I’ve had Rhabdomyolysis and it was horrible. It did take about 3 months to finally feel “normal” again. Was in the hospital for 3 days and lost a little over 15 pounds.
I've had it as well- had to be hospitalized, where the Dr. told me I most likely had kidney damage from it...took 5 bags of iv fluids to flush my kidneys- luckily I recovered with no kidney damage. Scary shit
I had it once from going to Cross Fit for 1 session for the first time and the guy had me do squats for over an hour straight with a PVC pipe instead of barbell and told me to keep going and not slow down. Literally, the entire class was nonstop of this. My piss was so dark and my legs were screwed for like 2.5 months. Never went to Cross Fit again and view it as a psycho cult. I just lift weights in my basement like a normal human now.
Yeah this one was smooth. Most of the time is placed so randomly that it makes me laugh. Just pops out of nowhere mid discussion, without warning. It is some of the worse, but most hilarious product placement I've ever seen.
I never realized till watching this video that Rich Piana was who I got the mindset to do two and a half hour workouts from. Over the last two years I swapped that out for high-quality 40-60 minute workouts and have made such better gains.
Also who in their right mind has the time to spend 3/8ths of their non-working/non-sleeping hours each day going to the gym? I think a lot more people would be inclined to lift and exercise if they knew they could get great results by hitting the iron a little under an hour 4-5 days a week.
I used to work at Ingalls shipyard as a welder and then workout for 3 to 4 hours after work. I had to turn sideways to fit through doors. I had to be careful to pay close attention to where I was walking because I would accidently hurt people. It was not sustainable. It turned out to be worth it though. I was riding my bicycle to work and got hit. I totaled the car. At the hospital the only thing that was wrong was I had a hairline fracture in my neck and my soft organs, guts were bruised and rattled so I had messed up bowel movements for a year. I didn't train my neck so that was the weak point that broke. The car that hit me looked like it hit a pine tree. It was totaled. I'm only alive because of Rich Pianna and LGD 4033.
Had a new inmate decide he was going to get into shape while on lockdown. He did a deck of cards workout (spades are body squats, hearts are pushups, clubs were lunges, diamonds were something I can't remember) number on the card x10, face cards are worth 10 and aces were 15. He did this for an entire day. Gave himself rabdo and his kidneys shut down. He almost died from it

I’m old now at 48 and understand value more than I worry about price. Good luck in your journey 👍
I think you could have been kinder to Rich, he encouraged his audience to give 100% effort towards reaching their goals, he preached dedication and consistency, he was frightfully honest and offered some of the best entertainment in RUclips fitness history. He will be sorely missed.
The 8 hour arm workout was the top meme moment of RUclips bodybuilding fitness in my opinion . Thank god i had some gym experience when that came out because if i had none i sure as hell would have tried it 😂😂😂
Rich Piana is a body Building legend got tons of guys into the gym and was honest about his steroid use like 90% of Influencers today aren't. And was a overall positive influence on the gym community.
I've been struggling to figure out what to do with myself going forward for years now. I just want you to know you inspired me to start studying and get a degree in sports dietetics. I was always interested in it (which is why I'm even here) but you gave me the necessary push. Anyone that asks what made me decide, I'm going to direct to Reneissance Periodization. This channel is phenomenal, thank you
While I consider reaction content to be the lowest common denominator of RUclips content, these videos are more like in-depth critiques meant for educational purposes, which I highly respect. I can tell that Mike has enough business-knowledge to know what will get him more views, resulting in more subscribers, and more people listening to his lessons. Good work!
There are different kinds of reaction content; I wouldn't consider an educational, expert critique to be remotely similar to videos where someone's behavior in response to something is a spectacle.
This isn’t bad reaction content. Bad reaction content is people who just film them watching a video and add nothing to it, simply just watch (ex: infinite lists and sssniperwolf)
After hearing Dr. Mike’s opinions on goth girls and DBZ characters, I’m starting to think he’s not just a good source for exercise information; he’s also unfathomably based
I remember an old Muscletech ad with this workout in it. Of course you had to drink a Mesotech and Celltech shake between workouts to “feed the muscles”
After spending two weeks in an induced coma to try to reduce swelling to the brain, Piana died on August 25, 2017 at the age of 46. An autopsy revealed "significant heart disease" and that his heart and liver weighed over twice the average amount for an adult male. Jansen said Piana was well aware that his organs were enlarged, and that this was a known side effect of the steroids and hormones he had been taking.
Note for people looking at this who are considering or already doing steroids: at some point, all of these steroids will not help you put on muscle in any way, and all they will do is mutate your body into something unsustainable that will die. No, it is not smart to keep stacking steroids if you can't achieve enough growth. There are many aspects that can limit your muscle growth, and steroids can only help with some. Don't Rich Piana yourself.
‘Fun’ little anecdote. While in College I was lifting like my degree depended on it, but I trained like a total bro. I didn’t know much about proper training and I had learned most things through RUclips. Starting strength, Alan Thrall, CT Fletcher, and of course, Rich Piana. I was big into his feeder sets, 50 curls and 100 tricep extensions for 3 sets each, and had managed to convince my roommate (mostly sedentary with no prior experience) to join me for a set. We were halfway through when I heard him say “Fitz, I don’t feel so good.” I impatiently turned to him to tell him to grit his teeth and get through, only to see him turn his head and… the left side of his face had gone completely slack. He had a stroke. Apparently he forgot to breathe. He lived.
Jesus FC! This is why bad advice is so bad! People can see stuff like Piana and actually try to emulate what he does and it can seriously mess you up for life. The guy died at 46. If that isn't a cautionary tale I don't know what is.
@@HeadCannonPrime Well in all fairness to both Rich Piana and myself, I never thought I’d have to tell anyone to keep breathing while they lifted. 😅 lesson learned.
@@albertfitzgerald2309 A stroke is caused by a clot blocking blood to parts of the brain or hemorrhaging inside the brain. It doesn't have anything to do with breathing. If I had to guess, your friend overexerted himself, spiked his blood pressure and suffered an intercranial aneurysm. Alternatively, he had some arterial blockage which came loose during the exercise and ended up blocking the blood supply to part of his brain.
@@HowardsCat Makes sense, but when we sat him down in front of a fan to breathe, his face relaxed and he came back to baseline. Genuinely curious, do you know what could have possibly happened internally for him to get better on his own?
I think David's a bit different. He doesn't posture as a fitness guru. He's basically outright said what he does probably isn't the best for him physically, mental strain is his focus.
@@mr.jameson218 that is a fair point and I think you are right that he doesn’t actually advocate people actually do what he does, just that they need grit and mental toughness. That said, it would be interesting to see a thorough, educated opinion on just how destructive to the body those kind of workouts are.
Rest in peace, Rich. He got me into the gym and working out. Lost 65 lbs on keto (a diet his content introduced me to). He released a 1000 rep arm workout too and i got to 931 reps. No joint pain though. Focused on having absolutely perfect form during the 4 and a half hour madness to honor his death.
That part about not training so much you lose the pump and go numb is absolutely spot on. I was really into martial arts in my 20s and i trained with old school guys who loved doing abs and pushups. On more than one occasion i did so many situps or pushups that the pain went away and i felt like i could go forever. Eventually my shoulders got so burned up and weak i had to stop. It was about a year before i did another pushup. Then in my 30's i overdid ab workouts a couple times and got so sore i struggled to get out of bed and literally felt sick for days. To top it off i have imbalances to the point i pretty much avoid ab work altogether becuase i get crazy back pain the next day. Don't overtrain. If your muscles are cramping and going numb you really should stop.
Liked and subscribed. I never won any huge contests and no one outside of my community would remember me, but I started training in 1982 and I competed in powerlifting meets for about 15 years while trying to maintain a lean off-season bodybuilding look. When I saw a video some years ago, where Rich was talking about his drug protocol, and how he was pushing to get to a certain bodyweight I can’t remember what it was now and how much he was eating, I knew that we were witnessing the beginning of the end of his life. I’ve never seen your channel until today. You are hilarious and obviously extremely knowledgeable. I am looking forward to seeing more.

In the late 70:s my father did a variation of the 10 set 100 reps benchpress. It was a wrestlers program called "10-45-100". The goal was to do 10 sets to failure in 45 minutes and reach 100 reps in total. "Wrestlers workout" based on a hypothesis that they needed to be strong when accumulating fatigue. You started out with a weight light enough to be able to do 15-17 reps and every set was to total failure (ensured by a spotter). You ended up with 3-5 reps in the last set. The rest time was several minutes since the whole workout took 45 minutes. Then the real goal of each workout was to lift as many tons in total, ie calculagte the weight in (kgXnumber of reps), and progress in that way! For example if the weight was 100 kg and you did 100 reps, the total would be 10 tons or 10000 kg (100X100). Weight was raised for the next workout if the number of reps was exceeding a 100. In hindsight it was way to much. Probably based on the (east) german volume training in some way. But even that was not to failure in the first sets (probably accumulated fatigue leading to closer to failure in the last sets). This was to failure in set 1 and onward!
When I was first learning this was literally the video I watched - now we have Dr. Mike. Thank you dr Mike those 8 hour 16 shake workout were really wearing me down
Rich knew 8hr workouts were ridiculous but he was ahead of the times when it came to influencers going viral with silly things. He was smart in that regard.
I've done his 8hr arm workout & its no joke. I didn't get the inch on my arms like he said but I feel like it did help me break a plateau. You're only gonna get so much of a pump regardless of how much you train in a session. It was a fun novelty workout.
it's not the exercise what got to him.. to me , these kinds of training videos seemed to be only image rehabilitation moves for taking eyes away from steroids use - the reason for which he died with an overly enlarged heart also, besides other suspected "recreational" substance abuse; related or not, he looked 64 at 46; but that could be at least partially due to what i'd call protein turnover, accelerating aging.

Rich’s workout is an example of why people made the phrase “naturals shouldn’t trainer like enhanced guys”
I’ve had Rhabdomyolysis and it was horrible. It did take about 3 months to finally feel “normal” again. Was in the hospital for 3 days and lost a little over 15 pounds.
It inflated the whole body..😒like a balloon!🙄🎈
I've had it as well- had to be hospitalized, where the Dr. told me I most likely had kidney damage from it...took 5 bags of iv fluids to flush my kidneys- luckily I recovered with no kidney damage. Scary shit

Literally, the entire class was nonstop of this.
My piss was so dark and my legs were screwed for like 2.5 months.

Dr Mike saved me from listening to the nonsense in exercise and taught me everything I need to know to achieve as much as I’m capable of doing safely in the gym. The bits I fail at are down to me and my limitations - no excuses.

Thank god i had some gym experience when that came out because if i had none i sure as hell would have tried it 😂😂😂
I did it when I started but spread it out through 8 days. Lol
Rich Piana is a body Building legend got tons of guys into the gym and was honest about his steroid use like 90% of Influencers today aren't. And was a overall positive influence on the gym community.
90% is probably low bud. I mean your probably only 9.9% off. Lol!
Alternatively, this video epitomises the stereotypical meathead that "bodybuilders" present themselves as. It's embarrassing.
Your standard for a legend is lower than a snakes vagina.
This channel is phenomenal, thank you
Congratulations! 🤗
That’s really amazing! Congratulations!!
Good work!
No doubt
There are different kinds of reaction content; I wouldn't consider an educational, expert critique to be remotely similar to videos where someone's behavior in response to something is a spectacle.
This isn’t bad reaction content. Bad reaction content is people who just film them watching a video and add nothing to it, simply just watch (ex: infinite lists and sssniperwolf)

I remember an old Muscletech ad with this workout in it. Of course you had to drink a Mesotech and Celltech shake between workouts to “feed the muscles”

@@Disneymagic24one time as opposed to once
OMG!!!
REALLY???
Did you found that yourself???
I think he overdid it a little sometimes, yeah.
He literally did "whatever it takes" to get that extra inch, even giving up those years of his life.
His body his choice. Ill pass on all that.
Cleanest Hypertrophy app transition yet. 10/10
Unbelievable, that guys freaking nuts man. The look on his face toward the end of his arm workout said it all
‘Fun’ little anecdote.
@ABC-xg5ii if that’s not the case then I’d love for Dr Mike to pick up this story and explain what possibly happened.

@@mr.jameson218 that is a fair point and I think you are right that he doesn’t actually advocate people actually do what he does, just that they need grit and mental toughness.

10:04 goth chicks part is so real🙏

Dead at 46.
This level of exercise is quite literally insane.
it's not the exercise what got to him.. to me , these kinds of training videos seemed to be only image rehabilitation moves for taking eyes away from steroids use - the reason for which he died with an overly enlarged heart also, besides other suspected "recreational" substance abuse;
related or not, he looked 64 at 46; but that could be at least partially due to what i'd call protein turnover, accelerating aging.
