"Word of mouth" should be number 8. If you keep your customers/leads/prospects happy, under promise and over deliver, they will start recommending you to their friends, family, etc. Nothing builds more trust than a recommendation from a friend/loved one :)
The shift from focusing on sales funnels to "trust funnels" is such a refreshing take. The idea that trust, not aggressive tactics, is the foundation for sustainable sales feels so much more aligned with how relationships and businesses should work. It really stands out how simplifying the process-removing unnecessary complexity-makes selling not just easier, but more authentic. I love how you broke down the seven trust-building vehicles and ranked them by speed. The distinction between each method, from ads to live presentations, made it clear that the real goal isn't to chase numbers but to connect meaningfully with the right people. The emphasis on trust building over vanity metrics really hit home-so much less pressure to be "everywhere" all at once. The storytelling hack was brilliant too. Sharing client transformation stories subtly plants the seed of possibility for others, without feeling pushy or salesy. It’s such a natural way to communicate value. The reminder to optimize for trust rather than perfection in marketing tactics really shifts the mindset from "selling" to serving. This approach makes business feel less transactional and more personal.
I've been working in sales since I was 8 years old, I'm 51. I started selling on the streets and ended up in international sales for large corporations. One thing I can say, the best deals I've done have been because of my clients' trust in me. You made the best video I've been waiting for years for someone to talk about!
This is one of the best presentations about anything by anyone I have ever seen on RUclips. It has rich content, much wisdom, and pure gold. Thank you so much.
I livestream on RUclips every week. I nurture people in my Facebook group. I have a book, a membership, and 1:1 services. I’ve had people join my program or book my services from both. Without even selling most of the time. 😊 Love the video Graham! ❤

I loved this..I think the online marketing community forgot what it meant to provide value, everything feels like a trick and you begin to feel nasty trying to rick someone else. Graham I think your course was the only one that preaches building a real audience. and you flat out say "this may take a little while" but you are honest and its still holds true. The time is going to pass regardless so you might as well spend it providing value and building trust. Your future self will thank you.
I think you've nailed it. Information hasn't been valuable for quite a while now, and even "wisdom" or "guidance" or coaching is so plentiful that by itself, it's not worth much. But to find someone you can really TRUST is rare, and whatever is rare is usually also valuable.
This is great to hear. I’m with you in keeping things simple and transparent. I have one simple membership to my metal guitar platform and you can opt in monthly or annually. That’s it. I do offer a free practice guide - this is my way to encourage folks to get my free stuff first (and I encourage them to watch my RUclips videos - this builds that trust) to see if we’re a right fit before jumping into my membership.
Wow, this is liberating. It also clarifies what it means to have or build a product or service that “sells itself.” Let the stories, relationships, and value do the selling so all you have to do is casually mention your offer to make sales. If the casual offer doesn’t work, improve the stories, relationships, and value, not the pitch. Thank you. 🙏
Wow. Yes. I think the real fear of putting yourself out there is the guaranteed criticism you will receive, but the criticisms don’t matter if what you are doing is picking up more customers or clients and earning the trust of the critics that matter.
This was great! I listened to it twice! I have struggled with the sales funnel concept. Building a trust funnel resonates with me so much more. Your alternate perspectives of business concepts have been a game changer for me over the past year since I discovered you. Thank you!
Thanks sirrrrrrr. This is soooooo refreshing to hear because I’ve been struggling with this sales funnel thing for a while now because it doesn’t tally with my personality and temperament.
This is for me. I have been debating this and trying to understand how to get rid of bad business strategiea..this has helped me soooooo much. I feel like God sent this to me.
Funnels never did feel right to me done in the traditional way. I learned the basics but told myself I would never script the bs that they put out there. Thank you for the reminderthat there was never anything wrong with my business instincts😊 I've always been a full integrity kinda girl and disgusted at the tactics businesses would use to maximize their profits and forgetting the big picture of the lifelong raving fans/clients they could have. I used to have a brick and mortar business that had the best reputation and staff in the city. Now shifting online in a new realm the past few years. mine is social media currently but I integrate my writing in it and use a secondary platform to share my writing as well. As I'm sitting here relaxed from your confirmation of what I've already been feeling for years, the neurons are firing for fine tuning my message...it's been stuck for a few years feeling scattered and confusing... like a missing piece you feel can never be found. Timing is everything. I think you just indirectly helped me find my missing piece🙏🏻🧡
TYSM Graham!!! I've been learning SEO from Sarah Moon who speaks from this exact same anti-fluff, mature-organic marketing approach that I appreciate so much. My heart literally smiled when you said "Trust Funnel" .. I said, "That makes so much more sense for us service-provider / spiritually dominant personal brands that struggled to find language and mentors to teach us how to capture, organize, and articulate our thoughts." This Trust Funnel approach supports a mantra I tell myself often, "A when is still a win. Keep building." - Can't wait to hear how you'll expand upon this concept to help us solopreneurs sculp our pivot into this new frame of thinking.
That was great Graham. My first video of yours. I'm a CPA, and already used to building trust. But in the past year I've been struggling to become our firm's first ever marketing partner, and a lot of the advice I've been listening to (RUclips specific) makes me feel fake, cheap, and boring. You've provided a glimmer of hope up be reflecting on before 2025, and I'm feeling hints of reinvigoration.
GREAT presentation, for me is blogging and video or live video. I´m a Tarot mentor and am using a complex sales funnel, I really hate it! I love simplicity. You just got a new subscriber to your channel and newsletter 😊🎈
You nailed it.. well said and explained. You’re talking about the Business Development lifecycle. Continuing Education > Networking (how may I help you?) > Marketing > Sales. The first two stages are about building trust.
TRUST FUNNEL! I FREAKIN LOVE IT, GRAHAM!! TYSM!! I HATE THOSE SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES ! I TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME IN MY SHOWS!!! TYSM!!!!! I TRUST YOU !
Thank you for this. I really like calling this the Trust Funnel instead of the Sales Funnel. That is exactly what I have been doing but never had a name for it. Keep throwing down your wisdom. You are truly making a difference in so many lives.
This video caught my eye because something rang true about it. I’ve literally said as a retail manager years ago, you can make a sale or a customer… I prefer customers. They have trust and will return.
This resonates so strongly. I'm currently at a conference and hoping to make lots of new connections so doing the in person one sort of. My simple email newsletter is loved. I can't quite believe it but people look forward to it! You are reassuring and inspiring me that I am on the right track. This is why I am so grateful that you appeared before I even started my business. You have a knack for distilling information ☺️
This is so important to my brand. I sell emf protection and the first question anyone asks is: how do I know it works? So I've never run fb ads that have converted.
I step away for a little while and then come back and suddenly Graham is talking about ads, and social media? What happened?! Graham was always the "grow your business with content marketing only" guy!
Man, I wish I heard this before building those funnels 😅 which took weeks! This process makes me feel more wholesome because I felt icky with the "wait there's more" approach. And I really just wanna help folks. So I'm switching to the trust funnel approach. Thanks for this video!!

Fantastic vid thanks. Quick question, what kind of lighting setup and camera do you use for your videos? I really enjoy your setup and background.
My latest video I just did in one take on first try with no editing. Most of them I edit more, but I noticed there wasn't much editing in your videos. I'm hiring an editor, so I need to determine the best way to keep things flowing without folks losing interest. Appreciate the video as always!
Great video! I can't help but think that I would like you on my team :-) Marketing is hard and going back to in person meetups vs chasing a million fans makes a lot more sense for a. serious business.
Beginner level marketing advice. And I disagree with paid traffic as slowest and not to focus on views or subscribers. Also... A lead magnet that gives actual value builds trust and your list.
Thank you again Graham! As podcast hosts, our guests are often selling or offering something which we tend to point to at some point in the podcast. That's part of their incentive to join the podcast - to put their offer in front of a larger audience. So, the initial thought comes up that says my audience is always going to be buying my guest's offerings. But, am I correct in assuming that as I am building trust with each podcast, I then make my offers more "periodically" and NOT as part of the podcast? What vehicle would I use to make my offer if my podcast is for building trust and introducing my audience to my guest's offers?
Hey thanks Graham just on that trust funnel thing what if you never learnt funnels and social media adds and landing pages, email capture etc. If you haven come up through that school how do you know when or even how to sell a product?
Trust Funnel... (simplify, simplify, simplify), ...right Graham? I had fun watching this video, as I was trying to guess the next one before you said it. I was certain Email was going to be on the list, but maybe it's a given, because of your #2. For 2025, I'll be going with #3. #5. and #6 (and maybe, #4, by default). I feel they all complement one another very well. Thanks again, Graham.
This is true and my daughter seeing me struggle to build an on-line business from all my three decades of content said, "Mom, you just have to market seminars in front of people. What about email as a trust funnel? I do blogs, live in person, and video. Love the focus on building a trust funnel. I need to develop a more focused strategy. Thanks!
Oh my, bruh! 😮 Why is this so simple?! Trust Funnel. Not Sakes Funnel. Why haven't i heard it this way before?! Us newbs are always just following the word of the experts and trying to duplicate the latest ses funnel process. But then it doesn't work for us. Why? Bc we don't feel comfortable selling. Why didn't I see that I was doing this? I mean my whole program is the same thing for people that need to personally sell something but can't bc the typical sales method and salesy. This is perfect. Thanks for the mindedt shift Grahm. 🎉
Hey Graham. Can you clarify when and within which vehicle do we make our offers, if the vehicle is mainly about building trust. If a Blog is about building trust, does that same blog get used as the vehicle for making offers? If so, what's the ratio of how often I make an offer within the vehicle that is primarily about building trust? I think I"m slightly confused about the artful blend of building trust and making offers.
While it is true that building trust is a key factor for any type of business, it is not as "simple" as you put it here. This is branding, but there's a whole pack of variables attached to the selling process such as offer, convenience, pricing, competition, particular audience consumer behavior, adequate channels, span of attention for a particular niche and so many others that I could cite. What you are mentioning here is important, but it is not an either or thing. How would you know the best combination of media if you don't have metrics to support it? Maybe you are doing well on RUclips while you could do great on Pinterest. If this was the ultimate "thing" why bother with new things? I mean, we would still be buying the same trustworthy stuff from the 50's. Just a thought from a long time marketer here 😊
Hate sales Funnel pitches. Huge waste of time. "But wait, there's more! You get $150,000 worth of ..... for just $1999 if you buy in the next 5 1/2 minutes.
I wonder what Natalie Ellis would have to say in response to your video given she’s made 8 figures from creating a sales funnel and what she teaches is fantastic
Didn't say sales funnels don't work (they do) just that I don't think the way we are doing them is needed anymore. Natalie is brilliant and hopefully she likes the way she's running her business.
@@GrahamCochrane I would be curious to hear how this would affect your own "5 Day Email Sequence" PDF which I have been using for my ebook (Just filmed and edited my first course!). It builds trust and over-delivers, but does sound a bit sales-ey sometimes. Would you still use it? Or is that now outdated?
@@PlayBetterJazz I would also like to know Graham's take on the 5 email sequence, in which he also states to make the "pitch" by day 3. Should we ditch the 5 day sequence in favor of a new approach?

I mean, we would still be buying the same trustworthy stuff from the 50's. Just a thought from a long time marketer here 😊
Hate sales Funnel pitches. Huge waste of time. "But wait, there's more! You get $150,000 worth of ..... for just $1999 if you buy in the next 5 1/2 minutes.
Building A Trust Funnel
Selling:
- Helps people
- Keeps you in business (pays your bills, provides for your family and employees)
@@PlayBetterJazz I would also like to know Graham's take on the 5 email sequence, in which he also states to make the "pitch" by day 3. Should we ditch the 5 day sequence in favor of a new approach?
perfect timing as we finish planning for 2025
I'm surprised at how little editing this video has. Is not editing videos part of this new trend?
Good because I am getting tired of funnels lol
