I was 15 in '86 and after coming to L.A. from NY in '77, my years from '82-'88 were the best of my life. If I could go back to the 80's I'd be going one way, so I'm really rooting for that end of life Black Mirror technology from the San Juniper episode!

That's got to be around July of 1986. The movie Running Scared, show playing on a marquee, was released June 27th of that year. I remember this time very well. I played guitar in a lot of metal bands at this time, into the very early 90s. Played all those clubs, Gazzari's, The Roxy, Whiskey, Coconut Teaszer, and many more all over L.A. Very different times than today.

I was born in L.A. in the mid 80s and raised in there. I was too young to experience Hollywood during this time. Now it's a bunch of tourists, restaurants, bars, retail stores, smoke shops and police everywhere. I heard Hollywood was dangerous and seedy during the 80s. Hookers, drug dealers, criminals and junkies walking about. It's cleaned up a lot since, but it's become a bougie with it's expensive bars and restaurants and a lot of tourists walk around taking selfies and group photos. In becoming a lot safer to walk around, it seems it also became more boring.

Amazing. More than 30 years ago, and it looks pretty much the same as today. Except no SUVs (just vans). And no one had a cell phone or high-res digital camera in their pocket. We had no Internet, no Facebook or Twitter or any of that crap. You called people on the phone if they were home, and if not, went out and found them outside. People talked to each other in person. They are more economical than Mercury lamps that appeared in the 30s/40s, so they gradually became widespread over the following decades and ended up completely replacing Mercury lamps, with a much higher light intensity at an equal Watt power, which allows the use of HPS lamps with a lower Watt power. for example a 100w HPS lamp has a higher light intensity than a 250w Mercury,, the same for a 250w HPS lamp compared to a 400w Mercury.

@@RickTBL i think that was edited in . but alot of the other footage did seem to be in 80s because of the way the females clothes and hair styles looked .

maybe 89 or even 90 would be considered the 80s because new decades dont begin to take shape until 2 or 3 years into it .

How is that the 80’s? The Hollywood/Highland mall wasn’t there in the 80’s. Did Sephora even exist back then?

This is definitely a jumble of stock footage clips from about 1985ish to about 2002ish. Not all 80s, but that's no biggie. Just shows how the more things change, the more they stay the same.
