Howie was that sports fan that got the big break and it was well deserved. Stump the Schwab is total nostalgia. Loved seeing all the tributes to him this past weekend from former and current people that worked with him.
I worked on the same editorial floor with Howie from 1982-1987. This was before ESPN. He was involved with College and Pro Football Weekly. He worked with Mike Francesa and Russell Baxter. Howie took his work very seriously and was a very good person. I was saddened to find out that he had passed away.
I'll never forget Stump the Schwab, I was bummed when it went away, it was & still is my favorite sports trivia show ever made. The person that would face off with Howie at the end never stood a chance, lol, he literally knew it all... it was shocking when he'd miss a question. Thanks for the fun Howie #RIPLegend
God. Just a couple days ago an episode of Stump the Schwab came across my RUclips feed and I clicked so fast. Hadn’t seen that show in many years but I would always be sure to watch on the days I was home from school in time. It wasn’t until I read the comments, many of which offering condolences for him and his family, that I learned of Schwab’s passing. As many have already detailed in the comments here, Stump the Schwab was absolutely essential and classic ESPN content. It was an integral part of the love I developed for sports and many times my dad would call me “Schwab” given my enthusiasm for NBA and MLB trivia. Eternal thanks to Howie for the influence as well as developing and sharing his gift, in turn helping to make ESPN the juggernaut it was for all of us.
Ohhhhh mannnn stump the schwab was one of my favorite shows. So much knowledge it was crazy haha and you can tell he cared when he would, rarely get one wrong. Rip legend
Stump the Schwab was my favorite show as a kid, dude was so knowledgeable about every sport not just the major ones, I wanted them to bring the show back, long love Howie and Stuart 🙏🏽
I went to college at St John’s with Howie. Met him afterwards when he was writing for College & Pro Football Newsweekly. He was a great guy! Sad to hear of his passing. R.I.P.
Oh wow, I had no clue and just this week have been looking up old episodes of Stump the Schwab. That's eerie. I hadn't seen it since it aired but it just popped in my head this week.
@brentturner7232: Seventies too. Every once so often "Seventies" themed Answers popped up on "STS." I miss this guy very much as Howie Schwab was the Sports version of Alex Trebek. And both are gone now.😔👨🎓🏈🏀⚾️🎱🏐⚽️🏒🎾🏌️♂️🏌️♀️⛳🏂⛷🏇⛹️♂️⛹️♀️📺B.W.

Kids these days will have no idea the impact SportsCenter had on us 90s kids.

For real. Being someone that was born in 1980 watching SC in the 90s and early 2000s was just a ritual.
Just now seeing this. R.I.P. Schwab 😢🙏🏻❤️
You can really hear the hurt in Dan's voice. I'm so sorry Dan.
Well said Dan! He will be missed
My deepest sympathies on your loss Dan.

RIP Howie Schwab .
what did he die of? I'm 46 years old and all the guys I grew up watching are dying. Really makes me sad. RIP Howie Schwab
What do you think?
Did anyone ever beat dude at sports trivia? He was amazing
Dan Needles from Milwaukee did.
RIP The Schwab
Did he die suddenly?
ESPN used to be great until they hired everyone based on race. Now it’s unwatchable.
He was fat out of shape and hadn’t visited the gym since the Nixon administration. Not surprised he died sadly. RIP
jew.
*Bonus points for him then!*
I didn’t even know he was sick.
Had been declining, died of heart attack
