The script around the mountain scene is pretty interesting, designed without any capital letters to see where the sentences begin or end. From the top clockwise it reads: "in this land of old fear doesn't take me i hear the echoes of high mountains cold the forests and valleys beckon to me across the four winds" Which could be split up in a few different ways but I think these make the most sense: In this land of old, fear doesn't take me I hear the echoes of high mountains cold The forests and valleys beckon to me across the four winds Across the four winds in this land of old, fear doesn't take me I hear the echoes of high mountains cold The forests and valleys beckon to me Another interesting thing is that the album's title "Age of Legends" is from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, a long high fantasy book series not entirely unlike Lord of the Rings (and while I think comparing the two to each other takes away from both of them, I personally prefer Lord of the Rings by a slight margin). Lord of Iron Fortress: Some might think this refers to Morgoth, ruler of Angband (Sindarin: "Iron Prison"), perhaps the greatest fortresses in Tolkien's writings, but the Iron Fortress is actually Angrenost (Sindarin: "Iron Fortress"), the Elvish name for Isengard, making Saruman the Lord of the Iron Fortress in the time of Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit. Age of Battles: This is a wild guess but "Age of Battles" is apparently a tabletop wargames series by a Russian models/games company called Zvezda. Given this band is Ukrainian it might not be that much of a stretch to assume this is what they're referring to, especially given all the overlap between wargames enthusiasts, D&D players, and Tolkien fans. The Nine: Likely referring to the Ringwraiths, but might also refer to the Fellowship of the Ring as it was described as "Nine to face the Nine". Pedo Mellon a Minno: The words spoken to open the West-Gate of Moria, seen in the first book of the Lord of the Rings. Night of Dancing Trolls: Refers to the night Bilbo and the dwarves following Thorin Oakenshield were captured by trolls in the night. Visions of Ancient Times: Not a clue on this one, might not be anything specific. A New Dawn: Not a clue on this one either. Same as above. Legend Became Myth: Galadriel spoke of the history of Sauron's Ring as folllows: "And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge." If there's anything I missed or got wrong feel free to let me know.
Hi there Edward! «Galdur» here! Always great to read comments like that. I can clarify for you some things Right order of inscription is next: I hear the echoes of high mountains cold The forests and valleys beckon to me Across the four winds In this land of old Fear doesn't take me! I always imagined Galdur as wanderer, something like Gandalf or Odin when he turned to an old man and wandered the land. And this is what galdur sings when he goes to journey (like those Bilbo song from hobbit) I’ve also used this text on debut Galdur album «Born by Stars and Moon» inlay People often refer to "Galdur" as something about LOTR, but its not exactly that. Just when I did "Age of Legends" - I had another time reading LOTR books, so took inspiration from that. But for example, next album "Wizardry" has nothing about LOTR at all. At that time I read a lot of "sword and sorcery" stuff. and works of Robert Howard (his Conan stuff). For me its just project, where I create fantasy music. Inspired by many things. books, games, etc Lord of Iron Fortress - you are correct. This song «is about» Saruman, and also Christopher Lee, who on my opinion is most perfect depiction of Saruman ever. Age of Battles - you got the point, but dig too deep) I didn’t know about existing of tabletop game with such name, but song was inspired by Tabletop games! Not particular game, but games at all, since in time when I did this track I've no longer played tabletop games, but I remember the spirit. The Nine - yeah, you got it same as with Pedo Mellon a Minno and Night of Dancing Trolls Visions of Ancient Times and A New Dawn do not have any direct connection to LOTR. Those 3 songs (together with Age of Battles) I’ve composed in several days when I gut my first midi keyboard. on this time all other songs from this album were already done, so I’ve just added this 3 songs to tracklist. Legend Became Myth - yeah! When I created this album - I just wanted to avoid some direct mentions of LOTR since it is too boring already. Regards! S.
@@SeverothOcculta Thank you very much for the detailed response. I definitely agree with the goal of not referencing LOTR too much. While I do love the series a lot, it seems to be a bit over-referenced in the genre as a whole. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your music!
Awesome album. I glad that such quality music can be created in Ukraine. And it is pure dungeon synth since guitars and drums appear only as little parts and do not dominate in songs comparing to atmospheric black metal. And I do not understand people who say that it is Summoning rip-off. Yes, it can be inspired by Summoning and Mortiis but Galdur has unique sound and as for me sound of this project closer to early Limbonic art, since it is darker than more melancholir or epic Summoning music.
Listening to The Nine in my room at night with a cold breeze coming through my window felt like a trip inside Minas Morgul. Eerie vibes, very well done by Galdur.
This is probably one of the best dungeon synths I've heard. High depth and consistency, with tranquilizing loops within explosive surroundings. Top-notch!!
The album that got me into dungeon synth and still my favorite of the genre to this day after many years of wandering the lands of DS. Not too say I’m not in love with many other DS albums but there’s just so something special about this one.
I discovered this band through this channel before it was uploaded on Atmospheric Black Metal albums. A great mixture of Mortiis and Summoning atmospheres, really awesome album from the beginning to the end.
The metal parts like 21:57 almost sound like a soundtrack to some late 90s starcraft-like RTS but fantasy. It's the first album to amaze me with such epicness since Elminster's Screams of the Deciduous Woods. That makes the two of them.
Indeed this project inspired of Tolkien AND Summoning, even so, I'd like to say that solid work done by Galdur here. So better let yourselves enjoy this music which is written beautifully instead of bitching around. Cheers!
@@Cheximus that's a melodic black metal album written in 2010, in many ways written like in the early 90's melodic black metal scene: early Ulver, etc... And it doesn't have nothing to do with Dungeon Synth....
The first track sounds like Dunkelheit by Burzum (I am not saying that this is bad nor accusing the artists as stealers etc). I LOVE it. Thank you for such wonderful music. Also worth mentioning that Dunkelheit is the very first track that Varg recorded, it means Darkness in German and its original title is Burzum, which means darkness in Tolkien language.

Yesterday, Dec 31 2023 I was playing Mork Borg with my friends before midnight and we were listening to it, best RP we've ever made.

And now Ukraine is doom

I listen to this album every winter for the last 3 years, always a delight.
magical, inspiring, dungeon synth-at-its-finest album.
Just epic! Use it for my Dragonlance campaign 2nd edition! Inspiring for role play!

Summoning is the Master of all tolkienist-black metal bands 🐺🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥
Шикарный альбом! Просто шикарный.
fantastic album....great melodies,great atmosphere.... masterpiece
The drums in The Nine on a massive system...thats all i need in live
This takes me to the stars. Thank you!
Excellent album. Perfect music to close your eyes and fly away.
This guy is from Ukraine. I hope he is doing well.
EDIT: this album is pretty fucking good. Best dungeon album I've ever heard.

excellent! And as the seasons change towards winter this fits perfectly
Pedo Mellon a Minno certainly the stand-out for me. Love it.
A NEW POWER IS RISING
LOVE IT, THE POWER.
perfect music for adventures to fantasy worlds.
epic
This band very good for me and my collection.
A new power is rising!
Whenever i go back and listen to this album one more time my jaw draws open again and again
Really? It's great, but it's not exactly earth-shattering in its originality or complexity.
@@Cheximus care to share any albums better than this besides Summoning?

A real Dungeon Synth gem this one.
Best dS so far
I hope all of you had a sufficient oxytocin peak because of these here sounds. Peace
Ahh, Galdur, the mighty mage of windhold, holder of His artifact, and the master of runes
Nice name of your profile
I fukin love everything about this, the band name, the art, the sound! XD
Perfect for making some pre-gens.
gems like this just keep me coming back again and again to this channel. :)
I can imagine myself descending into the pits of Utumno...
a true Visions of Ancient Times.
The Nine reminds me of the intro to "Kings of the Carnival Creation" by Dimmu
Best sound in a while -- heck yeh
Wonderful album.
Now this is absolutely amazing! Like Summoning but with a unique sound still.
Summoning and Arcana vibes. So that's just great!
The atmosphere reminds me of early Emperor.
love it! I think Lord of Iron Fortress is my favorite
TOLKIEN RULES!!!
Quality stuff.
awesome music..great
Amazing Work!!!
wow.
EPIC !!!
Thank you
Probably my favorite Dungeon Synth Project right before Thangorodrim
Мне больше понравлась вторая тема: душа чувстует перспективу.
Perfectly excellent!
Yeah that is Summoning, even the guitars are emulated!!!!
Best one yet. Wow.
👌🏻 Nice! The first track sounds epic.
brilliant chants of Severoth Occulta.
An excellent musician
Love this album. Can anyone recommend me any dungeon synth songs/artists which have the epic sound, like Galdur and Wraith Knight?
Love this so much!
just amazing !
Severoth 🖤
GREAT!
Lovely!
Amazing!

very good
This is literally HEAVY. It makes me want to bang my head. Well done!
I thought I was the only one who thought that. It is actually very heavy. I'd say it's borderline black metal.
Non-metal Summoning - fantastic!
fantastic album
If Summoning and Mortiis had a lovechild, this would be it.
😊😊😊😊😊😊
Que som majestoso! Minha alma viaja pra lugares proibidos 44:30

the best album of this genre for me
Nice.
Age of Battles... epic! :O
You'll have bands with songs with heavy guitars and other songs that are dungeon synth, not dungeon synth songs with heavy guitars
meu tipo preferido
i play darksouls 3 to this
I don't understand, but is that Christopher Lee's voice? I mean, it would make sense. Lord of the Iron Fortress.
it give me huge neverwinter nights vibes rather than tolkien.

Yes lmao, but thanks for reminding me that Havana Affair and Dunkelheit share the similar chord progression
