I’m in my 50s. It’s not a secret. I remember hearing about it decades ago when the Soviet Union still existed. It’s just that people have forgotten. I’ve no idea if it still is in existence. I do knowPutin cannot trigger a nuclear weapons launch by himself. Russia has a process that doesn’t allow that, as does the 🇺🇸

also in my 50's and maybe where I lived I never heard of it until recently. it was just always MAD. do you have a source as to where Putin cannot do it? would help me sleep at night thank you

I just think it's kind of cowardice to have such a device MY GOD. I have heard of the THOR tech to defend against this type of attack.
I think once Russia has secured ENOUGH territory and resources they will begin negotiations & treaties ECT. We are far away from resolve though it's HOT!

Terrifying prospect, especially in current circumstances! Scary to think that there are likely other military projects that exist that we don’t know of…

AI and doomsday devices seem like a perfect match.

Мы модернизировали систему. И вообще-то американцы первые сделали систему “Operation Looking Glass”.

Why the hell would anyone design such a thing? And why would it be designed to go off after a nuclear attack? If you were a loyal Russian or a loyal American, after a nuclear attack we're no longer American or Russian or anything. We're all just people at that point. Under such extreme circumstances I would think that it wouldn't matter who survived. Just as long as someone did. Some human people. That would mean a future for humanity in some form.
Also, it doesn't have to function to work. It would work just as well as a lie. Some flashing lights and tape machines connected to nothing are just as much of a deterrent to nuclear war as a real working device is IF there's enough secrecy surrounding it and enough hinting of the details behind a functional device. It would have to be a very carefully executed bit of state theater but it could be done.

At the end the video mentions there’s no confirmation it actually exists or the details of how it would function, so it may very well be what you suggested, something to make the enemy worry exists so they won’t ever act out in a way that would reveal it was a lie to scare off enemies. It’s a risk no one wants to take and hopefully no one ever does.
Regardless, the US and Russia do have enough distance that if someone fired a nuke, a nuke could be fired back before the first one lands, so the assurance of mutual destruction is still very much a thing and a helpful way to stop either nation using them. The Cuban missile crisis occurred because Russia was close to setting up nukes close enough to the US that this mutual threat of destruction would no longer exist, Russia could fire and hit the US before it could fire back, meaning there was nothing left to deter Russia from nuking them. It nearly started WWIII and nukes were VERY close to getting fired, terrifyingly close.
This is actually part of the Ukrainian conflict, as Russia sees Ukraine joining NATO as a way for the US to put nukes or other destructive missiles up close to not just Russia, but Moscow itself, which would be too close to react to, which would theoretically mean the US would have nothing holding them back from bombing Russia.
I don’t in anyway support Russia btw, but it’s part of the reason behind what’s happening, as well as why the US is staying out of it. I suppose this was bound to happen, the US doesn’t have that “maverick factor” to it anymore that made everyone afraid of them in the past (as they did nuke Japan, so no one knew if they might do similar to other enemies). Russia knows the threat of mutual destruction means the US wouldn’t try to stop the actions of their military unless the US felt personally threatened by them, so Ukraine is almost certainly going to be abandoned by the West just to avoid a bigger conflict.
The NATO thing was a great excuse for Russia to invade at this moment in time but ever since the Soviet Union fell and Ukraine voted for independence Russia has been looking to get it and other former Soviet provinces back under its rule, so Ukraine is probably the first of several invasions Russia intents to follow through with.

It actually makes sense. If your enemy is gonna win and you lose... the only solution to kill both of yourself so nobody can lose. Its a dumb situation, but it just proves how narcissistic some countries are, they would rather kill the whole humanity then accept a defeat.
