      We appreciate the kind words. We try to keep the family bickering to a minimum on the videos - Lol. But we do enjoy our time together as a family. Thanks for watching our videos and taking the time to leave a comment!

    Wow. What a glorious view and hike. Pretty impressive given the length of hike and altitude gain. Was at Yosemite a few years back. Almost wish we had gone to Kings Canyon instead as crowds might have been less. Really enjoy your nature along with food reviews. What part of the country is home? You definitely do some fun traveling.

      Thanks for your comments. We call Western North Carolina home - and are blessed with the many outdoor opportunities within a few hours drive. But, obviously, we enjoy traveling further, too. Although we loved Kings Canyon Mist Falls, we visited Yosemite as well. More people, no doubt, but we were able to escape most of the crowds on our hike down from Glacier Point to Yosemite Valley via the Panorama and Mist Trails. Truly epic! I am working on a video for this one.

    Wow! How much time did it take for the hike and back? Planning to go late August, will there be water in the fall then, do you know?

    • @criscale3667
      @criscale3667  3 года назад +1

      It took us 4:35 to hike 10 miles (out and back). I have included a link to our alltrails actvity that provides overall stats and path. It is my understanding that the falls flow year round, so I would still expect an impressive waterfall in late August. It will likely be hot, so please be prepared by brining lots of water. There is a place at the trailhead to fill up. I hope you have fun!

      As a local to this area, please let me add my two cents: The South Fork Kings River never goes completely dry, so the falls will be flowing year-round. They are at their peak flow generally in May and early June, but unfortunately that tends to be when the mosquitoes are worst. If you go in late July, August, or September, the falls will still be there (with lower flow), but the mosquitoes will generally be much less of a problem. (In September, the mosquitoes are virtually non-existent-but you should bring repellent no matter when you go.)

      @@trwent Thanks for the info! I plan to visit in early April. Would it be cold that I need to bring winter clothes? I guess no mosquito early April?

    • @trwent
      @trwent Год назад +1

      @Helen H That is pretty early. This year, with the wet winter we have had so far, the road in there might not even be open until May. In any event, I would expect the river to be really high in late April through at least mid- to late-June this year, if not later, depending upon how much more snow falls in the back country in this next series of storms and in March, and also how hot it gets in April and May which will determine how fast the snow melts. Above the junction with the Bubbs Creek trail, on the way to Mist Falls, there there is a mile-long section of the trail that passes through meadows, which could be fairly muddy in early season, particularly this year. If I were you, I would wear a pair of fairly heavy-duty hiking boots and bring two good trekking poles. As far as the mosquitoes go, I have never been up there before June, but I would recommend bringing plenty of repellent and possibly a headnet as well. Enjoy!! 😊

      @@trwent I have a conference in S CA ending in beginning of April. I decided to visit these two NPs and Joshua Tree after the conference. I know it is not the ideal season to visit but I will see what happens then. I understand that roads would not be fully open then. I hope I can see at least parts of the NPs. Thank you for all the info and I will get prepared!

    Approximately how long did it take to complete this hike?

    The "best hike" was a bit of a reach...as beautiful as it is I'm not sure it's even the best hike from that trail head...the sierra high route starts north from that same spot. From there I think you could argue that you hiked in one of the most beautiful places on earth....some might say they've seen just as pretty but no one can say they've been to a better spot...the best part of California by far

    • @criscale3667

      That looks wonderful! Thanks for the tip. If one is looking for a great day hike, would heading up Copper Creek Trail give you a taste for what the sierra high route has to offer?

      I would say that Mist Falls is the best CAR-ACCESSIBLE one-day hike in Kings Canyon that does not require a huge amount of exertion.
