- This was a 2-day 1-night winter backpacking trip to the summit of Mt Baldy, the third highest peak in Southern California at 10,064 feet. Robert @20robertang and I started at the Manker Flat trailhead (6,100 ft) and set up our base camp in the snow just below the bottom of Heartbreak Hill at 8700 feet before summiting the next morning. There was quite a bit of drama going on with one climber falling about 600 feet down the bowl and another hiker getting lost in whiteout conditions. Luckily both survived with only minor injuries, but one of them did require a helicopter rescue. The date of this trip was March 16th and 17th, 2024. This completes our winter backpacking triple crown where we did San Gorgonio in January, San Jacinto in February, and Baldy in March!
What a magnificent views!! Thank you for sharing 🙏
You're welcome and glad you liked the views.
great job making it up there, amazing views! just need a deadcat for your camera now
Thanks! Yeah, I know the wind noise is super annoying.
Beautiful place
Yes it is. Thanks!
Felt good after this one, completing our goal.
We’ve been through a lot and managed to survived the ordeal. I hope you already recover from the sleepless night. Lol!
Tagay to our next adventure!
Yeah, great idea you had to complete the winter backpacking triple crown, with San G, San J, and finally Baldy! Tagay!
Great vid David !!!
Thanks Amir! We should go up there together in the snow one of these days. I think you would like it. Cheers!
Back to back amazing footage David. Love being able to see slightly different conditions and angles from your videos at mt Baldy. Stay safe.
Thanks Ulysses! It was another crazy weekend up there.
Beautiful video, I love your nervous laughter! Haha There seems to never be a dull moment on Mount Baldy!
Thanks! This weekend was really crazy up there with multiple helicopter rescues, people falling down the bowl, the wind, the snow, and so on.
Amazing video.. stay safe..
Thanks! Will do.
Interested in what gear you had tent, backpack, lamp, jacket, gloves( clothing ) etc... and any other helpful items
That's a good idea for a separate video that I am planning to make. Stay tuned!
Im just guessin, but I think you froze your ass off . Even in Summer with a constant strong breeze it gets really cold. Looks like you toughed it out OK though.
Inside my sleeping bag (rated at 15 degrees) I was fine, but outside it was cold. It was in the low 20s without windchill.
Loved video but the wind noise was covered up a lot of your description.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look in to getting something to try to block the wind noise.
What was this filmed on?
Hey Alejandro! I use my iPhone14Pro to film.
