It's pretty damn awesome to think that even back then, the Metal Gear games that were coming out were still placed in a universe with very close ties to our own with heavy themes on violence, politics, nuclear war, child soldiers, existentialism, it's like the Metal Gear Games double as a platform to have philosophical debates, questions, and ideas. It's pretty incredible when you think about it.
+IamCaptainMan It is frightening to think what our current education system is like in Great Britain right now 2016 where debate, questions and ideas are not permitted unless they fit the politically correct agenda.
TABRAO Interesting, you're saying there is no place in the educational system to discuss current events, debate, or anything like that? Is it really looked down upon?
Jack also wanted to break the cycle as stated in MGSV. Venom wants the cycle. I think Jack is more so describing the current state of the world but because Solid is unknowingly working for The Patriots he doesn’t see it that way.
+Sincerely AdDatHom Really? He may have loved it at the time, but after retiring he became a post traumatically stressed alcoholic. The huskies were his therapeutics. The man just killed his father on top of all other things. It took some convincing to bring him out of retirement but do you think he still wanted anything to do with the U.S. Government/Foxhound afterwards.
This is such a crucial game in the Metal Gear Saga. It bridges the gap between the Big Boss era and the first Metal Gear Solid game. I can't imagine anyone skipping this game (or Metal Gear 1) when playing the series in chronological order.
Metal gear 1 is pretty bare bones in terms of story and really only serves to set up things well for the sequel. I’d recommend playing it but all that needs to be known about it could be summed up in two to three sentences
It weirded me out at first, but I remembered that Snake has a line earlier in the game when he says Madnar shaped himself up, meaning Madnar probably worked out a little bit. From what I know Snake is only 5' 10" or 5' 11", while Madnar seems to be taller than him. I think it makes sense that a bigger guy could choke a smaller guy. Had this been rendered in modern MGS style, the scene probably would've had Snake throw Madnar off his back, or escape the grip.
For the times this game's plot is amazing. Putting aside the silly names, we have a plot dealing with horrors of war, politics, and that the side the hero is fighting isn't automatically the good guys with the number of villains we see who have been burned by the western world. Big Boss doesn't get a lot of screen time in this game but what he does fleshes him out as a horrifying villain who wants to perpetuate war so soldiers have a place, an idea we would see fleshed out more in later games. Solid Snake getting more dialogue sets him up as the jaded bitter man who lost so much by the end of this game that he just wants to retire.
I love how the change the original mug shots to look like the current characters, I remember snake looking a lot like Mel Gibson and big boss like Sean Connery in the original
Personally, I want them to remake the Metar Gear 1 and 2 after Phantom Pain, as a sort of finishing touch to the series. It would be cool to see Snake in his younger days in a 3D form
Kojima finishing off the series....where it all first began! that would be incredible, especially seeing a young solid snake with david hayter coming back!
Watching this to get ready to play MGS a second time, and I yelled "NOOOOO!!" out loud at the bridge with Gustava. It's been mentioned, but so much DNA seen in MGS titles shine through here.
Honestly, if they ever remade these first two games in the current engine that Kojima uses, I think these games would do well with emulating the 70's/80's style of ridiculous, bombastic appeal of odd characters with the story telling that Kojima brings to the table with every game he makes. It'd be ridiculous with top notch voice acting and brilliant, redesigned game mechanics.

+Ugluk Zo Rug AdDatHom I think it's a matter of contrast. Boss was always a bit awkward. If you pay a good amount of attention with BB in his games and Solid Snake in his games, they both have similarities, but not just physically, they share some personal attributes too. They are loyal to the cause they fight for, but to contrast- Boss was always more methodical and careful, like how he acted around EVA during Snake Eater and how he was easily able to detect Professor Galvez' white lies and such in Peace Walker. He never stayed until he same place long (figuratively speaking), he was always a step ahead, hence his plan to orchestrate the events of MGSV to create his phantom, and have that BB lead his legacy while he kept in the dark, creating his army on his own with little help. Solid Snake was just as strong as his father, but he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed compared to BB. Snake is definitely smart, but he kind of relies on Otacon for Intel so he can plan accordingly.

This game is so awesome! I've beaten it two times and with MGSV on the way, I wanna do it again. The atmosphere, the music and the characters are all tight!
Thank you for this. This and mgs2 are my favorites in the series and this is a great video to send people who don't have the means or time to play mg2ss.
Yeah they’re such an improvement from the first game where the bosses were borderline broken with how bad they were. Granted everything in this game is a huge improvement from the first so it makes sense
Hey there. If you wish you can check out my 'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990)' walkthrough guide on my channel. It is the original European version of the game on the MSX2. I tried to make it as short and helpful as possible while also going through all the main story dialogue. I hope you guys find some help from it. If you have any questions just post a comment. Thank you.
does the epiloge remind anyone else of kojima? "he really loved games from the bottom of his hearth" "he was entangled in a pointless political game... and it cost him his life(carrer)" feels like kojima predicted his own future
So Big Boss was the one who set the main idea for the war economy...create war, war create victims, save the victims, train them and then send them to the battelfield, now i understand why Big Boss become a fallen legend
Note 1:All scene was given by 3rdy that longplay of this game Note 2:Creator has cut some scene that 3rdy enter the game saving screen, get a game over, building site change screen, building floor change screen or mistaken to doing something
The original Metal Gear, even though the story was very bare bones, was much more epic because the TX was terrifying to look at, and the ending where big boss is standing in the room waiting to kill you, it felt legitimately like an 80s action movie.
+Rasuke11 Why the fuck do you comment on everyone elses' comments? Why do you have such an obsession over a virtual "female" videogame character? Priorities, man. This is perfect! thank you!! I wanted to see this games story but with the updated characters and translation of the one included in the MGS3 Subsistance version. Thanks again!
fun fact: at 7:56 that girl's name is Holly White. Holly White is the exact name of Walther White's daughter in Breaking Bad. Kojima loves Breaking Bad.
Thanks for the video! 'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake' is my favourite game in the series. It's one of the most underrated/overlooked games of all time, people don't realize how much of a masterpiece this game is. Also what version of the game did you use?
elviade Very good point. I didn't even think about the fact that Madnar stops in the middle. I initially thought it was just him looking back for a second. I thought the Metal Gear blew up the bridge since it walked up immediately after the explosion, but your explanation makes sense, thanks.
elviade I think you're wrong. There's a shot coming from above on the screen that means it's just Metal Gear which destroys the bridge. Maybe Gray Fox didn't even see there was somebody on, maybe he was only ordered to shoot after Madnar had passed.
Wish konami would remake metal gear 1/2, the story materials are there, now that kojima is no longer with them, n people would jump on the opportunity to experience this games in a more modern way
You know, the more I think about it, Kiefer Sutherland as Big Boss does make perfect sense. I mean, Jack Bauer was a man willing to use violence and torture to get what he wants. Now that makes him a hero in 24, but in a pacifistic series like Metal Gear...
+CF-105 Games Maybe you translated it by yourself already, but here you go. When Snake calls Marv: Marv Here. What should I do? We just want peace. We are just doing our job. I hope you will save me. My friend. Dear friend! Gustava and Marv: Gustava: Gustava here. Gustava: Mr. doctor! Are you okay? (literally: How you feel?) Marv: Thank you. I feel fine. Gustava. You are looking good. Gustava: Where are you? Mr. doctor? (Mr. doctor sounds so retarded, but it is like that in czech) Marv: There is a crevasse by north towers. There is a concentration camp on the other side. There I am. Gustava: We will rescue you. Marv: I am grateful. Thank you.
Who the Hell cares Thanks. I never translated it, I meant to but then things in life happens (such as my father suddenly getting sick and then dying on me last month) that I never had the chance to do it.
Who the Hell cares Thanks. Just talking about it helps the healing I suppose although you can't replace someone once they are gone. I haven't been playing many games since it happened. I still have to finish The Phantom Pain yet as the last 2 months have been stressful thanks to his illness and now death.
Metal Gear Solid 1 takes most of the credit that this game deserves, even though I do like MGS1 better for the cinematic elements, this game has a fantastic story and most of the gameplay from MGS1 except FPS, CQC, and wall flattening.
If you really think about it Big boss while flawed and unintentionally bad had some good intentions for the kids in Zanzibar land. They are former child soldiers and war orphans many wouldn't take them to be raised ,Big Boss first see's them as children then future soldiers he wants them to have purpose in life whether as a soldier or civilian.
If Hideo Kojima is remaking Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 for PS3/PS4 seeing the fights between Big Boss (Voiced by Keifer Sutherland) and Solid Snake (Voiced by David Hayter) will be so badass!!
MGS retcons the intro of this. According to this, there are no nuclear powers anymore, Zanzibar Land steals the remaining nukes and becomes the world's only nuclear power. But in MGS and future games this is ignored. Unless all the countries re-armed themselves with nukes after this.
this game is a re-edition of the original game.for the photos of solid snake and holly white... but the gameplay is same. This game was raunched in Metal Gear Solid 3.
Kaz is a conundrum in GZ - he clearly knows what Paz is doing, yet at the same time he acts shocked for Snake's sake. It might simply be a case of him being a triple agent. But listen to the closing phone convo at the end of PW - Kaz is clearly doing business with Zero.

Old people can be very strong lol. And what's not to say Madnar picked up a little cqc from big boss?
Dr Madnar vs Solid Snake.
Madnar wins.
That most adult serious 8 bit game ever
He took Metal Gear down with a handful of grenades... If Kojima is going to remake this, this would be funny to see.
Because he is Solid Snake, bitch
Yes
It was trip playing this AFTER MGS1. Because I was able to really realize the gaps I had when I first played MGS1. So much went over my head until I played this game and it all clicked.
I love the bosses on here! Would be awesome to have a Metal Gear/ Metal Gear 2 remake!!!
Yeah they’re such an improvement from the first game where the bosses were borderline broken with how bad they were. Granted everything in this game is a huge improvement from the first so it makes sense
Well, the music is really neat o-o
10:28
Were those the children we save in MGS 5? Obviously Liquid got away al right...
Thank you.
No one likes you.
dooshtoomun I did not ask to be liked. It's a guide to help people with the game...
XD it actually helped a lot. Thank you!
Hal Emmerich I'm happy to hear that. You're welcome!
23:10
Kid continues to walk casually toward an explosion. lol
After hearing about how annoying some parts of this game are I am glad that this exists.
Thanks so much for uploading these!
Love how Gray Fox and Snake have a heart to heart then fox explodes😂
Wait, NASA has an Extraterrestrial Terrain Special Forces Unit? NASA has Space Ninjas?! (Seriously, lol Hideo-San)
+elviade brain bombs too
@elviade well do you want to say that in Yugoslavia there were candies?
Yes
Love the intro!
does the epiloge remind anyone else of kojima?
"he really loved games from the bottom of his hearth"
"he was entangled in a pointless political game... and it cost him his life(carrer)"
feels like kojima predicted his own future
Well... I guess that changed xD
@@RenanBullit11 How did that change at all.
7:49
What the fuck?! They even took inspiration from the theme of Terminator.
So Big Boss was the one who set the main idea for the war economy...create war, war create victims, save the victims, train them and then send them to the battelfield, now i understand why Big Boss become a fallen legend
Note 1:All scene was given by 3rdy that longplay of this game
Note 2:Creator has cut some scene that 3rdy enter the game saving screen, get a game over, building site change screen, building floor change screen or mistaken to doing something
The original Metal Gear, even though the story was very bare bones, was much more epic because the TX was terrifying to look at, and the ending where big boss is standing in the room waiting to kill you, it felt legitimately like an 80s action movie.
Amanda looks like meryl
WOOPS meant to say Amanda looks like Meryl :P
+Rasuke11 Why the fuck do you comment on everyone elses' comments? Why do you have such an obsession over a virtual "female" videogame character? Priorities, man. Real-life priorities, like not wasting time on youtube; commenting on everyone's shit just to state your point. You're like those Quiet extremists.
Kyle247l you're edgy
Tomboys
I'm so glad they found a way to include soldier mannequins in the story.
Kind of a bummer they didn't remake the older games would have been cool to see more of gray fox with better gameplay and graphics.
Kefka: Metal Gear 2 The Movie Full Story
Also Kefka: Skips through text
MG 2 is highly underrated!
I would like to see these 2 be remake and have loud gunshot to alert enemies, environment takes place in 1995 and 1999
17:52 The original MG games were chock full of surprises who would have expected Arnold Schwarzenegger to show up.
This is perfect! thank you!! I wanted to see this games story but with the updated characters and translation of the one included in the MGS3 Subsistance version. Thanks again!
Dude your MG movie videos are so cool :) It´s my favorite freaking saga of all time.
Suscribed. :DDD
The Gustava bathroom scene is the same exact scene with Meryl on MGS1 xD
fun fact: at 7:56 that girl's name is Holly White. Holly White is the exact name of Walther White's daughter in Breaking Bad. Kojima loves Breaking Bad.
TubedFisch umm, I think this came out before Breaking Bad.
of course it did... long time before. I would have liked to see kojimas reaction when the baby got her name in the series.
@@MobySlick Probably didn't react. I'd say it's a common combination, that or he just forgot who Holly was
Thanks for the video!
'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake' is my favourite game in the series. It's one of the most underrated/overlooked games of all time, people don't realize how much of a masterpiece this game is.
Also what version of the game did you use?
IM GONNA MISS SOLID SNAKE SO MUCH BECAUSE HE IS THE LEGEND & A HERO TOO.
So wait.. Frank Jaeger killed the woman he loved with Metal Gear? Why did he do that?
its MGS thts why!
elviade Very good point. I didn't even think about the fact that Madnar stops in the middle. I initially thought it was just him looking back for a second. I thought the Metal Gear blew up the bridge since it walked up immediately after the explosion, but your explanation makes sense, thanks.
He unknowingly killed the woman he loved, its a bit of an ironic twist.
elviade I think you're wrong. There's a shot coming from above on the screen that means it's just Metal Gear which destroys the bridge. Maybe Gray Fox didn't even see there was somebody on, maybe he was only ordered to
shoot after Madnar had passed.
aditya chalke
Actually, this predates Metal Gear Solid.
Gray Fox: heartfelt farewell, blows up*
blew me away as even three decades back KOJIMA saw the potential of games as story tellers.
Awesome Metal Gear 2 The Movie [HD] Full Story Video.
Now that makes him a hero in 24, but in a pacifistic series like Metal Gear...
what happened to the brooch that changes shape?
One of the most badass christmas movies ever
0:29:37 funny to read a language that i can understand. It is also quite good translated into czech language. :)
+psychonaut25
What does it say??? I want to know.
+CF-105 Games Maybe you translated it by yourself already, but here you go.
When Snake calls Marv:
Marv Here. What should I do? We just want peace. We are just doing our job. I hope you will save me. My friend. Dear friend!
Gustava and Marv:
Gustava: Gustava here.
Gustava: Mr. doctor! Are you okay? (literally: How you feel?)
Marv: Thank you. I feel fine. Gustava. You are looking good.
Gustava: Where are you? Mr. doctor? (Mr. doctor sounds so retarded, but it is like that in czech)
Marv: There is a crevasse by north towers. There is a concentration camp on the other side. There I am.
Gustava: We will rescue you.
Marv: I am grateful. Thank you.
Who the Hell cares
Thanks. I never translated it, I meant to but then things in life happens (such as my father suddenly getting sick and then dying on me last month) that I never had the chance to do it.
+CF-105 Games I'm sorry to hear that.
Who the Hell cares
Thanks.
This is Solid Snake... Come in.
Konami I want remakes on the FOX engine !
Nice, keep up the great production bro!
16:28 Hind D is ready to takeoff. Prepare for yourself!
Did I read Chobham Armor? Gundam NT1 Alex much??? lelelel
55:40 Every Breath You Take with a Twin Peaks feel.
all those advanced schematics... then the metal gear reveal at 2:34 is... a mecha toad
▪️
Mecha toad ?
⬛️
Parts of the intro have obviously been retconned. Like Zanzibar land being the worlds only nuclear power.
They went down to the cellar for some Popsicles!!!
compliments of Herbert
HORYSHIET I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.
If I was playing this game and they had me chasing a fucking pigeon, I'd rage quit so hard. lol
Back when Solid Snake was powerful enough to punch a man out of existence!
20:14 "Im changing the frequency for our future communications" cant read what he says next. help
Campbell:
The new frequency can be found in
a photo in the software
manual...Over and out.
alPhaZERO713 thx m8
The text is going way too fast. I have to pause the video all the time :(
Yes
Another must-watch now that MGS V is about to launch!
19:43 Solid Snake:I'm back here to take you down!
They lied lol
this game is a re-edition of the original game.for the photos of solid snake and holly white... but the gameplay is same. This game was raunched in Metal Gear Solid 3.
"Raunched"?
And MGS3: Subsistence as well. It just looked/sounded like Engrish to me.
Wonder whatever happened to Holly. . . and what made Master Miller betray Big Boss? Hmm. . . .
Evil Smith After the credits in Peace Walker, you find out out that Miller was actually an agent of Zero.
Kaz is a conundrum in GZ - he clearly knows what Paz is doing, yet at the same time he acts shocked for Snake's sake. It might simply be a case of him being a triple agent. But listen to the closing phone convo at the end of PW - Kaz is clearly doing business with Zero.
Evil Smith Nick Green is right. At the very end after the real ending of peace walker, there is this phone call between zero and miller, where miller aswell gives price that he knowns about les enfants terribles.
Another reason may be the fact that Big Boss becomes evil and psychotic and Miller leaves
+TubedFisch What?! When? I finished peace walker with the true ending and miller did no such thing. could you send a link to a video? I'm a bit confused
This is the best Metal Gear ever!
