    What you aren't including are the new seats in the house in 2024. There are court cases right now, about district maps in several states. Long atory short. If the predicted new black voting districts are created, and they are almost there, there will be 15 to 18 new "blue" districts but only 5 new red districts. So, if you can do simple math, that means between 10 and 13 NEW BLUE SEATS in the House. Some of these cases went to the supreme court who sent them back to the states and said to redraw their maps.

    Why is there only two parties in the fedaral and state legislarures in the US?In a lot of European countries there are so many parties that a coalition is a must to form gov't.

    • @panachevitz
      @panachevitz 7 месяцев назад +4

      It is incredibly difficult to create a national party in the US so most attempts at a 3rd party fizzle out either due to being a one-issue platform or the inability to appeal to a wider audience for whatever reason. There are more Democrats or Republicans than there are people in Germany, and there is a lot of inertia in the system because of that. In the states, there is more variety and smaller parties can elect some people to office, but it is a very hard task to create recognition for your platform, get voters to vote for you, and grow a party.

    • @brentswells
      @brentswells 7 месяцев назад +3

      One simple reason: the winner take all voting structure. Whoever gets the most votes a congressional district (or state for the Senate or President) gets the whole thing and no other party gets anything out of it. Even if they got millions of votes. European parliamentary democracies don't ignore those other votes. Parties get representation proportional to how many votes they got, which allows small parties to exist.
