As usual I've never thought of that. Wow it's amazing how good it looks. Thanks again !!! P.S. when you get time shoot me a text I've had an accident and all my contacts got wiped out. Thanks again!
Thanks Mason It’s a fun process too, since I don’t have to be neat:) I’ll send a text for your contacts.
Hi Victor. Wonderful tutorial! I followed your directions for a KBar knife I made for my son in law. It was the first full-size jnife sheath I’ve made and it turned out beautifully…except for one thing. Like your example, I installed two name tag magnets, but it turned out pretty difficult to remove the knife. It for sure couldn’t have been withdrawn if the sheath was hanging on a belt. I removed all the stitches, carefully sliced the sheath open, the removed the bottom pair, glued and stitched it back together. Unfortunately, it STILL is difficult to draw the knife. I guess I’ll have to cut it again, pull out the bar, cut it in half and only use one magnet. I say this mostly as a head’s up for someone else that may be making this same sheath.
Hello Alan Sorry to hear of your difficulties but I’m curious about the magnets you used Were they the badge magnets? Those shouldn’t have been strong enough to lock it in like you described I’d love to dwelve alittle deeper into what could have caused that Thanks for your kind words If you have Instagram @viktorgeorgeleathergoods direct message me
😊
Wouldn't Fiebing's Antique achieve the same results?
Will try that on next adventure with leather. Think it would look good with a leg bone knife I made.
So I know you eyeballed the cant angle but how would you go about measuring it for different lays? Is it the angle from the top of 1 belt loop to the other?
That is correct Or draw a straight line thru the slots on your pattern as well as drawing a 90 degree horizontal baseline The angle between those two lines is your cant Hope that makes sense
Good video. Cool. God bless. From Glenn CATT. In Massachusetts.
Nice
Thank you Ed Hope is was helpful
thanks..
what caliber was the ammo?
That wax looks better than the antique wax.
It does impart a dull effect which I like This and the uneven wood staining of the leather gives it the appearance of being somewhat glazed as old patina Sure is fun experimenting with it to get the perfect effect
Does this give a different look than antique?
It does The oily stain or pigment of the furniture wax settles deep into the stamping impressions and if there are fat wrinkles in the hide it’ll effect that as well When it dries there’s a dirty glazed look that I don’t get with leather antique Definitely not something to use if you want a finished look
Thank you so much. Great tip! Was wondering if you have ever tried Minwax Finishing Wax. It is quite a bit cheaper and appears to come in different colors. Thank you.
@@mikemais84 Thank you Mike I’ve never tried Minwax but the next time I’m in the city I’ll pick up a can to try. I love experimenting with different things so Thanks again for the suggestion 🙌
Appreciate that . I’ve been using it on my carvings for years never entered my mind to try it on leather. Thanks as usual.
Another great video!
Thanks Stephen Just something to ponder
That looks great! I’ll give this a try
It’s fun to experiment with different shades and degrees of stain
Good tip George!
Thanks Jeff I enjoy the experimentation of it’s different affects
Really great lesson George…thanks
Great tips i have to try that 👍🏻and it looks fun to do alsow , now bed time here in sweden night
Thanks Jonas It’s a different look for sure Kinda rough, uneven gives a old patina look Thanks my friend and good night
Wonderful tutorial. Very well made.
I really enjoy your videos. A person can learn from you. Seems like you are a down to earth person Thank you for that
Thank you Larry Very kind of you to say. I’m glad they are helpful and keep making my friend
Nice! Love it
Glad you liked it! Thanks
Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT. In Massachusetts.
Always kind words and supportive Thank you!!
I really like the way you present everything,, makes making easy thank you
Very good video. Was wondering how it would work. I've got an airbrush, will have to play with it. Thanks again.
Thanks Larry it’s wonderful imho and I think you’ll be happy with the results
I started airbrushing my leather about 6 months ago after I had watched Makers Leather show how to do it. It's the only way to go in my book now. I use far less dye and the colors I use are true to the color I want. As you mentioned it dries fast and easy to use. No more chasing those dauber streaks and wind up using far more dye than what I needed and losing the original color I wanted. I also enjoy the fact that you can do the fading technique around the edges. As usual another great video.
Thanks my friend You described it perfectly and whenever I airbrush something, even at a basic level, I think about all the “chased streaks” of the old dauber daze 🤣 Thanks again Tim
Hello JMB I appreciate your comment and your input will give me something to research and study I’ve never heard those terms before so that should confirm my FNG status 😂 My goal was to have highlights and lowlights as I find complete one color coverage boring Thanks again for taking the time to share this and it really gives me somewhere to go
As a custom painter from decades ago. No comment. The airbrush has strokes, most use it as a small spray can, like you are doing. Your inside corners are not getting coverage. If you took a few minutes to warm up and use the airbrush properly your coverage would be even including inside corners. Dagger strokes are crucial for blending. Daggers, dots (small to big and back to small), and I always do some lettering as this is the easiest warm up since you already know how to write it allows you to focus on perfect strokes. Then when you think you are warmed up...add a perfect drop shadow to your lettering. Good luck
To mark the outside 1/2" outline you can use a set of dividers or a compass that will hold a pencil it makes it faster and easier.
Thank you James I think that’s a great idea and could make life easier indeed I always appreciate helpful banter that someone could benefit from🙌
I'm a newbie to leathercraft and your videos have helped me no end. I also turn delrin plastic on my lathe at home for another hobby and seeing your plastic burnishers has given me some inspiration to experiment. Keep the great vids coming. Thanks again!!!
Thanks Mike! I’m so glad they’re helpful to ya! I think turning Delrin into burnishing sticks could be quite handy and unique too Never hesitate to reach out if need be and Keep Making I’m easy enough to reach by dm on Instagram under @viktorgeorgeleathergoods
@@viktorgeorge9144Thats fantastic. Thanks very much indeed.
Very helpful content, and great job on a first video!
NOWi could follow nice and slow instructive not like see how fast i go now have to figure out to do it with 1 hand😱
Gotta get one. Thanks so much
Thanks John I think it’ll change the game for ya as it did mine So much potential here
Congratulations on a nice job I wanted to ask you how many millimeters thick is the skin?
Excellent! Thanks for sharing this.
I appreciate that John Thanks
I just airbrushed a holster earlier this week. I think you saw it on Facebook. The airbrush really opens up some new possibilities when it comes to dying leather work.
It truly is a game changer for this ole dip & dauber dyer 🙌
I have airbrushed for a long time , never thuoght of doing it on my leather . Have one ready to go shortly , will be doing that . Thank you
Thanks Nicholas With your experience with one you’ll come out the gate swingin🙌
One thing I like with using an air brush for leather is getting 2-3 different tone colors. Much like a Fender Stratocaster guitar 3 tone color finish.
That’s my favorite part of that several shades and can never be replicated by dauber!! Thanks
I got an airbrush and I love it. Can't stress enough ventilation and a mask. I tried it out in my small workshop with neither and after a minute I thought I was gonna cough up a lung. Don't make the mistake I did. Now I do it outside and with a mask
That is so true That atomized dye vapor goes deep I should have given more time to discuss that other then a written banner across screen Thanks my friend!
Glad you posted missed the videos. The tutorial was very informative.
Thanks Mark I appreciate your support and I’m glad to be back
Thanks!
Thanks Matt Your support is valued my friend 🙌🙌
Nice to know George! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you my friend 🙌🙌
The paper sack is just enouth fri tion to polish the sande sdge, I believe ...
Thanks AgaIn, George, for a detailed loom at pattern creation. Templates are nice, but it's better to be able to create any style of sheath, to suit yourself or a client's taste. You're method allows that while still insuring a safe, reliable item!
Thank you John Sorry I’m late to responding but I so appreciate your kind words Yes indeed learning to draw these gives one the freedom to be more creative You Rock!!
Very professional work
Thanks! Just trying to make each new product alittle better each time That’s all of our goals🙌🙌
Hi Mentor, it's me here. Thank you for sharing the great video, tips and tricks. ❤
Thank you my Mentor Nguyen! I appreciate you greatly
Almost litle scarry ! Yesterday i wrote to you and asked about a tips for a sprayer and today you lay out a video ! And a great video 💪🏻i have to get one air brush thats for sure 👍🏻
Haha Yes Jonas and Thank you! After you get one you’ll wish, like me, that you’d started sooner It’s great for these type of goods
awesome. thanks
Heck yeah Gary Thanks brother
👍👍👍 Nice video.
Thank you Finn for the kind words
Thanks Viktor
Thanks David I appreciate that
Does the color levels stay true during drying? Looks good.
Thank you Frank Yes the colors stay true and consistent No dauber dying can match it I usually stay with traditional browns but using blue, yellow (Fiebings Buckskin) and red are bright and look great too Plus it dries in minutes and uses less dye
Have you done a buck 117 sheath ? I really like the 119 one you did . But I guess that sheath can be done for any buck hey .
Yes Thanks I’m making one for the Buck 124 their biggest knife🙌 I appreciate the support!
