Hi Chris. I think that I will really enjoy this series. I really appreciate your focus on safety! Explaining what being safe really means, and not just saying 'be safe ya all'. I say this since I had been playing with an NTS a number of years ago with my then 17 year old son. Long story short I thought I was keeping and eye on him and we were being safe, but he ended up spending the night in the burn ward for observation after he grabbed both of the leads we had attached to the NST. I spent most of the night feeling worried and horribly guilty, and he spent the night flirting with the very cute student nurse doing her rotation in the burn ward happy that the only patient in the ward was a happy kid. (burn wards are frightening places, thinking what must happen in an examination room that has shower heads, floor drains, and everything is covered in thick vinyl sheeting) Luckily the only damage was some very minor scars on the palms of his hands.
Not sure if I will have the courage to break out the NST again, but I might at some point thanks to your videos.
On a minor point -- not to be a pain in the ass, but I am going to be -- you do take some pains to say this not a Hot Stick you are building, but hot stick is in the title of this video.

We all get bit. The trick is to learn the hard lesson and try like hell to not do it again. Thankfully at these small power levels it's usually a lesson. Once we stop up into non-current-limited devices there are no second chances. Once we get into my BIG equipment, we will be exploring devices that don't just kill you, they blow parts clean off. It's why I'm starting small, and focusing so hard on safety. Please give my warmest regards to your son, I'm glad he's alright. :)

'Brinkley stick' (UK) with the added feature of a resistor to reduce the fright factor. :-) Nice story behind the name too.

I yelled at my screen when you cut that short piece of THHN without stripping it first. Even worse is trying to strip the individual conductors of a single pair balanced audio cable that is shorter than a few feet, as the conductors will pull right out of the outer jacket/shield. Also, really like your use of the inside heat shrink on crimped connectors. Never tried that trick but getting ready to completely rewire a bass boat & will be using this, strain relief == reliability.

We had to make these for work. We had a machine that was a prototype it changed fork lift batteries automatically. The back and forth of the sled would zap your but...I always have dust in the back of my mind...I've seen silo explosions and was only a mile away from the Dixie crystal explosion.

Very nice, thank you. Now I will improve my grouding wand becaus my old one that I have for a year now is just some random junk and 16kv high voltage wire.( It has served me well but it is time for a new one like yours. Yours is beautiful btw.) Thank you and have a nice day.

Love this series! Watching each episode twice so I don't screw anything up. Made a Jesus Stick using heavier PEX and zip ties as I don't have shrink wrap large enough to go around the PEX. Help us understand using 600V rated cable for this application, shouldn't we be using high voltage insulated cable for this? We are planning to release angry pixies from 15kv devices, wouldn't 15kv rated wire be in order?

If you have the free-end connected to ground it doesn't really matter. I like 600V rated SO cord because it's soft and has a nice thick jacket. But it certainly won't hurt to use GTO-15 for this, it's just a lot more cumbersome to use.

BNTECHGO wire is all I buy. I have not had any problems with it, and I just did a video where I pull 35 amps over 10AWG into XT-60 connectors. It was barely over room temperature.
