12V Anker adapter in my truck gives me more power than any of Apple's adapters that I tested!

    • @MaximNightFury
      @MaximNightFury 2 года назад +33

      So what you're saying is Apple power adapters are shit and you should go third party?

    • @JustinEmlay
      @JustinEmlay 2 года назад +38

      @@MaximNightFury I wouldn't really say that. They are designed well for their laptops. iPad owners certainly need to stop buying them for iPads and I most certainly would not buy them as general use adapters around the house.

    • @JustinEmlay
      @JustinEmlay 2 года назад +27

      Luckily more and more companies started putting all the various profiles their chargers support on the product itself. But the missing part are devices listing their own profiles to which you are charging. It doesn't help if my charger lists all it's profiles but my iPad doesn't list what it supports. If they did it would be super easy to match things up.
      For those people that don't know what a power profile is...look at your charger and find text that looks like 5V2A. That's 5 volts at 2 AMPs which equals 10 Watts. So that charger can do exactly that. Some chargers will show you many different profiles.
      Something I noticed in the past, the smaller the charger, the fewer profiles it supports. That seems to be slowly going away.

    It's all about power profiles, that's why you need to be sure about the adapter you buy for your devices, otherwise you'll never be able to actually charge at full capacity

    I own many of these... TBH they start to get kinda sketchy after 6 months of use. I've had some where the LED stopped working outright and at least one doesn't work at all. That aside, They rock for general trouble shooting items that might/might not work....
