      She’s making great money now, but because she chose her own unsecured path…very brave for sure. She sees the thirst for knowledge on health that we are extremely deprived of in an enormously immoral way. Brave for sure but it’ll prove to be extremely lucrative for her, and rightly so. Just hope she doesn’t lead people out of one rabbit hole only to take us down into another.
      I’m all ears for her, but not blindly.

    I stopped all processed foods on 1-1-2021 and I’ve lost 117 lbs to date. Easiest weight loss I’ve ever experienced in my life! No bread, no sugar, no soy...I switched to an anti inflammatory diet halfway through. Love how I feel now!!

    I’m active, healthy and the same weight I was in college, 50 years ago. I have always eaten Whole Foods, avoided pesticides, chemicals and kept away from pharmaceuticals.

    It took 6 months of low carb eating to change my taste for sugar. It IS possible. I stopped eating traditional bread, sugar and starches like rice, potatoes. I do eat fruit occasionally but that's it. I dropped 42lbs in those 6 months. I feel SO much better.

      I’m in a similar boat! I was healthy until I was almost 30 and over the past few years have had to deal with arthritis and celiac disease. I also accidentally discovered that my hormone imbalance wasn’t normal and that was a surprisingly easy fix.

    When my daughter went to public school (during the pandemic) I was shocked when they started sending lunches and breakfast home. Breakfasts were cereal bars..not even like nutrigrain but lucky charms fused together with marshmallow and frosted! And the lunches weren't any better.

    I'm retired. I worked for the Department of Corrections for 30 years. Nobody was exposed to more covid than I was. Not event a New York City Hospital! We had a covid outbreak. I had almost 600 positive cases... (including my live in girlfriend) I'm on the carnivore diet. Almost every body around me got covid except me (knock on wood!!) I contribute this to high vitamin D, Fresh air, no carbs, saturated fat.

      I work in sales meeting 30-50 people a day and I can confirm that Vitamin D (with K2, Magnesium, micronutrients, Sodium, Potassium rich food, enough Hydration, fresh air!, Some Sunlight!), and food that doesn’t stress out the metabolic system like high carb (and low fiber).
      And covid didn’t get me into hospital but grapes 🍇 in season from my neighbor supposedly got my kidneys infected (when a stone blocked it).
      God help us 🙏

      I never got covid either and I'm 67 and had no shots. I had direct exposure for 2 hours with my symptomatic and covid positive daughter. My serum D is optimal and my supplements are fantastic. I do a Mediterranean diet but have not eliminated carbs.

    My wife was at death's door 6 years ago with heart problems. After some tests, her heart Doctor told her she needed to eat a vegetarian diet immediately. She was told to watch Forks Over Knives. We switched our diet that night. She fully recovered within a year. Her family doctor could not understand how she did this. She got "OFF SIX PRESCRIPTIONS."
    One doctor laughed at her when she stated she was a vegetarian. She told him to look up her test results from last year. He laughed again and looked her up on the computer. He went silent and changed the subject.
    Our local hospital started classes teaching people to use good food to get well. They stated that 80% of sickness is caused by bad food. Good food will fix it.
    If the medical institutions are working with the fast food companies to keep us sick, WHY DID YOU BELIEVE THEM WHEN IT CAME TO THE COVID VACCINE?

    Everyone around me is literally falling apart, even the teenagers I know...... It's terrifying and most have NO idea they are literally dying a slow death...... So happy I had a breakthrough 4 years ago and was able to get REAL health info and learn about IF!

      @@dcar144000 I am making progress 😅 I begged her to do the keto for two weeks that dr. Berg suggested on his channel. I also got my brother to help me by doing it at the same time and she lost like 10lbs and my brother also lost a lot. She said only two weeks right? And my brother said well it’s working it’s not hard and I like my results so I’ll keep doing it and she kinda got peer pressured lol. It also helped that I was cooking all the meals at first so she was waited on hand and foot. I’ve caught her cheating a few times but she has stopped drinking soda as far as I can tell and is continuing to follow the diet. Her friends saw the change and they are starting to do healthy keto also and she feels a sense of importance when she gives them advice lmao 🤣 She isn’t perfect but it’s a huge change from before and she has seen a lot of improvements in her health in such a short time. I am very thankful but I also put in a ton of effort into making sure it was easy for her. 😅

She has continued to lose weight since and is fitting Into her old clothes now and I think that the results are really boosting her to keep going. I also had to switch out a few things she couldn’t live w out before w aren’t the best but better and in doing so have made it doable and also since she is not eating carbs or sugar (as much ) she has less cravings and more will power.

    Back in the mid 90s I was at Barnes & Noble and I had a stack of diet books in front of me. This senior man, maybe in his late 70s, who was a retired nutritionist, handed me a book he was ready: 40 - 40 - 30. it was about balancing your meals which balances your glucose. Avoiding glucose spikes. Exactly what you’re talking about. I read it and never could go back “diet foods”.

    I am from the Netherlands. I visited America several times and indeed the food with you guys is way worse but some sooooo yummy. I was guilty of iHop and Applebee's ribs.
    But if you love healthy stuff try this simple healthy parsley pesto:
    15 grams of parsley (bit more is ok like 25gr as I noticed)
    70 grams of walnuts
    1 clove of garlic (can do two)
    50 grams of Parmesan-cheese
    1 lemon (grater)
    100 ml olive oil (crucial to have very good pure (not mixed crap) quality as it will conclude the taste)
    ½ teaspoon chili flakes
    pepper and salt
    Just mix this all in a smoothie mixer. Voilà. For on bread or toast.

    At 72 and a former type 11 diabetic I can say with authority that sugar is so addicting and powerful. For example, if I have sugar in an afternoon I know beyond a doubt I WILL want sugar the next day. This addiction is real and should be managed. However, if I fight the craving for 24 hours, the craving dramatically get easier to control.

    Simple tip: As much as possible don’t buy food in packages. Make your own salad dressing using olive oil. Make your own tomato sauce using fresh tomatoes with salt, oregano and other spices. Buy single ingredient foods.

    There are SOOOOOOOOOOO many different rules! I mean seriously! I’ve done MANY MANY diets! At 71 I’m experiencing the Carnivore KETO and the various variations. I feel like my brain is going to explode! 🤯. WHO’S right?! I’ve swapped out my kitchen many times. I eat NO PROCESSED FOODS. I wore the Libre glucose monitor, for 5 months. I developed a rash with every switch then eventually a dull pain traveled down my arm that exists to this day. Let me add when doing every diet my blood sugars and Ha1c were bad UNTIL I did a90 day carnivore diet. I’ve had amazing results until I PLATEAUED. At 71 years old my story is long. I’ve followed Dr Hyman from his first book. I’ve watched him evolve over the years, bought a couple of his books over the years …………….science keep’s evolving, I’M AT A LOSS! So many rules, eat this first after your salad yadda yadda yadda! What the heck? That’s a genuine question. This carnivore keto etc I’ve been doing since the end if January……my blood sugars have cone down to 100 and sometimes lower, my Ha1c has come down to 5.5 from a year and a half ago of 8.1. But everything stopped in the very beginning of June. I’m now gaining and loosing the same 4 pounds doing the same thing I’d been doing. I’m pretty sure, after ALL of these years of personally studying FOOD/HEALTH, I’m finally going to be able to witness what I’ve been hoping for, the transformation of repairing both of those systems in our country. I have beautiful grandsons in their 20’s who are always rolling their eyes at me when on a rare occasion I might mention something they shouldn’t eat! NOW they are going to hear it from professionals like YOU, and now many more, and I’m pretty sure they will think back on me and maybe once in awhile say, “hey, grandma used to say that”!     I found ProLon soups caused high sugar spikes until I began eating them over a longer period of time. So instead of eating the entire bowl at one sitting, I ate about 1/4 cup at a time over a period of about an hour, which avoided a sugar spike.

    37:11 I have a continuous inflammatory bio marker monitor. My nose and my prostate. They tell me how much inflammation my body has. Start with a keto elimination diet, add in foods, see what causes inflammation (nasal congestion, nocturia, etc.)

    For the average person this isn't that hard to understand, it is hard to start a program that works because breaking habits and food addictions is what has to be controlled from the start. Drink only 4-6 glasses of water and your favorite tea. Eat only foods listed in the paleo diet for at least 6 months. Totally eliminate all alcohol and human processed foods. Limit eating out to 1 time per week and move your body for at least 30 minutes per day. Totally eliminate sweets and find a new hobby if you love to cook for holidays and such. Monitor blood sugar daily (for a while) to make sure your sugar levels is 100 or less upon waking in the morning. Investigate limited and long term water only fasting, it will extend you life for sure.

    Levels expensive....I manually check my blood sugar with a One Touch at Walmart for 30 bucks.....poor mans Levels! Once you do it you can design a diet for yourself! ❤

The goal for me was a morning fasting blood sugar under 90 and then two hours after meals the goal was under 120. Not sure if it’s the same for normal people.

    I have questions…
    Why is our body’s insulin response being used as the criteria for determining whether a food is “good” for us or “bad” for us?
    What if we did the same with our heart rate and determined that spiking our heart rate needs to be avoided? What if we determined that maintaining a consistent heart rate over our lives is the overall goal when trying to optimize health and longevity? If we did this, exercise would be demonized - to our detriment.
    It’s curious to me, as there are many people living the “starch solution” way of life who are thriving metabolically due to making that shift.
    My questions would then be: Is it possible that potatoes, rice, beans etc are being eaten in a way (perhaps in combination with non-starchy veggies) that does not spike their insulin as much? Or, do they have a unique gut microbiome that reduces their insulin response after eating these high levels of carbohydrates? Or, is their insulin spiking like anyone else’s would - and perhaps this insulin spike is not the “canary in the coal mine” that we are being led to believe?
    So many questions…
    For me, I will focus on eating the food that God made… (and eating very minimal processed foods, ideally) And having a right relationship with food. (Not using food as therapy or having food as an idol in my life.)

      Very intelligent, well-expessed questions. All the food discussions and opinions also make me wonder what experts will be saying in 20 years. It might be radically different. The processed food trend does seem like it would lead us down the wrong path since it is such a new (relative to history) practice. I think of the Proverb that says, "If you find honey, eat just enough of it; too much, and you will become sick." Many of us have overloaded sugar and carbs, and even worse, unnatural ones. Moderation, natural foods, and figuring out what your own body does well with seem to be really important. I hope to continue down those paths.

      Insulin is a hormone, unlike your heart, which is a muscle. Muscles need to be worked out. If you’re a man, you want a consistent testosterone level that does not go up or down. testosterone is a hormone. Insulin is a hormone. You want your hormones consistent.

      Also cancer hospitals! I was BLOWN AWAY by the menu options where my brother was being treated for cancer which is claimed to be one of the top cancer centers in the nation. ALL processed foods! And bowls of free candy everywhere in the lobbies. That’s when I had my first “aha” moment of the “keep them sick and coming” theories.

      I was a diet aide for a week in one in Los Angeles, as a dietetics student, and it grossed me out. Everything was in cans !!! The grapefruit juice / cranberry was made from a can or powder and mixed with water. The other workers asked if I wanted to eat and after trying it once I was like NOO how

    High volatile organic compounds in my home’s air is what made me sick with restless muscles, no sleep, and anxiety. I use a ventilating dehumidifier to bring in fresh air to my home 24/7 and my problems went away. Foods subtly change how I feel, but I never ate super bad. I’m getting ready to take Metabolomix+ to see what else I can do!

    A little surprised they were so surprised on some of these foods. Simply read an energy bar label and they are full of sugar. It has been known for years that corn, carrots etc.. are high glycemic foods. I could go on but much is common sense. Still… very happy this is in the conversation because people aren’t getting it. We need to be a broken record until it all becomes more mainstream. The big challenge? These food companies just keep switching their marketing to brainwash people into thinking their food is healthy.

      I have the same issue with my insurance. They only cover western med doctors who have zero treatment for my brain injury. NONE of the doctors who treat brain injury are covered by insurance. It appears that big pharma controls not only western med as we all know, but insurance as well!

      @@kellydoyle I had traumatic brain injury. 3 years later with no help from neurologist or concussion clinic I found an eye doctor who did traumatic brain injury therapy and healed my brain. Insurance covered it. 9 months of therapy though.

    Dr. Hyman, thanks for being a calm, rational, reasoned, flexible voice in the nutrition wars. I was a believer in the Mediterranean diet, but I wasn't as successful as I should have because of too much added sugar and flour. After listening to many experts, some seen here, I decided to try Keto. It's okay, but there are still experts who have very good arguments that too much red meat and saturated fat, and fat in general, are not complimentary to heart health. So, I'm headed back to the Mediterranean diet or what someone called the "Pegan" diet.

      I wallow in the area of carnivore, but stay tuned into what my body tells me I need beyond that. Sometimes I eat a boatload of veggies just because my body needs whatever is in those veggies. I am not on a diet plan other than to listen to what my body suggests to feed it. As for what the "experts" claim... hahaha... I doubt that they know anything beyond some antidotal evidence.

      I started watching Fat Fiction and the first face I saw was Gary Taubes. I shut it off because I knew exactly what to expect. I read his “The Case Against Sugar,” some years ago. Brilliant book, but I can’t trust a writer (Taubes is not a scientist or doctor) who refuses to change his views based on the evidence. He raised $40 million and started an institute to put the ultimate seal of approval on high fat and keto. When his scientists failed to prove all the magical effects of keto, rather than publish the findings which were contrary to the theories he made his career spreading, he shut down the institute.
      Over the two months since I left that comment, I have continued to dig for research. While keto, as well as all sorts of other diets, can achieve short-term goals including weight loss and improved metabolic function, there is a vast mountain of evidence that high-fat, high-animal protein, high-cholesterol, high-saturated fat diets are responsible for cardiovascular disease, arteriosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, and increased all-cause mortality. Keto, carnivore, paleo diets and the like will give you short-term benefits, but at the expense of longevity. As a heart patient myself, it would be irresponsible of me to continue pursuing a high-fat diet when there is ongoing, overwhelming evidence to its risks. I have adopted a healthy, high-carb, whole-food, Mediterranean-style diet and my weight loss, which had stalled on keto, began again. The keto constipation went away with increased fiber which has undoubtedly increased my micro biome health, and the insomnia which began with keto, went away almost immediately when I dumped keto.

    In the 80s-early 90s, my mother worked at a Y&S candy factory and she brought home bags, boxes and canisters of Twizzlers every week! I gave them to friends and snacked on Twizzlers while watching TV. I was skinny at HS graduation, but internally, I was probably pretty messed up.

    I hold a very strict sugar restriction for my children. They are 6 and 8 years old.
    They are exposed to sugar everywhere, especially at school. Instead of forcing the teachers to control my children's eating habits (asking them not to offer certain candy/snacks), I hold my children accountable for their own eating habits. I strongly believe that teaching children early on to make good decisions will result in a lifetime of rewards for them, and us as parents.
    I also purchase healthier snack options for my child's entire classroom.
    My hearts breaks my children share with me some of the foods the children are eating at school, and drinking! Chocolate milk / strawberry milk? Why?????

I used to drink the banana almond milk but the oxalates in the almonds and cashews cause even more pain and inflammation! Almonds and spinach are terrible, I had no idea

    Such good info..May I mention that the LEVEL to track glucose is $400.00 a month while this data would be amazing and I'm sure a HUGE help to many..that price tag is really steap..I would love to know the real data for myself bit could never swing any of these price tags..sooo that is a bummer..I beleive I'm doing what is best..but now I question because we are so different! I also researched Inside Tracker and that is $589 for a blood analysis....so its a big bill to swallow! So I guess 🤷 don't eat sugar, salt, oil, processed foods, soda..eat fresh vegetables, fruit, and lean proteins..reduce alcohol and coffee..NEVER have skittles hahah..eat tons of greens fresh and cooked!..I love Dr Mark for always bringing the new tech on food to us..I hope someday these new food tech hacks can be accessible to those who really need the data!!!

    no one really knows what nutrition is best and i think as individuals everyone is different. I do know that processed foods in general are terrible for you. Eat as much natural food as possible. Forget the rest. Its just overpackaged over marketed garbage.

    I’m binge watching lots of Dr Means’ videos and love the information. About 3 months ago I had started to get back on the wagon with better eating habits and have lost about 10 lbs. but of course I know I’m still eating too much of the wrong things. But will try to be better. One of the things I think I’ll find hard, though, is eating in a certain order. Like when she gave the example and said save the mashed potatoes until the end. I like to take a bite of all of the different foods on my plate. My husband and kids eat one food at a time and it makes me crazy because I think it’s so wierd that you wouldn’t want to have those different flavors together!!! So I just don’t know if I’ll be able to incorporate that one. ;)

    Cooked lentils have 18 grams of fiber per cup compared to 3 tbs of chia seeds which has 15 grams. Black beans have 15 grams per cup also.

    Went on guided diet with functional medicine practitioner. Meat , veggies , fruits , coconut oil and olive oil. No wheat , corn , potatoes , low carb.
    Loosing weight and visceral fat down , sugar normal with out meds.
    Stopped BP meds too and monitoring. Still low.
    So dropped three meds.
    Now how to get off stations.
    Testing proved inflammation , possible leaky gut, and antibodies against thyroid.
    So sticking with it till body heals. Adding fermented fiber for biome

    So informative. Interestingly our dentist said to drink your coke quickly because of the damage to your teeth (to my kids that is) but you say to drink it slowly.l to minimise insulin spikes I think it should be a complete ‘no’ drink!

    My husband has high A1C so doctor put him on metformin. (He is maybe 20 lbs overweight but otherwise very healthy, with perfect bp.) There was no discussion or recommendation for diet changes from his doctor.

    I agree with most of what you’re saying but the blood glucose monitor is another gimmick to distract you from knowing your own body. Our reliance on healthcare’ (deliberately in inverted commas because it’s not care), so called medical experts, prescription drugs, highly processed foods etc has meant that we’ve given away all of our power and responsibility to know our own bodies. I have struggled all my life with blood sugar issues and discovered during keto that if I don’t put the sugar in, I don’t get ‘the sugar shakes’. I also know that if I eat a breakfast of toast or cereal, I will get hypoglycaemic within 30 minutes. I know that if I eat a piece of cake - good homemade cake - in the morning, that my heart rate increases massively and it takes a good hour or so to completely normalise. But if I eat that same piece of cake after a light lunch or dinner, I have no rapid heart rate. I’m 59 and not on any meds at all. I know my body because I listen to and watch what it’s telling me. Why are we always looking to cheat, to find the way of least resistance? Just look around and see where it’s got us. We need to change our mindset and stop relying, then blaming something for the state we’re in. We know the processed food is bad; stop eating it. We know a walk outside has so many benefits in blowing the cobwebs away, moving the lymph in our bodies so we’re not like a stagnant pond, strengthening our muscles, pumping that oxygenised blood around our bodies and not forgetting the manufacture of Vit D which keeps our immune systems strong. Take back your power today!!! You can do this!!
