First, ever song I learned on the harmonica and one of the early songs I learned on the bass. Ian Anderson is not just a great flute player but a great harmonica player. Glenn Cornick is a fantastic bass player as well
When I was a wee lass I went to a cottage with a best friend and her parents for the weekend and her grumpy Da couldn't stand our music and he'd only allow us to bring one cassette for the 4 hour-one way car ride. She and I battled for an hour before leaving cuz she wanted to bring KISS and I refused to go unless we brought Jethro Tull's "Aqualung"! 🥳I💪🏻won! 🤦🏻♀️The old fart only let it play 4 songs on the hour! 🌹Thank you for sharing, I love everything👏🏻created by Jethro Tull, especially the great🎶musical💭memories.

1969 at Devonshire Downs festival in LA in 1969, my first time I saw them. The girl I was with said look look he singing on 1 leg! Fan forever after thst
Oh yes it is! Johnny Halliday Show recorded April 15 1969 - they're first trip to Paris. Check out the show logo on the left bass drum. Martin joined December 24 1968. He's there. Also, there is no film of Mick Abrahams with JT.
That’s a heartbreaker. No film of Mick Abrams w JT. His playing on This Was is for me iconic. He was no Greenie Lol. but he was truly fabulous back then.
@ric60100 There is a Tull/Beefheart connection, oddly enough. A bunch of Beefheart's Magic Band guys formed a band called Mallard in about 1973. Ian Anderson heard them, and liked them so much that he financed their debut album.
This was during that short period when they were between guitarists. On the live Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus version, you'll see Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath fame, also miming the guitar part. I can't tell for the life of me who the guitar player is here haha! Also, this shuffle is wicked!! Clive Bunker was just phenomenal!!

thanks for getting it right! as 50% of the comments are wondering who's who.... & some just plain incorrect the main thing is that Tull is great even in vids of their lesser, underwhelming works like this!
When you think about it, it's ironic that Glenn Cornick figures so prominently in a song about the guy who replaced him eventually. But, I love his style. Clive just looks bored in all of these TV videos, it's hilarious.
I kinda agree I really like the great groove driven blues Maybe Taj Mahal schooled them at The Rock n Roll Circus and, they decided to change their musical direction and see where that would take them
@fabrikk60 both bands were on Reprise at the same time and hung out together - later Tull bassist Jeff Hammond nicked Beefheart's hat he wore on the cover of Trout Mask, but Beefheart was OK about it when he discovered what nice guys they were.
That's really interesting. That would have been around the time of Johnny's "Angry Psych " period (A tout Casser , Voyage au Pays Des Vivant , MAL , ETC.).I could swear I once saw a clip of Glen Cornick playing Harmonica (Strapped around his neck like Dylan) on this song......Too bad there's no footage with Abrahams. AND too bad most people don't know Tull (OR Mac.) in their Blues - Rock incarnation....

I always get the chills right at the beginning..😅the flute 🪈 and bass sound brilliant together 👍🏻 great band. cheers.

The way Ian sings this song has always reminded me of Capt. Beefheart.
I agree. Follow the yellow brick road screams Tull to me
Definitely intentional according to Ian's comments.

Clive's drum solo on "Dharma for One" at the 1970 Isle of Wight is killer.

It's certainly Mick Abrams

peculiar to say the least but still brilliant. xxx

This is my MTV
Judging by the Les Paul Junior guitar, that's Martin Barre - don't think I've ever seen any footage of Mick Abrahams with Jethro 1968.
Plus he has a awesome Jacket ...
Correction - that's Martin" Lancelot" Barre not Mick Abrahams.
Dig it, man. (peace sign)

I wish Jethro Tull would jam with Leonard Skinnered and that cat Pink Floyd..

believe it or not it's Tony Iommi. He was the Tull guitarist for a short time in late '68 before leaving to form Black Sabbath.
It's Martin Barre. Iommi only did RARC
Ian Anderson, Mick Abrahams, Glen Cornick and Clive Bunker
