I had those vents broken on mine, (not an XJ8) but a BMW 3 series. There were four different pieces I had to replace, thankful there no issues with the alternator. Thanx for the video John.
Thanks Graham. Just a note that as pointed out to me by Gary VanRemortel, lower (front part of mine is on upside down!. hence the bad alignment. I will video me flipping it the right way up ASAP!
Just checked mine having seen your video, yup its missing. At least the duct is still in place. Have joined the hunt for one! Thanks John for pointing it put to us all.
Im estimating 40% of them are missing and 20% of the ones that are still present are upside down! Looking like if your duct is present and the right way up you should be worried as the Oil was never changed when it was in the dealer network😁
You could be right at that. I think I've found one at a breakers so picking it up tomorrow morning. They are pretty rare, none of the usual parts dealers I looked at online have stock it appears.
Picked up my "new" plastic bit this morning. But my easy installation job was a bit tricky. Tried an M5 screw and it went straight through the panel it is supposed to fix to, the hole was way too big, even a M8 screw was too small. Fixed it by making an oversized nut out of a piece of ally strip, with a M5 tapped hole in it, to put behind the panel for the screw to fit into. So what happened to the old thread? Does anyone know if there was a threaded bush fitted originally? Or some form of spring clip perhaps that would take a screw?
I recently bought a 2002 Jaguer XK8, the problem is that the board says that it needs coolant and I fill it up, the fans are working, when I park, coolant spills from the reserve tank that is on the other side of the car, can you give me an idea of what maybe is going on? If you have any video about it let me know. Thank you
Hi I have not. I intend doing a speaker upgrade but will probably keep the head unit standard. You can buy a new facia frame to convert the aperture to Standard rectangular DIN shape to fit a different single DIN head unit.
My car doesn't seem to have a lower alternator duct. I'm guessing somebody took it off to change the oil and never replaced it. Alternator workshop fine now, but if it needs the duct with English weather in must need it here.
Hi Harry. Just a note that as pointed out to me by Gary VanRemortel, lower (front part of mine is on upside down!. hence the bad alignment. I will video me flipping it the right way up ASAP!
John, very strange that your HJA4477AD Duct is installed upside down. Look on Page 27 of the SNG Barratt XK8 Parts Collection. The part is supposed to draw air up from under the car, not from the radiator area. Incidentally it is a part that is no longer available in the supply chain, at least in the states. John needs to investigate vacuum forming this part and will probably end up making hundreds of quid after spending thousands.
Fantastically good spot Gary! I can't wait to get home now and flip my duct (so to speak) Just shows how little attention I paid to the one on my original XK8. I will do a 'correction video' addendum to ep 42 in your honour👍👍👍
Hi John, thanks for the great video's! I am the proud owner of a '98 XK8 coupe since last week, partially thanks to your video's on the XK8. Yesterday I found out that the door mirrors on my XK8 fold in when you move the adjustment switch forward and backwards (or up and down however you look at it) when the selector switch for left/right is in the middle position and when the gearbox is in "P" or "N". Could be a small "secret", if you didn't already know. Do you know if it's possible to un-program the automatic door locking without going to a Jaguar dealership? Greetings from the Netherlands!
Hi Van Deetere Congratulations on your Jaguar purchase. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I don't have electrically folding mirrors so I cant demo this one😔. I dont know how to un program the auto-lock feature but i bet one of our fellow subscribers will. Any takers ?

Another great tip, these cars are truly full of hidden secrets!
I'll be checking mine tomorrow.

I've finally managed to track one down, looking forward to fitting it! Only took me 2 years.....
Well done Graham👍

do you a video on how to replace speakers and upgrade radio on the xk8
Hi

I will need to do a quick check on this one. I did not know about this odd feature.
This is why I needed a car lift. Loads of interesting secrets lurk underneath!
The alternator just failed on my Xf after less than 40k miles and 5 years. Just wondering if it had an issue with over heating too.
I had an XF myself but must admit to never having looked at the alternator installation. Could well be the same packaging related issues.

I'll be checking mine at the weekend.....

@@ToTheGarage The fact that you are now a known duct flipper will be our secret.
WOW, again, something I did not know. Does the other Jags X308's have this?
Hi Mitch. I don't know so, but I would guess so, as the Mechanicals on the X100 and the X308 are so similar.
