I am about to finish a knife for a friend and was trying to think of something different for the leather. This video came at the perfect time. I always try to make something a little different each time.
I love this episode. I made this pattern and it worked out very well. Could you demonstrate how to design a knife sheath for a knife that does not have a straight handle. Like a slightly curved offset handle to the blade. Just cuz all knives don’t have straight handles. Thank you. Jim Trantham, Prescott, Az.
@@viktorgeorge9144 most any kind of sheath. I’m finding when I make a sheath for a knife with a curved handle the spine of the blade doesn’t necessarily lay straight against the sheath causing gaps inside. I really like your welting design ideas and I think that might solve some of the looseness fitting. Also a knife that has a slightly curved blade causes issues as well…. I’ve watched everyone of your videos and have discovered many many useful ideas and skills that improve my construction methods. Sorry for the delay Jim Seems like something always gets in the way of my leatherwork 😂 I’m trying to find a knife for demonstrating your question. It’s on my list of future videos. Thanks! Will you be at the Trade show in Prescott?
I enjoy your videos very much. I am new to leather work, only to make knife sheaths for the knives I make. Your method of laying out patterns has been very useful to me.

I built the positive lock but as you said in one of your videos 'trust in the pattern' and i questioned it and I decided the rise was to much so I trimmed it out a little and now it doesn't get that positive lock LOL oh and I wind up making it left handed something i totally wasn't even thinking about which is fine but i tooled the leather and it looks great .... epic fail maybe... many lessons learned absolutely... it would be nice if i could post a picture of it cause it does look really cool...

Thank you for that kjuhler and I appreciate that sincerely We are all just amateur’s here and copy away my friend It’s how we get better and develop our own way
Is there any way to cut semi-circle slots for infinite cant adjustment or do you need to punch holes at a predetermined angle (or multiple holes at the clock angles)? Also, that system should also work with your more complex sheaths (not the "taco"). Good vid! I will be trying this.
Thanks Jeff I always appreciate sheath banter. The only way I have done these is with the holes to angle the sheath Many angle variations to choose. Normally I get asked for 3 positions I think someone smarter then me could design something more efficient 😂
An alternative method for the T-nuts, is to use 1 piece of 8-10 oz leather. Use your back plate w/holes as a template for where to punch the holes. Then trim the leather, leaving enough room for stitch holes. It’s a tad more sewing, the T-nuts will easily find the holes in the back plate. 🫡
Good to see you back. Always enjoy the adaptability and quality of your work. Do you think this style could be used for a small revolver or automatic cross draw holster? Hope all continues well at home. Thanks.
I appreciate the kind words Mark Thank you That’s an interesting thought I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a small liteweight gun. Would probably need a few more anchor points but should work!!! Thanks for the banter my friend
I enjoy your video they are giving me a lot of help in my leather work can you tell me were you get your rulers you use in the videos plz send me link thanks
Thanks Ric for the kind words and I’m so glad they’re helpful to you. I purchased most of the graph see thru rulers from Hobby Lobby, Walmart and various office supply stores Not very saavy with the online links 😂
Great idea. One question. When you add the lock tight, does that make it harder to change the position or will a standard screw driver just undo the placement and you can add more lock tight on the new position. Thanks!
Thanks for the engagement Yes the “blue” loctite can be undone with a good fitting screwdriver ( unlike the one I used on the video😉) Red loctite is almost permanent from what I’m told. I only use blue
Of course The tee nuts are easily sourced at places like Home Depot, Ace or Lowe’s and various holster supply outlets I routinely use 1/4” shaft with 8/32nd thread which fits standard Chicago Screws with a 3/8th ” screw. These are also available at SpringfieldLeather Co or Tandy. Online searches yield many sources like buckleguy.com Best of luck and have fun

As always, great video!
Thanks again for sticking around. Thanks for the kind words
Briliant, Sir, Thank you so much...🙏 Warm regard from Indonesia
So nice of you of you to say so Thank you!!

excellent video! greetings from Mexico
Hello neighbor!! Thank you my friend
Thank you. I so appreciate my fellow leather workers and the sharing of ideas I always look forward to these Thanks again
@ I’m pretty sure I learned more from you than the other way around 🫡
Great job your a master craftsman
Thanks Richard I’m not sure of that my friend but I appreciate the nod nonetheless 🙌
Nice project. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Rick Absolutely my pleasure
Another great project. Thank you.
Appreciate that Russell You’re welcome
Nice
Thank you Ed Hope is was helpful
Awesome build!
Thanks Todd Too much fun
Have you thought about something similar for holsters
Interesting idea Gerald Possibly for a small pocket pistol type firearm I’d use at least 3 anchor points too.
Thanks!
You bet Thank you!
Do you mind telling me where you sourced the t nuts and bolts?
Of course The tee nuts are easily sourced at places like Home Depot, Ace or Lowe’s and various holster supply outlets I routinely use 1/4” shaft with 8/32nd thread which fits standard Chicago Screws with a 3/8th ” screw. These are also available at SpringfieldLeather Co or Tandy. Online searches yield many sources like buckleguy.com Best of luck and have fun
Great idea I will try this next time I do something
Thanks for your continued support. I’m glad it’s something you’ll try
