I thought I knew how to tackle this job until I saw the video, saved me about two hours! Helpful hint: as long as the front panel is off, this is a good time to stick a vacuum cleaner hose in there and clean out accumulated dust and lint. My old dryer was a gas model and the flame started a small, smoldering fire. Also, treasure hunting. Bobby pins, paper clips, coins, jewelry...and just do an overall internal inspection.
Please note that if you have an Amana model# NDE5800AYW, the putty knife method will not work to release the top. In addition to the spring clips, there are screws holding the top too. You will have to start by removing the two screws located in the bottom corners of the front of the dryer. You can then remove the front of the dryer and get access to the screws that hold the top. I discovered this after many failed attempts using the putty knife method.
Oh, hey, yeah, I had that same problem! PIA!!!!!! But, I still don't understand the right order of taking apart, putting together. I've got the bottom two screens on the bottom plate, like you suggest. But, you can't remove the bottom plate because the upper part of the bottom plate is held in by the middle door assembly. But you can't remove the middle door assembly because it is held in by the top and the bottom!!! WHAT???? I can't for the life of me figure it out and I've taken it apart. So, how did I actually get it apart? I used a pry bar and bent it enough to get a wrench in to unbolt it. Then struggled mightily to put it back together and left off screws that pissed me off.
The video titled Amana Dryer Super Capacity door and top lid removal at ruclips.net/video/O05qCqhz7Z8/видео.html shows the steps you mentioned. It helped me take the top off.
Thank you for this video. This enabled me to get my belt replaced. My dryer model was slightly different but it was close enough that I was able to get the job done. Really appreciate this!
Very true, however, I can about guarantee this guy has done his time like that. He earned the right to be in a well lit room with a brand new clean appliance on a riser lol
I think I'll remove the drum and vacuum it out plus probably not a bad idea to replace the idler pulley as well. Not sure how long those are supposed to last?? Kinda like replacing the tension-er when replacing a serpentine belt on you car. Excellent video. Thank You.
My idler wheel or pulley was laying loose on the bottom of dryer and I coiuld not figure out how to get a good look under there to get it fixed. I don't think the belt is bad, just that it came loose or got unhooked. This video helped me see that I need to take the front of the dryer apart but I could not see what you were doing down inside there on the bottom.
This video implies ALL Amana dryers can be at least disassembled using the putty knife method. This is not the case. Mine and many other Amana dryer models require two bottom screws be removed, then the front panel gets dropped down, the top clips just hold the front panel in place. There are interior screws holding the top which are impossible to remove without a special tool. Luckily with these models all mechanical and burner service work can be done from the front, no reason to remove the top.
If you have an old Amana LGA50AW, you cannot open the top first! I spent a good 15 minutes trying release the spring clips... thinking something was wedged or rusted. You need to start at the bottom by first removing the bottom cover (below the door, two 5/16 hex screws) and then you can lift up (and out) the front panel while paying attention to the door latch wire harness. From this point you'll easily see how to loosen the top / lid piece, the front bulkhead, etc. Best wishes. Hope this helps.
When I push on the latches it does not appear to be popping up. It appears to be attached to the side plate somehow. Do you have any tips or a more relevant video? I have an old Amana LEA50AW.
Mine wouldn't open either. I had to take the bottom front panel off then the panel with the door in it. Before removing the door panel completely unplug the door switch. Then lift the top.
I have an Amana dryer that is roughly 25 years old and has just now begun to make a squeaking noise. Pretty sure the belt is in need of replacement. Will this repair apply to a machine as old as ours? It doesn’t appear much different structurally than the one you’re working on.
I think it is just so nice of you to take the time to make this video for us to use. Thank you.

On some Amana models, Beware of sharp edges WEAR gloves when lifting up on front panel.
Video was very helpful.
Yes! I learned the hard way. Sliced in between my thumb 😣

Don't know what model # I have but I will try this method. Hope it works.
Thank you! I was able to change the belt on my dryer myself because of your video

You are a fantastic teacher. Clear, concise and articulate. Thank you.
Excellent video. I was able to fix my dryer. This really helped. Thank you.
Great instructional video & exceptional instructor!
Excellent video. Now do it in a nasty old dank basement with poor lighting and it'll be more realistic.
TomKaren94 with your wife saying "you sure you needed to take it all apart like that"
@@whitegoosejuvy About 6 minutes into it my wife was saying “aren’t you done yet, why is it taking so long?”

If the putty knife doesn't work, read ColoradoMaco's post below...saved me a heartache
Thank you.

Very helpful video. Thanks!

Thank you so much
My problem wasn't the belt, I had a cherry seed stuck where the drum rests by the door
Should the shaft of the idler have play(movement) I can wiggle mine eventhough the nut and bolt are tight?

You will need to remove the lower access panel and the front panel before you can access the two screws that hold the top in place.
will you come to my house and inspect mine. what if I use it. anyway?
My top won't open! Does anyone know why?
Mine wouldn't open either. I had to take the bottom front panel off then the panel with the door in it. Before removing the door panel completely unplug the door switch. Then lift the top.

My amana dryer has a lower kick panel on it. And my top doesn't swing up??? It heats and drum spins but legs with weight of clothes. HELP PLEASE.
Same with mine. There seems to be something more than just the spring clips holding the top in place, yet there's nothing on the exterior.

Hi
Hello, how can I help you?
This is total bs
The belt installation instructions were abhorrent
Terrible explanation of the belt install. Save your self a ton of time and just look at the diagram.
