Located near Gatlinburg, TN, the Pigeon River is the 3rd most popular whitewater rafting destination in the United States!
We booked our adventure with Smoky Mountain Outdoors and had an awesome experience! Our guide was experienced and the rapids were tough, but not too difficult that a 1st timer (like ourselves) can't conquer.
This video shows the Upper (or the "Big") Pigeon River, which offered an exciting "6.5 mile raft trip down class 3 and 4 rapids through the heart of the Smoky Mountains."

is this the Upper Pigeon river or Lower pigeon river ride?
This is the Upper Pigeon river ride. The Lower Pigeon is a MUCH calmer ride.
My Husband wants us to do this next month but I highly doubt it no way I’m doing that he can but I won’t.
I think you’ll have great time if you do decide to go! We had someone in our party that was terrified to go and who isn’t a strong swimmer and she had a blasted (and has gone rafting 3 more times since)! Also, it was our first time rafting and the guides did a great job of making sure everyone was safe and knew what to do in case of an emergency. The rapids are distanced far enough apart that you’ll have plenty of time to just relax on the water without being overwhelmed with all the action. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns because it’s definitely an experience worth having.
I have been forced to go here and I would do anything not to go.
😂 It is all but guaranteed that you’ll have a great time. One of the members of our party was 150% against the idea, but ended up having a blast (and has been on a few more rafting trips since then)!
The rafting guides are awesome, and will definitely take care of you. What are some of your concerns?
