They should re-open the case of Freddy Gray! Those cops MADE that poor guy into a quadriplegic BEFORE he got to the police van! I know what a quad looks like and Freddy being dragged over to the van was obvious and when the were standing him up to “step” into the van it was crystal clear that he was paralyzed!!!!! When those fat cops that weigh a ton put a knee into your back or your neck, things are going to break!
The one thing I sort of disagree about is tasers I say take the guns away.from the police and replace them with tasers..... do like the UK where if guns are required you have to call for a specially trained unit that checks out the guns. I know most people are saying "Oh no that can't work" but it does in other countries. The bottom line is we need to stop militarizing our police and going back to "Support & Service to the Community " The us against them crap has got to stop as well as the blue line cover ups!!!
AAaal! how about considering having REQUIRED continuing education like what we use in the medical professions. we must complete numerous categories of the requisite facets of our professions, every year. then prove certification in each to both our professional and licensing bodies annually or every five years. the payment for these educational requirements can sometimes be gotten from our employers but if not, from our own pockets. failure to accomplish these requirements results in removal from the work schedule until corrected. this is in addition to CPR training and in some places, fire training. i strongly suggest that this rigorous set of requirements be implemented and ASAP. if policing is applied in prescribed ways such as this, the improvements in outcome will be dramatic.
You have neglected reference to a large Native population in the twin cities and Minnesota. That distressed me, as Natives have suffered tremendous police brutality in 150 years. In fact Chauvin has a shooting on his record against a native man. This isnt just about Castillo or George Floyd.
Al you're a great one for a change and this time I mean it!!! You really are great....and by the way I seriously appreciated your talk with Steve Schmidt!! Mayor Carter was a great guest too!! I think they need to stop saying defund the police and say restructure the police to include selling all the tanks and military style equipment...have a huge "yard sale"!!! The training is totally military and us against them mentality. It has to stop period...there are a lot of victims of police brutality and they come in every race, creed and from every state. Of course the black and other people of color are disproportionally affected but the bottom line is the police and their attitudes and what lay at the bottom of it. Yes there are a majority of good cops but even the good cops get dragged into aggressive/ overly aggressive behavior largely due to their recruitment system and training!! In fact two of the officers were fairly new recruits and possibly were in "training" when this murder took place. Everyone is yelling they are all murderers - I have worked for a Sherriff's Office as a crisis intervention /mental health worker and I fully witnessed the pressure put on officers to "obey" their supervisors...like the military not like a "civilian" supervisor. The officer who stood by doesn't warrant the same punishment nor the newbies. If you haven't been in the military or worked with police officers it's too easy to say "they should have stopped it". The murderer is officer Chauvin - the others were basically following orders like they were trained/brainwashed to do. The chain of command is drilled, hammered and indoctrinated into them - that's what has got to stop in policing first! It's easy to say "they should have known better" The peer pressure , indoctrination, and thin blue wall of silence needs to stop - it is a powerful psychological tool. I'm sure my stance will infuriate some people but I have watched and seen first hand how much pressure is put on these people. Yes, I spoke up when I saw things but I wasn't trained by the police or military - by speaking up I was ostracized, harassed and threatened. I don't agree with the training, indoctrination or blue wall of silence but until it's changed in the fundamental recruiting and training practices there is less hope of things truly improving - there might be more "internal investigations" and perhaps more firings and legal charges but it will only be a revolving door. Get to the core to start real change!!
Al Franken, great podcast! I admire Chris Montana for helping his community. I hope I can help, I'll try. It is so true that these things get a lot of coverage, the life goes on and we go back to the same. That must change. And drumf threatened to arrest protesters, idiot! But, when peaceful protest is impossible, violent protest becomes inevitable. But also, I love the intersection that Mayor Melvin is in. No one could accuse him of being anti police, yet he and his families still face the same systemic problems! Ooh, listening about the money in our police and prison system. First, it is a system built by and for slavers. Second, it is for profit and so becomes another form of slavery. And the police are buying into their own propaganda, it is not even close to 'the most dangerous job!'. Pizza delivery, fire fighters, crab fishing, etc. all are more dangerous! Beau of the Fifth Column lays out quick way to reform the police. But the whole system needs reform. 👍🏾👏💝☮️🎃🐝
The "today we have a great one, for a change" verbiage is getting pretty old. It is a 'funny once' kind of joke. Your typical podcast is pretty good. 'Own that' and stop with the semi-phony self-depreciation.
One of your best shows yet, Al.. and this time, I mean it.
Oh boy!!!! Waiting on Sunday morning for the new Al Franken podcast.... LOVE YOU AL and thank you Mayor Carter!!!!!!!
An excellent, honest & ultimately hopeful interview 👍❤️. Thanks Al.
Mr Carter is very impressive. I hope he can step up to state and national leadership.
Always eager to hear what you have to say, Al. And this was a great one..."for a change." :- )

Phone Soap is the funniest gag since Cigarette Aficionado ... LOL
It would be nice if the fund helped businesses damaged by demonstrators as well regardless of the race of the owner.
Hey, Al! I keep getting Trump and McConnell ads on your podcasts. Is that your plan? :)
Wow, I'm sorry for you. I get fxcm ads (b/c I am not in the failed states of america)

It's a shame that there are more material profits and dividends in the prison industrial complex than any kind of social worker network
This guy should have a larger national profile. Good pulse on the problem.
Don't forget the cowboys in LA :)

Should not disparage past guests at the beginning of every show ... /-:

qwertyuiop - probably your spell checker, but the term is self deprecation
Why do you care so much? Lol
