    I just found your delightful channel! Your enthusiasm is infectious. 🥰
    For my socks I aim to have a total foot length about 1/2 inch shorter than the length of my foot as the fabric will stretch. I highly recommend Kate Atherley’ s book’ Custom Socks’ where she discusses negative ease at length and gives tips to get a perfect fit.
    Oh …and your Blouse no 2 looks amazing, so chic!
    Love, Lisa

      I will have to make my next pair using the 1/2 inch trick! My last pair came out too short because I just held it up to my foot and guessed! Thank you for the book recommendation and for watching 😊

    I’m an avid sock knitter, and you can get two pairs of socks out of a 100 gram hank when knitting socks for women. If you use a contrast color for heels, toes and cuffs, you will be set and not have to worry about playing yarn chicken.
    So happy I found your podcast. Your enthusiasm is wonderful. 😊

      I might have to try making two pairs with my next hank because I have SO much left over from just the one! If I don’t do a contrast toe and cuff, I will probably have to shorten the leg though.
      So glad you enjoyed the podcast ☺️

    I’m so glad I’ve discovered you! I love that you use Big Box yarns as well as the fancy stuff (like me!) Your Monday looks SO GOOD on you!

      Thank you ☺️ I find it really fun to switch it up between box box and fancy because you can either make something super special, or something completely for fun (with no pressure of it not being perfect!)

    Enjoyed your podcast! I always have socks on the needles and they are a grab and go knitting! Your socks turned out great! Try German twist cast on for a stretchy rib on socks! It’s great!!

      Yes! They are SO easy to grab and go. I will definitely try the German twist cast on for my next pair!

      I haven’t even completed one pair, but I can definitely recommend the process! Hopefully I’ll be able to say a little bit about how they hold up after wearing them for a bit!

    Knitpicks needles are guaranteed for life so you might want to call for a replacement. I like their needles too, I have most of the wood sets and the nickel one. My friend thought that one was Chiaogoo 😂 Good podcast!

      Ooooooh guaranteed for life? That’s incredible! My 4mm ones have almost completely lost their top coat (so they feel way more rough now) from so much use - I might ask about getting those replaced as well! Thanks for the tip!

    Lovely video! Your enthusiasm really catches on :) I have never made a classic sock (only one DK weight version), but I just bought my first skein of hand dyed sock yarn! Fingers crossed some socks will get cast on in the near future haha

      I think you are going to love it! When I work on them, the word “cute” comes to mind because fingering weight yarn is so tiny!

    I’m so excited to hear that you’ll be knitting the porcelain sweater! I’d like to cast that on soon too, but I also have never done colourwork before 😬 I also have the scout shawl on my to-knit list, and I’m considering signing up for Florence Spurling’s virtual workshop next week, in hopes that it will help me learn the techniques needed for working colourwork flat in both those projects. Great podcast, looking forward to the next one!

      I didn’t even think about trying a workshop! I’ll have to look into that. Hopefully I’ll be able to find some helpful RUclips tutorials as well and maybe recommend some as I start knitting it!

    GIRL! We need to be friends. We knit all the same things! I’m so excited I just found your podcast! I love it. I started one recently too💃🏻I’m currently knitting a Monday Sweater Junior for my toddler and plan on knitting one for myself next! So I loved hearing all about your experience with knitting yours! And big fan of the Oslo Hat. I knit one for my kiddo a while back in a hand dyed tweed yarn and loved how it turned out, and you’ve reminded me how I wanted to knit one for my hubby. It’s awesome how you’re knitting them for all of your family! So fun! Have you thought about doing 2 colors for any one them? Whenever I saw projects on Ravelry for it with two colors it made me want to give that a try. Like one color on the brim and the top in another. I can’t wait to see all of the colors you do! And I love sock knitting and Crazy Sock Lady’s patterns! Honestly I’ve noticed the same thing with variegated yarn as well sometimes, but I think with those yarns what’s most fun about it is the process and seeing how it works up because sometimes it’s not what you expect!😊and hey, you knit up some more socks and have more leftovers you can make some scrappy socks✨Can’t wait to see more of your videos, lady!

      Hello!! So glad you liked the podcast! The two colored Oslo hat is such a good idea! I will have WAY more leftovers than I know what to do with after making all of these for my family. I highly recommend making a Monday sweater for yourself because it is such a nice pattern! I will be making another one very soon probably (though the one thing I would do differently is add a couple more short rows around the neck). Thank you so much for watching ☺️

    Hi! Just found your podcast, and enjoyed it! I've knit the Marseille sweater in Double Sunday, was so sure that's what you were gonna say your're planning 😂 BUT, I will say, knitting the Porcelain in sweater in merino instead of the (thin) pure wool in the pattern, might change the expression quite a bit..and colourwork really is easier with rustic wool! Double Sunday is much smoother, so you might find it harder to get the tension right.

    • @laurarachellee
      @laurarachellee  Год назад

      I didn’t even remotely think about that! 😂 can you tell I have never knit colorwork before? I am about to start the first colorwork section, so I will definitely pay attention to the tension. If it’s not working, I will now know why! Thanks for watching and letting me know 😊

    Hi! First time watching - YT suggestion 😉 Your sweater is beautiful and I love the color! Socks: I have 9's too haha. And the shorter the top is the bigger the foot looks! It sounds like you might like a hand-dyed that uses fewer or adjacent colors? Yours does look really pretty! In the skein the colors were probably pooled together and not speckly. The shorter the color pieces are on the strands, the more speckled they finish up. Re: needles I'm holding NitPicks needles ATM! I was gifted two sets in about 2005 from our store owner, and hadn't used them much, but I'm really liking the laminate set. Have you checked with NitPicks to see if they will replace your broken tip? That used to be a thing manufacturers offered for broken pieces.... Sorry that got long 🙃 Happy knitting!!

    • @laurarachellee
      @laurarachellee  Год назад

      Hi! I agree about looking for fewer/more adjacent colors in sock yarn! That’ll be my next thing I try. About the needles, I haven’t asked them about my broken ones (because I just went ahead and bought a new pair 😅) but I will probably ask about replacing my 4mm needles. The ends on these are completely down to the wood, and the coating has been rubbed off from knitting with them! Have any of yours done this?
      So glad you found the podcast ☺️

    I have exactly the same problem with alpaca - it feels very soft but it irritates me far, far more than merino wool does. Merino (particularly Sandnes Double Sunday and KFO Merino) and cashmere are the fibres I can always trust not to irritate me at all.

    • @laurarachellee
      @laurarachellee  Год назад

      Yes! I was holding out hope that the finished fabric would be super lovely and make up for the bad knitting experience, but that was not the case. Unfortunately, this will probably be my last time knitting with that much alpaca. But I am so glad to hear that you like Double Sunday! I have a feeling that the Porcelain Sweater I am about to cast on with it will be my favorite one yet. (Knitting for Olive Merino is next on my list to try!)

    Hi I just found your podcast. Love your Monday sweater. The yarn you used by Isage4, is actually pronounced ‘issay-er.’ It took me a long time to figure that out! 😉 Also as far as scratchiness goes, I heard some)me say she washes her sweaters in hair conditioner. Don’t know what that does but it sounds like it would soften it. I may try it for a sweater that I made probably 1st years ago that I love but I have to wear a shirt underneath and still the neck itches!

    • @laurarachellee
      @laurarachellee  Год назад

      Thank you! I’ve really been struggling with pronouncing it.
      Hopefully one of these remedies will soften sweaters, but I may also take the safe route in the future and go for a yarn that I know doesn’t itch!

      Right?! I just messed up on my second pair of socks and randomly decided to make them 10 rows shorter than my first pair (even though they fit very well), and wouldn’t you know it, the shorter socks were too small 😅 I think I have finally learned to accept it lol

    I don't really like how a lot of variegated hand-dyed yarn knits up. I prefer more speckled, tonal of self striping (for socks).

    • @laurarachellee
      @laurarachellee  Год назад

      I really want to try speckled! Though I guess it isn’t as popular with dyers because I don’t remember seeing any at my local yarn store… I might have to try ordering some online!

    • @myspacepunk

      I think it really helps to contrast a variegated colourway with a tonal (cuffs/heels/toes, stripes, hems, etc.)
