That Magnus and Mortarion also grew up on Chaos worlds had already thrown this theory out. Plus Perturabo through intellect and intuition knew there were malevolent forces that existed in the Eye of Terror. And yes again I'm aware he didn't know exact details.
Truthfully it wouldn't make any sense for the Emperor to tell Johnson, Magnus or Mortarion as they were already aware of Chaos and the dangers it held. So if it wasn't Horus it had to be Sanguinius could neither Guilliman or Dorn knew at this point. It also wouldn't have made any sense to tell any Primarch that I haven't listed as they would have been completely in the dark. Jaghatai and Perturabo knew through exceptional intuition. Plus we have no way of knowing how many of the Primarchs Malcador may have told. By their conversation he wasn't surprised Jaghatai knew so either Jaghatai guessed correctly at an earlier date or Malcador told him. The later seems highly unlikely as this was their first time meeting.

What I loved about the Khan’s meeting with Malcador is that Malcador is saying exactly what the truth is - using a lie. Humanity was not ready to deal with the warp. Not in any way, but least to deal with its temptation. It reminds me of Oppenheimer’s quote after the Trinity test: I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. A necessary evil or a power play? Good and evil are rarely so obvious. What the god-emperor does is morally grey, even wrong, but I don’t doubt his intentions. The simple truth of 40k’s galaxy is that it was always brutal, brutal long before the emperor was created, long before humans even evolved. The Necrontyr, the C’tan, the Eldari, even the Old Ones destroyed entire civilizations and had day-to-day death, brutality, and violence in spades.
There’s a portion of 40k’s community that really can’t wrap their minds around it. To these sweet summer children, if only the Emperor was a kindly old dad who called his sons ‘sport’ and played catch with them after school, the galaxy would be a peaceful, heavenly place. We can harshly judge the emperor, because every moral issue is always looked at in a vacuum. We can play Monday morning quarterback easily.
Malcador explained it so simply: survival means playing hardball. Sometimes it means making decisions that suck, and mistakes are costly. Sometimes it means the few get a bad turn in order to safeguard the many. This scene is where the Khan starts to realize the truth of what it requires for humans to survive at all. Because at the end of the day, as bad as the Imperium is, as awful as the conditions of life are in it, it is a miracle there is any life at all. The universe- in 40k or in our own - is not a friendly place, and damn does it ever want to kill you.

I feel that Vulkan is everything that Jaghatai fails to see in the Emperor, the humanity and care for the average citizen that Vulkan is known for combined with the fact he is the only primarch that didn’t want to be a warlord or general would make for an interesting combination with Jaghatai’s views explained here.

I think they Khan represents the emperor's freedom and independence. The emperer has forgotten since he devoted his life in service and preservation of mankind. At any moment in history the emperor could have walked away from it all, but has bound him self literally to the fate humanity.
This begs the question, was the emperor "free" at any point? Since his birth and past lives he has always been meant to be the protector of man. Maybe when he created the Khan it was like a father giving his child something which he never truely had. Maybe this why the Khan during the heresy the Khan never picked a side until the he found the reason for it him self on Prospero.

My favorite bit from that passage from that bit: 'I have heard this before,' the Primarch said. 'There were empires on my home world that offered freedom to their slave castes, but only when they were ready. That moment, strangely enough, never came. In the end they had to take it for themselves, to die for it, and even then there were some who said the day had come too soon.' He looked back at the Sigillite. ' The Truth will come out. You won't be able to hold the blindfold in place, and once it slips, the fury of those you deceived will be limitless.'
Jaghatai doesn't come to understand the "necessity," of the Imperial Truth, he comes to understand that there's no point in arguing. Just like I haven't come to understand the "necessity" of the DMCA, but I have come to understand that there's no point in arguing because it's not going to change.

The Khan is a complete mystery to everybody because he says EXACTLY what he means, in a universe where everybody tries to attach a deeper meaning to their words.
In a way, he confounds everyone because not only does he not play by the same rules as everyone else, he doesn't even seem to know that there are rules in the first place.
He genuinely isn't trying to be mysterious and dissembling, but nobody seems to grasp that.
Contrast to Alpharius, who goes out of his way to be mysterious, understands the rules better than anyone and tries to bend them into a pretzel.

The Imperial Truth was necessary, because Chaos isn't something you can "solve," and if you know about Chaos, you start seeing it everywhere: every brothel, every political party, all mention of duels and honorable combat, every fringe political party or scholarly tradition...all of them, and more, can give rise to cults that can threaten entire worlds. Yet, to address Chaos, you need to create a system of such horrible oppression that no Primarch would willingly agree to see it made. Each one would try though, and each would offer a different "solution" stemming from their own experience, and each one would be flawed in ways they couldn't see, because they needed experience with it that they simply lacked.
It would come down to "blindly trust the Emperor while he's creating the most oppressive regime in history," and that just means giving them even *more* reason to turn traitor. All the Emperor could do was buy time, and hope the Primarchs would eventually come to understand the danger as they fought Chaos fueled powers in the Crusade.

I’m not sure if the Imperial Truth was necessary or that it would have worked in the end.
For starters, the Imperial Truth was a lie, and the Emperor embodied said lie. His size, powers, and even charisma were all because he is and was a living god in human flesh.
And while I can understand that much like a child, you don’t go into great details about the true darkness of the world…to lie and cover up it’s existence is a mistake. Especially when the darker truths do end rearing their ugly head. Because how do you fight against something you were told doesn’t exist? Especially as doubt, anxiety, and fear creeps in as you lose faith in one you thought would never lead you astray.
I think it would have been better if the Emperor had explained and instilled in all a humanity greater intuition of how to recognize and resist Chaos…rather than deny it’s existence. All this happened because of that, and that the Imperial Truth is an Imperial Lie that would uphold as humanity spread across the galaxy.
While I understand what the Emperor was trying to do and avoid, it ultimately backfired tremendously for pretty clear reasons.
Uriah of the Last Church of Terra realized and warned The Emperor about this in his final moments, yet the Emperor refused to listen. Yet even while he decried gods and being one, The Emperor played and acted as a god all the while. Even killing more people and committing more atrocities then the zealous, religious crusades he condemned.
This isn’t to say The Emperor Of Mankind is incompetent, but highlights the fact that even the most intelligent and skilled are not immune to making catastrophic errors. Especially when they look at the bigger picture of without considering the details (AKA individuals and their own agency) who compose said bigger picture.
IMHO, it would have been better if he had embraced the role instead. Especially since it’s implied he directly influenced most of mankind’s religions.

Can you even tap into the Immaterium without ever touching Chaos ? Then how did he do it and why isn't the method widespread? The answer to those question brings the validity of the Imperial Truth as a strategy into question.

It also means until Jaghatai united the various clans it was in a constant state of war. And after he would have to deal with rebellions. Jaghatai has not had easy life by any stretch. You are thinking of Primarchs like Guilliman and Fulgrim.
You sound like one of those simpletons that think ONLY Chaos presents any kind of danger at all. News flash feral, feudal and eco-trashed planets are just as dangerous and just as harsh. The danger is simply different.

So 2 things stand out to me.
1st. The Emperor is supposed to possess traits that all the Primarchs have, but I've always wondered about alpharius and omegon. The Emperor doesn't have a twin. Or does he, or will he. A twin that already died, a twin that will exist in the warp and he on this plane. Or is malcador the Emperor's omegon as the Khan almost puts in as a suggestion. Could it be malcador is the Emperor's twin mimicking the deceit of alpharius and omegon. Deceit that the Emperor and malcador and the Emperor perform for the betterment of mankind, that also maybe even the alpha legion does.
    2. Everything malcador says is always told 2nd hand. If the Emperor really has sacrificed and done so much and given up so much, why not tell these things to the Primarchs but it seems as though he has not shared one thing with any of the Primarchs, he tells them nothing. Malcador knows more because he can handle more?!? Whatever. I think if malcador knows more and is speaking the truth, its only because he is part of and connected to the Emperor by more than just friendship. Other than that he could be just as deceived as anyone. The only truth malcador knows is what the Emperor tells him. The Emperor is really the only one that knows anything and he can paint the canvas anyway he chooses, to malcador and anyone else. When the Emperor went into the warp and came out more powerful and with the knowledge of how to create the Primarchs... Only the Emperor knows what happened and what was said. The Emperor and the chaos gods. The Emperor could tell malcador anything he wanted. I will say this... The Emperor came out of the warp just as powerful on a grander scale, just like Horus did.
"The Truth known to only one man is just as good as a lie never spoken"

    • @magnusmaximus1415
      @magnusmaximus1415 4 года назад

There a reason malcador know more than the primarch, it's because he can not be corrupted by the chaos.
Many 'loyalist' and 'traitor' primarch can have a very different role in the great game, that the case for the lion and jaghatan, at one point of the great crusade, they go to the warp gate on moloch with horus and fulgrim to be presented to the chaos god by the emperor. 4 primarch for 4 god.
Another exemple is mortarion, where in a game of prediction to know what better hand the emperor can have against chaos, he stay loyal to the imperium in the predecents sets and was supposed to stand, when the emperor see that he changed his loyalty, the god emperor was saddened.
So it's not so strange that the emperor say nothing to his sons, any primarch can betray him until the heresy happen.
An exemple of that, was when the lion after seizing powerfull weapon of siege from open traitorious legion give them to perturabo, who later use them on terra.

@@magnusmaximus1415 but we will never know if those that betrayed the Emperor betrayed him because they were kept ignorant in the 1st place and would the ones that remained loyal have remained loyal if they had known the truth.
I rather an ugly truth any day over a pretty lie.
About Malcador... He can be corrupted. There is actually no such thing as being uncorruptible. All the stuff talking about anyone cant be corrupted is just part of the 40k fluff propaganda. There are hints that even grey Knights can be corrupted if you read their codex and then go back and read it again. And the grey knights are made from the Emperor's own gene seed. Which hints at the fact that even the Emperor himself could be corrupted under the right circumstances. Their is no incorruptibility, just more highly resistant to chaos than others. The Emperor is just more resistant than everyone else. The Emperor in a conversation with Malcador among all the betrayals happening even actually asks Malcador if he has listened to the whispers chaos, cause the Emperor even knows that Malcador as powerful and as resistant to chaos as he is, isnt more powerful and not beyond corruption from the the chaos gods either.

    • @magnusmaximus1415

      @@leatherjacket9
nah, they were corruptible, not because the emperor kept his mouth shut about the chaos god, but because of their own reason.
the reality is much more worse than a dark stranger with many sweet and promise who manipulate you into is dark scheme, you need to remember for what kind of reason each traitor betray the imperium :
angron betray the imperium because he wanted to die like a slave onto his planet, and because the emperor save his ass, he wanted the imperium to crumble and he begin with his own son with a little chip...
perturabo betray because he feel that emperor sama and the imperium doesn't recognize him and all his effort to be a great warlord when he spent his son and allies live into the war meatgrinder like money.
alpha betray because the only thing he wanted was to destroy the chaos god, so he know what kind of danger it is, at the cost of humanity.
conrad kurze betray because he wanted to punish the imperium for the grimdark future he help to create in the first place so the snake bite his own tails.
mortarion betray because the emperor, for what we know, remind him his foster dad on barbarus.
lorgar betray because he wanted a god to worship, and the emperor refuse him that.
and you need to remember that is canon that there are people who can resist the temptation of chaos, ferrus manus and his many clones never bent to the will of chaos god, the lion even when a duke of changes wanted to corrupt him, sanginus accept his own death and the damnation of his own legion even after he saw a future where his legion are uncursed, malcador can hear the whisper, but it's doesn't meant that he accept to obey them, you need to remember that he stay loyal to the emperor, and the grey knight are the few who stay pure in their fight against the great enemy.
so yeah, there are people who can be corrupt, even a demigod, but not always because they believe into the lies of the chaos, but by their own reason even when fully know what chaos god are (many heretic inquisitor can state that), and you need to remember that not all people are corruptible, if not, there a long time ago that the imperium of man fell under the boot of chaos god to lick it.
