Awww.. what a lovely song. Certainly pulled some heartstrings there. 🥰💝❤
We loved her and we always will x
Loved this video. I sailed on her so many times crossing the Mersey, and even up to New Brighton which was a great sail.. It's a shame she ended up on a mud bank in the River Thames. Nice to have this memory . Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it.....thanks for the nice comment
I saw The Royal Iris a few months back, partly submerged on the banks of the Thames in London, and wondered about its history. So sad to see it in it,s current state, too far gone for restoration. I would imagine the costs involved to overhaul it would be prohibitive.
Great to see it while still in service, albeit it's last day, in Liverpool. I can see why it held a special place in the heart of Liverpudlians.
Yes but Hey its Living History !! And what Beatles History!! PLEASE Dear God Somebody come forward and save it!! So its costs money and time to restore! It will be worth it I';m crying with all we have lost pulled down etc in the Uk!!! If i had the money i'd do it!!! X
A nice tribute, thank you. We (Caravan Club) used to hire her once a year for a Saturday night cruise party. Was in London yesterday and cycled from Greenwich along the Thames Path to see her - she is in a very sad state indeed. Got rather emotional !
How I wish I could've gone on this ferry.
I never heard about before but it breaks my heart when things/people are not taken care of. I don't like to see that scrapping stuff either💔
Thanks for the lovely vid about this stunning piece of history. I'm from wallasey, & had many great rides on the ferrys. Breaks my heart to see this one left to rot. She should at least be lifted out the water and brought back home to the Mersey, ( but on dry land) .
I'm sure I've seen this in the wallasey docks in the last 10 years on re vistiting. Must have seen the ghost ship of her. My family ( my uncle & Grandad have links to this old beauty, as they've been on her & my Grandad worked on the ferries at some point. He was also a life guard at the Guinea gap baths. Can't remember in which order tho that my uncle told me. They was there when Gerry & the pace makers did their ferry cross the mersey stuff.
I miss the Wirral, the docks & ferries. Must go back this year & visit my old favourite haunts. 🥰❤💝
I worked on her wen she was criuse boat for mpte great memories of this charming boat ❤️
Watching that video brought a tear to my eye, thinking back to the many happy memories.
Me too mate
forgot how many times I sailed on this beauty, so sad it can't be brought back from being derelict in London.
The current state of her in London is upsetting. This is great video though Don.. Best wishes to you.
cheers Pete
in the late 50s n early 60s they had partys on it i remember we lived on wilson road wallessey
Great vid.thanx
I saw the coronation on her in 1953, love to see her preserved
I fear that will be unlikely. I found out about the ferry from the more recent video by Jaggo Hazzard about its story, attempts of being brought back and current state of affairs. It seems too far gone in its state of disrepair, likely the costs of bringing it back would be too great for anyone to take such investment.
You old romantic, Don. Love it!
"Well, that was me, Royal Iris, on the River Mersey with the band,...that was me! (Memory almost full, "That was me" - Paul McCartney)

Bring her home

Met my first girlfriend on the Iris
Why did Mersey Ferries abandon her
